Has anything ever been said about Jason Liebrecht's Jheese?
Has Jason Liebrecht ever said anything about voicing Jheese? Or have any of the other voice actors said anything about it? And did Chris Sabat (or whoever does the casting) ever give a reason for why they cast him as Jheese?

Re: Has anything ever been said about Jason Liebrecht's Jhee
I don't believe so, but I'll just say that I never had a problem with him. Yeah, he sounds a bit high-pitched and still has a bit of an accent (but it's less pronounced than McNeil and Sabat's respectively horrible impressions of a Birmingham and Australian accent), but it's unique and it fits, which is what's important.
I assume that Sabat gave him Jheese for the same reason he gave Butta to Mignogna. To lessen the amount of roles that he'd previously done because they were cheap and limited.

I still can't pin down that accent. Australian? British? Scottish? It varies from scene to scene.

I remember from a panel he did with Sean Schemmel that he needed reminding of what type of voice he used for Jeice when it came to doing fan requests. Someone suggested an Australian accent and the end result pretty much nailed Jeice from what we hear of him in Kai.penguintruth wrote:I still can't pin down that accent. Australian? British? To nitpick, Scotland's in Britain. There is no British accent. You probably mean English.penguintruth wrote:I still can't pin down that accent. Australian? British? Scottish? It varies from scene to scene.
But yeah, I can't pit down his accent either. Maybe his little quirks or whatever (like the way he pronounces "scouter") are just characteristics that are shared across various accents.

Why choose one specific accent though, when he's not from any of those places. I like the idea of mixing them.

I don't disagree, fusing a couple accents together to just make a weird alien voice is actually pretty clever.linkdude20002001 wrote:Why choose one specific accent though, when he's not from any of those places. I like the idea of mixing them.

I actually really enjoyed him as Jeice, I feel like he is far better than both Sabat and McNeil!
Also known as "GeniDude" and "NerdyNorwegian"!
Re: Has anything ever been said about Jason Liebrecht's Jhee
I agree. He is one of the reasons I consider DBZ in english to be more of a parody then a show.songohan619 wrote:I actually really enjoyed him as Jeice, I feel like he is far better than both Sabat and McNeil!

I agree because Goku speaks a pseudo dialect in the original Japanese version.linkdude20002001 wrote:Why choose one specific accent though, when he's not from any of those places. I like the idea of mixing them.

I don't know why anyone would have a problem with aliens having a scottish, irish, british or australian accent. If you buy the idea that everyone in the universe can speak the same language (whatever language the show is dubbed in) then why is this hard to swallow?
As for the actor in question, I like him a Jeice.

I kinda feel the same way about when they use "earth terms", like when people were up in arms when Vegeta said "24/7" at one point in the Kai English dub.ABED wrote:I don't know why anyone would have a problem with aliens having a scottish, irish, british or australian accent. Even Simmons' Kai subs did this at one point. When Freeza used his disc attack at Goku, Goku said it was a "Bush-league move", to which Freeza responded "Bush-league move you say?".

Re: Has anything ever been said about Jason Liebrecht's Jhee
That's kinda weak considering in the JPN version, Reccome calls Vegeta "Vegeta-Chan" meaning he, an alien, uses Japanese honorifics. Freeza uses "-san" for Zarbon and Dodoria who use "-sama" addressing their lord. I'm just saying it goes both ways.Metalwario64 wrote: I kinda feel the same way about when they use "earth terms", like when people were up in arms when Vegeta said "24/7" at one point in the Kai English dub.

I actually know and was referring to those people who take issue with this which he mentioned.ABED wrote:I think he meant he doesn't have a problem with Aliens using Earth terms.matt0044 wrote:That's kinda weak considering in the JPN version, Reccome calls Vegeta "Vegeta-Chan" meaning he, an alien, uses Japanese honorifics. If Dragon Ball were a serious story, then it's worth complaining about...but it's a gag manga. :p

Re: Has anything ever been said about Jason Liebrecht's Jhee
I have a feeling he was given the role because of his past experience at doing an Australian accent, he voiced John Brown in Ghost Hunt who was Australian so this could well be the reason.
He is one of my favorite voice actors, he was awesome as Hei in Darker than Black and i also think his voice suits Tapion well too.
