New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
In summer 2013, to celebrate 20th anniversary of Sailor Moon, new anime will start, it will follow manga closely, and animation will be completely new, not redrawn, as for return voices, so far, Ms. Kotono Mitsuishi and Mr. Toru Furuya confirmed, that they will reprise their roles, as Usagi and Mamoru.
Seeing, how Toei created for Saint Seiya and Sailor Moon true sequels/remakes, it make me really sad, that it was Kai, who got so screwed
Granted, unlike Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon anime was very different from manga, but still, Kai at least deserved a fully new animation, not just partly redrawn scenes, and poorly cut filler and manga scenes

Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
dragon ball (from begining to end of cell) should have got a full remake but not a sequel cause after cell the story fell a part so ending kai after cell was the right thing to do
Q- did akira toryama have anything to do with kai ?

Kai was such a guinea pig. This is why I can't love Kai unlike Z.

Yeah... I felt the same way. I feel like Toei's screwing around with Dragonball fans with all this new Saint Seiya and Sailor moon stuff, and even Hokuto no Ken.
Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
No, the Boo saga should have been covered also as it was part of the original manga.sintzu wrote:dragon ball (from begining to end of cell) should have got a full remake but not a sequel cause after cell the story fell a part so ending kai after cell was the right thing to do
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!
Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
Was it confirmed that it's going to be animated by Toei? I'm a bit jealouse, but I have been one the people that were glad that Kai didn't get new animation, because current day Toei series are not well animated imo. I've tried a a few minutes of that Pretty Cure stuff that was said to be DBZ with magical girls and seems to be incredibly popular, but I've seen nothing impressive. Same with this new Saint Seiya anime.

Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
Well, the Sailor Moon anime never really followed the manga in the same way that Dragon Ball did. Anything they did to do so, would have to be from the ground up.
This is pretty cool news, since I'm working on getting the Shinsoban edition of the manga
Relating to Dragon Ball Kai? It proved that they can't pull that crap and that people want new stuff. That should've been obvious, and Dragon Ball took an unnecessary hit.

Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
Reviving DBK now would be an awful idea since Toei Animation didn't give much thought of it originally, as the animation was somewhat bad + inconsistent and the music replacement was far too repetitive and unfitting.
So if Toei Animation were to do anything about Dragon Ball, then anything than Kai.
I'd definitely like to see Dragon Ball SD anime version!

I can't speak for the quality of the series and characters, but Pretty Cure is highly regarded for its animation, which does make great use of complex animation and choreography.Michsi wrote:Was it confirmed that it's going to be animated by Toei? Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
I know it's highly regarded for it's fights, which to me was unusual for this genre and it was why I decided to give it a try. I went straight for what were considered the best fights and I was still not particulary impressed . Hironori Tanaka is one of the few animators that I know about and I think he is doing fantastic work, but even with animators like him at the steering wheel, you still get a different animation quality depending on the studio. For instance, look at the difference between, for example, studio Bones (FMA) and Pretty Cure. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but it's not amoung the best. And even if there are good fight scenes in there, if they are too few and far between, I can't say it's a well animated series. If they decided to reanimate Kai in such a fashion, with say, only the Goku vs.Freeza fight and the Cell vs. Gohan fight done well and rest kept subpar, then I'd rather have the old one. Also, I'm not too fond of Toei's current color scheme and the style they draw DB in eitherJulieYBM wrote:[

Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
I was fairly satisfied with Kai, at least with its better pacing and improved English dub version, though I wish they had gone full tilt and reanimated it, or at least done the Buu arc.
But I remain jealous that they're completely reanimating Sailor Moon. Still, it's Toei, so Sailor Moon fans shouldn't expect much.

Does it still count as REanimating, when there was never a proper complete adaptation of the manga?penguintruth wrote:But I remain jealous that they're completely reanimating Sailor Moon. Still, it's Toei, so Sailor Moon fans shouldn't expect much.
This is looking like the age where everything is taking out of the archives lol. New Saint Seiya, New Sailor Moon, New Great Teacher Onizuka J-Drama, New Kenshin animated features, Kenshin live action movie.....God damn!

Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
But that's just it; if we go back to the very beginning with Toei's plans regarding Kai that us on this site are blessed with means of hearing via the podcast, their basic realization was "Our catalog is huge, many of our properties are still beloved, and anime's in a place right now where these old greats wouldn't be out of place. Let's reboot shit!"Rukura wrote:This is looking like the age where everything is taking out of the archives lol. But new Sailor Moon, hmm, (EDIT) perhaps the Funi license might get some use now. I've a friend or two that will want to hear this.

Ten seconds in and I'm seeing blurry splotch super spin movement. People have been making gifs about how (hilariously) stupid that looks for years; I remember one of Naruto's pain running across lake and slowing arching his back until his legs basically became Sonic's infinite loop.

Kai turned out better than some of the above mentioned on American shores though, since it actually was available here. Heck, unlike Sailor Moon and Saint Saiya, we got all of DB/Z/GT here. And some guys say the reason the Gurren Lagann dub had better ratings on Sci-Fi Channel than it did in Japan is because Pretty Cure doesn't air in America.

Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
Supposedly there are some major legal issues with "Sailor Moon" license over here in North America, which is why we haven't seen a redub yet. I'm hopeful, though. The rumor is that FUNimation has been after that show for years, and they've said before in interviews that they'd love to get it.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Oh yeah. Have an idea on who I can see being cast if they recast as well. (There's a debate on while guys would want a redub, on whether or not to keep some elements from the old dub as well as guys wanting some of the old cast back).

Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
Didn't Sailor Moon start in 1992? Or am I just remembering wrong? I'm pretty happy that the show is being re-done, and this time hopefully more faithful to the manga (especially the last two arcs, they really deviate from the manga...) If a re-dub happens, I wouldn't mind seeing the voice actors from the DiC dub or Cloverway dub (although some VAs were around for both) I just want a complete re-dub, from the ground up, no dub-added elements from the dubs of the original.
@TheBlackPaladin I've heard that Toei is refusing to give the license to the show to anyone, and it's been this way for a while, but I have no idea how much truth there is to it.

I'm happy they're keeping Tohru Furuya on for the new Sailor Moon. When I watched it the first time, I had no idea he also played Yamcha. So yes, Tuxedo Yamcha. X3
I've also got a small theory the new Sailor Moon is going to replace Pretty Cure, if only because:
1)if they were to have two ongoing magical girl shows wouldn't they be competing against themselves?
2)if I remember correctly, wasn't Sailor Moon replaced by Cutey Honey Flash replaced by Doremi replaced by Pretty Cure?
The only strike against my theory is Sailor Moon is supposed to start in the summer. Pretty Cure always starts in late-January/early-February and goes for a full year.

The way I heard it, was that they were doing that unless some company gave them a very big amount of money. (Japanese animation companies are greedy too). That or they want a definate tv thing.Eight-Star Dragon wrote:@TheBlackPaladin I've heard that Toei is refusing to give the license to the show to anyone, and it's been this way for a while, but I have no idea how much truth there is to it.
