English-friendly Yamamoto episodes beyond 52?

Post by johnboy1 » Sat Jul 21, 2012 11:37 pm

I had to truncate that title a bit to fit the character limit. As we all know, the US Blu-rays ceased to have the Yamamoto score after episode 52. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to pick up the original Season One as well as Parts Three and Four before the prices shot through the roof. However, before I buy the Kikuchi-scored remainder, I was wondering: are there any (non-bootleg) releases from other countries that have both the Yamamoto score and English subs for episodes after 52? I haven't heard of any, but I wanted to check with you guys. I know the Japanese Blu-rays go up to episode 76, but I'm not going to shell out that kind of dough for something I can't understand.

No. No no no.

As I said in another thread, you can't just say, "Well, it's there, but I can't tell you about it, so just PM me and I'll link you."

I'm still aware of piracy behind the scenes at that point, and you're still liable for what you're doing, which means I'll probably be compelled to turn over any identifying information I have if someone comes a-knockin' with legal requests.

Well, piracy aside, I'm guessing from the only response that the answer is big fat "no". Well, 52 out of 98 isn't too bad, I guess. That's an F+, right?

Call me crazy but I don't let the Kikuchi score for Kai (repetitive or not) bug me that much. It's not above criticism and I don't love it but the new dub is worth it for me.

Eh, I don't think it's the most horrible thing, either. I'm more concerned about fidelity to the creators' intent. The score change was only enacted due to outside factors, as opposed to a creative decision. As such, the Yamamoto score technically has more artistic merit.

I remember seeing some videos on YouTube with NickToons logo/episodes so it's possible they went a little farther than the Home Release did.

Dragon Ball Z Kai - Future Trunks Vs. Mecha Friеza and King Cold

Anywho, not so legal I've heard really atrocious custom jobs which involved the English Kai dub and Kai music, where it went bad was the music because it sounded really shitty, back to the era where 96 Kbps were used, it's how some or most did. Not gonna name the person who tried to do a decent job with Yamamoto English dub.

Saiyan to Friеza's saga being my favourites they get a 9/10.

This is what I'm doing:
Parts 1-4 = Keep
Parts 5-8 = Sell (Shouldn't have bought them if I knew I was going to regret)
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

For me, I'm rebuilding the score myself while trying to get it the best I can, since I've noticed others used released themes to replace the unreleased ones but I'm wanting to make it at least 100% identical to the official mix. Luckily I got ahold of loseless rips for the soundtracks (Unreleased themes aren't loseless unfortunately :| ) and have kept all the Premiere exports so I can still make a Dolby TrueHD track if I'm doing the Blu-ray version. But for now, I'm just doing it for DVD and have done up to episode 77 so far.

Like what was mentioned above, back when Nicktoons aired Kai 24-7 episodes 53-63 still had the Yamamoto score, and to my knowledge the Kikuchi versions of those episodes never aired, even after episodes 1-52 and of course 64+ had its Kikuchi score aired. Extra odd because 53-63 were the first English DVD/Blu-Ray episodes to have the Kikuchi score. So yeah, if you get the Nicktoons channel, when epiosdes 53-63 of Kai are airing, try and watch them, they should have the Yamamoto score. However, now that Nicktoons airs GT and the Z movies Kai doesn't come on much anymore, so that's much easier said than done.

Alternatively, you could just replace the music yourself with the Yamamoto music. As long as you own the DVDs/Blu-Rays used to mess with the episodes, you're not doing anything illegal.
