Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
So this movie is officially canon huh. Well there goes those debates.
Which also means that what ever is said in this movie that contradicts something in the manga it cant be refuted, but only go down as one of Dragon Ball's many mysteries.

It's not too late. One day, it will be.

There's no such thing as "official" canon for this series.goku the krump dancer wrote:So this movie is officially canon huh. Well there goes those debates.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
Question: was the article regarding the time frame in which the movie takes place the new information we were supposed to receive from this weeks Shonen Jump? Meaning we won't be getting anything new anytime soon?

The movie's announcement was the only real news in the issue, in addition to Toriyama's comment, which we got really early thanks to the leak.
Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
Thanks! So there is still a chance we might get some new info this week? Unless I'm mistaken, the issue from last week, the one that confirmed the movie before the countdown was finished, mentioned that the next issue would contain more information. Or am I mixing them up in my head?

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
The issue that confirmed the movie was an extremely early leak of this week's Jump. It was the teaser site that said to look for more info in the next issue of Jump, but it was talking about the same issue we already had...
Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
Aha, thanks for clearing this up.
Oh well, seems it will indeed be a while before we get something new.

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
I'm kind of excited for this movie
Looking at the picture it seems kind of obvious it will take place 1 or 2 years after Boo, otherwise Goten and Trunks would look at least a bit taller. Which I would like, I would prefer new outfits for Goten and Trunks, maybe a new haircut for Goten. Well, if I could choose I would prefer the movie to take place after the end of the manga, so Goku would have the green outfit and Pan, Bra and Oob would be there.
I wonder if they will use Vegeta's new Super Saiyan 3 form, that could lead to a Super Saiyan 3 Gogeta.

Vegeta SSJ3? I hope not
Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
If they are going to use his SS3 form, I would have preferred that it'd be in his Boo saga outfit.

Official history seems equivalent to canon to me.

Two points:hleV wrote:Official history seems equivalent to canon to me.
(1) The nature of that statement is in question. Said statement does not actually exist in the source it's been stated to appear in, and while we have reached out to what appears to be the original author(s) of the article that states it, we have not yet been able to confirm where said statement originally came from.
(2) What if I don't believe that anything added to the story later on -- even if by the original author himself -- should ever be taken as canonical? This is what I'm talking about when I say "there's no set canon".

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
I'm aware. I actually didn't mean to say "Oh, so they confirmed 'canon'!", but rather that if it turns out to be true, this "official history" to me seems like a way they'd describe what we (well, obviously not all of us) think canon is. Or it could very well just mean the history as a whole (so anime's fillers are included, etc), which only excludes the separate histories seen in the movies.VegettoEX wrote:Two points:hleV wrote:Official history seems equivalent to canon to me.

If any of this makes sense.

Ah, OK. Gotcha. Yeah, it seems like a vague way of saying, "we're going to try and fit this in so it would all internally make sense and not contradict anything".
Of course, the problem is that we don't know if anyone actually said that

Well that clears that up then. Thanks.VegettoEX wrote:Ah, OK. Gotcha. Yeah, it seems like a vague way of saying, "we're going to try and fit this in so it would all internally make sense and not contradict anything".

I wonder why ANN would even bother saying that in the first place though.. I guess they may be somewhat aware of all the canon debates regarding GT, DBO, and even Yo, Son Goku and his friends Return.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
If our update isn't clear (I... kinda think it is?), ANN isn't really the one saying it -- they're just quoting a Japanese news source. The problem is, said Japanese news source is wrong about said information being in the issue of Jump, and doesn't clarify where else that information may have come from.
Obviously it's going to be Buu-era-ish based on the character designs, but there's absolutely nothing said anywhere that we can track down stating it's supposed to take place during that specific time frame (between those two chapters in that time skip). Likely? Sure. Said somewhere officially? Not that we can see.

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
To be honest, it doesn't seem like a ground-breaking statement either way.
I agree with VegettoEX, that it sounds like a slightly obtuse way of saying, "Hey, this fits in the timeline we're all familiar with," as opposed to being clearly out of continuity as many previous Dragon Ball movies have been.
However, I think that was something we all assumed when we first saw the poster. It's the same reason people (Toei included) have no problem including Z Movie 13 in the anime timeline: Short of a major character death, or the Earth blowing up or something, it's nearly impossible to slot an adventure in the 10 years between Boo and the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai and have it contradict the story as we know it. It's the longest untouched period in the Dragon Ball timeline. They could tell me everyone spent two years in outer space at some point in that time span, and I'd be like, "Okay, I don't see why not."
