Super rare DBZ BGM track from Rebirth of the Fusion!!

Post by songokuss3 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:36 pm

Hello all,

I need some serious assistance tracking down this piece of BGM. I must have been searching for hours yesterday on youtube but no luck, and that was not the first instance searching.

It's from the DBZ movie 12 - Rebirth of the Fusion!!, but seems to only be on the French version.
Here's the link, it can be heard at the 26:52 mark.

I remember seeing this movie as a kid in france, and when I saw the actual Japanese version, the score was completely different. Which is odd seeing as how the music in the French version seems to have been scored by Shunsuke Kikuchi also - at least it sounds similar.

I thought I would have luck finding it here - "DBZ Movie 12 Unreleased BGM Collection" but again no luck.

Is it possible to track this BGM down?

Sounds like the case of a PAL video being sped-up.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

If you slow down the sped-up version you'll probably hear the same as in the original Dragon Ball Z BGM.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wG84efH4sw listen at 4:45 so comical.

The French dub of DBZ Movie 12 seems to be using different music than the original Japanese version, although it's still Kikuchi's music. The final fusion scene and Gogeta's emergence has completely different music compared to the Japanese version. For some reason the French producers felt the need to replace the music. Interesting.

I don't know why, but they used the score from movie 13.

This is the old French VHS version by the (damned  ) AB Group, where there is a misplacement well known by the French fans! In the DVD version, the error was corrected fortunately.

It's kind of our national "It's over 9000 !".

Thank you for the Youtube link, I didn't have this track either.

What do you mean by the error?

I mean, to have reversed the BGM of the movies 12 and 13.I said "error", it may be intentional from AB.
In the DVD released a few years later, everything has its place.

There's French Touch. :)
There's AB Touch too.

The Spanish (Castilian) dub of movie 12 contains music from movies 8, 9 and 13. Not even a single track from movie 12. It's a mess. Even lots of sound effects were changed. I always thought the original music and effects tapes were damaged or something... because it has no sense!

Yes, I was actually surprised when I got the movies box on DVD and the soundtrack to movie 12 was a completely new one (it turned out that "new" track was actually the original Japanese one).

Back then, movies 12 and 13 were combined and released on theaters and VHS as a single, feature length movie. The reason behind the choice of changing the OST from movie 12 to that of movie 13 could be to have a stronger sense of coherence, since it is supposed to be one single movie, but also because the music from movie 13 is better and more cinematic for a big event like that (back then, it was a huge event for Dragon Ball fans, with such story lines, such graphics, first time that French voice actors bothered to do the screams, first time that we got to see and hear an original Japanese opening...), so given how it was considered as an event, it's not surprising that they chose to use movie 13's music for a better impact. But who knows, one of the reasons you guys mention may also be valid too, it is not uncommon to have problems of rights or damaged files in anime overseas releases.

Noteworthy, the "DVD movies" box still uses the French masters visually, the same ones than when the two movies were actually one. That means when starting movie 13, you don't have a proper opening (though I'm unfamiliar with the Japanese release, it might be normal in the end), since the opening for the movie was at the beginning of movie 12. Instead, credits are just displayed while Gohan stops the criminal, much like the beginning of a TV show.
For the theaters and VHS, the ending credits to the movies (located at the end of movie 13, there were none at the end of movie 12 since it was just "the middle of the full movie") were like that of a live-action movie (black screen with white text rolling upwards) with the same part of the theme for movie 13 being played over and over again (I think it went Intro - Verse 1 - Chorus 1 - Verse 1 - Chorus 1 - Verse 1 - Chorus 1).
