That too. But heaven and hell were called the Next Dimension IIRC.

What? The Next Dimension was used as a way to cover up death, because of its sensitive nature towards children.
Let's put it this way, if someone watching DBZ doesn't know what death is, they are too young to be watching a fighting show any way.

There was a big difference in the way Funimation used 'the next dimension' beginning with season 3. Before that, they used it as a way to refer to someone dying (sending to the next dimension) or being brought back to life (bringing someone back from the next/another dimension). With season 3, they only used it to refer to someone returning to life (bringing someone back...), which isn't nearly as bad as to use that phrase to cover up death. Of course, they really shouldn't have used it at all after Saban left, especially not in something as recent as GT.

edit: needed some clarification

Well they usually just use the "Other World" as the general term for the afterlife, but it's not really meant to 'cover up' anything since they made jokes about Goku being a dead guy throughout the Buu saga.

I meant they used it to cover up death previous to season 3 (when Saban was ruling over them.) Other world is fine like you said. Now I haven't seen any of GT dubbed, but from what others here have said, I'll say they should have just kept using other world like they were before.

Actually, it was technically to cover up the fact they were dead at first. The cut episodes mention having Piccolo and the others returning from the next dimension, while the uncut mentioned them returning from the dead. o_o

GT hasn't used 'next dimension' or anything like that o_o; They even reffer to Hell as simply HELL and not "Home for Infinite Losers" even ONE time in the uncut version. That I can safely say, since I (pathetically) own the entire thing on DVD.

Right, that's what I'm referring to. They used it in the cut episodes (namely seasons 1/2), and occasionally, but not often, used it in season 3, on TV. Gradually, as they got into season 3 and onwards, they stopped saying it.

Good to hear but I wasn't the one that said GT did, someone earlier in the thread indicated this. As I haven't seen GT dubbed, I don't know.

The uncut edition is the uncut edition, though. Ever since FUNimation put out an uncut dub, there have been several dialogue differences. ^^;;; Chances are "the next dimension" was used in the editted dub.

If you're referring to the Ocean Studios dub when you say the edited dub, then yeah.

Dude, in the Super 17 saga DVDs, watch the dub version when King Yemma mentions the disturbance between the two worlds with Goku (the first cracking dragonball is shown during this conversation), and then watch when Piccolo talks to Yemma about being sent to Hell to assist Goku, both Yemma and Piccolo clearly say "Next Dimension" in those instances. I have the Uncut DVDs, I know the lines are said in the dub. Go to those spots and see for youself.

I may have mentioned this in one area or another, but in the translated Supersonic Warriors 2, right next to "Damn!" will be an instance of "... the next dimension...".

Dude, I CLEARLY remember Piccolo saying "I want you to send me to hell", and then not long after starts pretending to be Piccolo Daimao so that he'll be sent there. I even checked o_o

...wait, how did the thread end up being about this? oO

Watch the dub, right before Piccolo starts acting like Piccolo Daimao. This is from the exact dialogue from the Uncut dub on the first Super 17 saga DVD.

Goku: I've seen you bend the rules before.

King Yemma: It's not about bending the rules, there's an odd force at work between the next dimension and Earth. Quite frankly, it's something I don't understand and don't know how to get around. *the first cracking dragonball is shown*

Piccolo: Hey! King Yemma!

Yemma: Piccolo, is that you?

Piccolo: I need for you to send me to Hell.

Yemma: Are you crazy!?

Piccolo: I have an idea on how to help Goku, it's a long-shot, but it just might work.

Yemma: Sorry, you're not going anywhere.

Piccolo: You're King Yemma, the ruler of the next dimension, but you don't have the power to send me!?

King Yemma: Of course I have the power, I can do it, ect.

In that instance, it sounds more like their kind of term for "other world." Rather than using it as before to cover up death. o.o After all, where Enma is, it's pretty much another realm.
