Teen Gohan and Future Trunks

Post by vegetaslegacy15 » Mon Jun 18, 2012 12:56 am

Do you think Future Trunks felt any attachment at all to cell arc Gohan at all? Since in his timeline Gohan is his mentor. Furthermore do you think he was surprised that Teen Gohan was so powerful and became a SSj2 since his Gohan never did?

I don't think he did. Maybe a little. It just wasn't the same Gohan he loved and knew.

This is one of those instances where I really wish the author had put more thought into his characters. Even if it wasn't the same Gohan he knew,it was still Gohan . Meeting a person you cared for deeply, even if that person is different, should make an emotional impact that's worth at least a mention. Yet in the manga I don't really remember any moment of significance between them. They spend some time together, but I think that's it. I don't remember if the anime added something or not regarding these two.

It's just what the American video games called him for convenience, which has been ingrained into many of the English-speaking fandom.

None. The only moment I can remember between the two is when they're flying towards the Western 1050 District. Trunks was basically talking about his future and how bad it was. I do believe he was surprised at how powerful Gohan had become, since he was also amazed at Goku's change in power.

I think the time when Trunks and Gohan were looking for the abandoned time machine was a missed opportunity since their roles were reversed and Trunks was in the leader position much like how future Gohan was for him.

I also think it would of been cool if Trunks was concious when Gohan used the one armed Kamehameha against Cell because that would most definitely remind him of future Gohan.

I agree as there could have been more emphasis on their relationship, would be interesting to see Trunk's perspective of it too.

I fail to see the point, they're entirely different people and it would actually be kind of creepy on Trunks' part. :P

Gohan asking Trunks about his future self.

*Cue 'The History of Trunks' "

Or what about Trunks running and jumping in-front of Gohan, thinking about not losing him again and taking the Death Beam head-on instead of being caught off guard?

What exactly would be creepy? It's kind of unatural not to feel any sort of attachement to the younger version of the person who meant so much to him. I'm not saying they should bond or anything, but it deserved a little more attention than it got IMO.

I sorta wish Kai added Trunks telling Gohan about Mirai Gohan's death on the way to the abandon time machine with a clip of Gohan's death in History of Trunks. Sorta like how Kai's prologue showed part of the Bardock special. It would've been nice.

I do not see how Trunks would want to burden his young master with information of his death so that part I think would be better left out.

I do think Trunks shows a considerable amount of compassion for Gohan given we are talking about a story written about Akira Toriyama here. There is the moment in the early Cell arc where Trunks heads out to persue Cell (or the Andriods) and Gohan insists on accompaning Trunks and Trunks showing care and consideration for the young master tells Gohan to stay put.

There is the moment in History of Trunks where Mirai Gohan and Trunks head to fight the Andriods, they do agree to band together at first then then Gohan knocks out Trunks and says 'Sorry Trunks this is my battle, maybe you will understand some day'. Gohan does this out of his own will to protect his pupil so maybe Trunks telling Gohan stay put at Roshi's is Trunks having an understanding of what Mirai Gohan meant. He feels that Gohan is not yet ready to face this threat the same way, Trunks was not ready battle against the Andriods yet.

Well, Trunks did tell Gokuu that everyone, including his mentor Gohan, would be killed against the Androids, and we see in the RoSaT that Gohan knows he's a Super Saiyan in the future but still dies anyway. So how would it be any more of a (necessary) burden that what it already was?

Bare in mind that Mirai Trunks did not actually see Mirai Gohan die so Mirai Trunks could not possibly mention his death to young Gohan ethier way in terms of how the events unfolded. I do admit though that would make damn good introduction to Dragon Ball Z: History of Trunks.

Can you imagine Trunks just telling Gohan he's going to die? "Hey Gohan, you're gonna die..." Gohan would freak out.

Not only that, but a scene like Trunks telling Gohan about how he died probably did happen, but off screen. While in the RoSaT, when Goku tells Gohan about wanting to have him become a ssj, Gohan says that Trunks told him how he was ssj in his time line, but still got killed by the androids.

Yea , Toriyama seems to do that a lot. Something is said that wouldn't necessarily get around to other characters yet somehow everyone is brought up to speed.

I agree with the majority that their could have been more Trunks / Gohan stuff, they seemed to focus more on Trunks / Vegeta, which is just more character development for Vegeta, and I could see why they did that. Vegeta had his rare I have a heart moment he has in every saga.

Maybe it's just a dub line, but I kinda hated how at Roshi's when Gohan asked to go with Trunks, his reply was, "Sorry kid, I'm going alone [sic]" You'd think he would be kind of in awe of his mentor and a little more respectful.
