Dragon Ball Guide Book for class

Hey guys, I go to a graphic design school in San Antonio Texas, and my Print Production class gave us 10 weeks (the whole semester) to group up and create a 60-page Book full of inserts, postcards, pullouts, etc. and the group I was with made a Dragon Ball guidebook labeled "Dragon Ball: The Z Guide"!

- The Book itself came out to be about 120 pages total
- Most of the artwork featured is either original art, or a rendition of previous artwork redone by us.
- The screen caps for the Bio's section were taken from the Dragon Boxes to ensure high quality.
- Character names are kept closest to their Japanese spellings (a few exceptions like "Krillin, Master Roshi, etc.)

*Please keep in mind that this was a group project that mostly teaches us to cooperate with one another to meet a deadline, so the finished product might reflect some of the rush.

Also (and most importantly), there were 6 people total in our group, and only 2 of us were actually knowledgable about the franchise from Day 1; myself being one, while the other person's knowledge extended only to the FUNimation dub of the TV anime. Another words, it was a daunting task for myself especially to not only to collaborate ideas as a group for this project, but also informing them about the series in general! Granted, the other knowledgeable group member was still a major help when it came to characters and story events

With that in mind, I hope you can appreciate the hard work we all put into it at least! It was certainly a dream project of mine to actually be a part of a Dragon Ball related project, even if it was only for that class. My fellow group members (most of which knew zero about the franchise initially) have learned quite a bit about the series those 10 weeks; one of which even watches TFS's Dragonball Z: Abridged now. Even if they didn't quite understand the series fully, I noticed that they all found something to appreciate about Toriyama's greatest achievement. I hope you enjoy our project at the very least!

That could be sold as a Daizenshuu! That was awesome for something that took 10 weeks. When you you were working with these people, did they reconsider watching the show in Japanese? That would be cool to get fans of the show out of this project.

Wow, thanks for that! Most of the information we used is featured in the Daizenshuu's anyways, taken from this site/forum (plus I had to change the bibliography before printing because of the merger of "Kanzenshuu"). We also ran into some information problems when the forums were down for that transition period of time ><

For my group members, I had recommended that reading the manga was the quickest way possible to know the story. I brought some manga examples with me to class as well as the Illustration Daizenshuu that we used for some scans. I'm not sure if anyone went out to read anymore of it though. I also brought my Dragonboxes with me when I was collecting screencaps, so I oftentimes I played a few japanese scenes like Vegeta vs 18, Trunks saving the future from the artificial humans, and Buu killing off that murderer by going down his throat. I basically played some select scenes from whatever disks I had in my computer at the time.

During Day 1, one of our group members told us he didn't like any "anime" or anything like it (which I explained that it really doesn't feel like how he imagines as "anime" anyways), but by the end of the project he told me that he really learned a lot from the project and was really interested by the story, namely the Goku/Vegeta rivalry since he made the mini booklet (the one that's featured at the end of the video). I had also shown Dragon Ball Z: Abridged to another one of our group members, which he watched all of it in a very short period of time.

However, my friend who owns all of the orange bricks doesn't really care to watch anything subtitled, let alone DBZ, but he does prefer the Japanese names for the attacks and some of the characters however, and he wishes that the english dub had used them.

Wow, that is really cool! I'm a bit surprised you didn't include a basic plot guide or anything like that when you incorporated the movie guide. You should try to swing this by Funimation (They have book rights for the US don't they?) and see if you can get this purchaseable.

As I mentioned before, all of the drawings (even the ones that weren't our original artwork) were modified and redrawn for the book. I know that in a prefect world where we had more than 10 weeks to dabble this project together, we would've had nothing but original artwork featured.
