What are the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons?
GT is ending pretty quickly. They sped through the entire Super 17 saga already.
I have a strange feeling, that even though I like Funi's dub on Dragon Ball, that it will be censored for content like it's original airing. I think it's because GT and some of the movies on Nicktoons were fairly uncut, and Toonami never aired a TV-PG version of Dragon Ball.

Well, Nick has aired Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold and Ren and Stimpy that has PLENTY of risqué content but Dragon Ball... I'm stumped. It seems like the FCC has a bias for censoring Anime at times.sonikku956 wrote:GT is ending pretty quickly. They sped through the entire Super 17 saga already.

Well, if DB does air, I can guarantee you it'll be censored. I'll take it a step further and say that FUNimation will probably just give them the same edited masters that were provided to Cartoon Network all those years ago...which is not a criticism of FUNimation. Much like how they didn't go back and re-edit GT, they won't go back and re-edit DB because there's no financial incentive to do so. It would make no sense from a business standpoint.matt0044 wrote:Well, Nick has aired Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold and Ren and Stimpy that has PLENTY of risqué content but Dragon Ball... Having said that, I could see Nicktoons doing that if GT has proven to be successful enough (a MAJOR "if"). However, we have reason enough to believe that Kai has been a hit with Nicktoons viewers, because if it wasn't, there's no way they would have wanted GT. If Kai had been a flop on Nicktoons, they would have wanted it--and any other "Dragon Ball" related show--off the air as soon as possible to make room for another show that could bring in more viewers.
Also, at the risk of going a tad off-topic, what was risqué about "Hey Arnold"? I watched that show religiously growing up and can't remember anything about it that would be considered risqué.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Go to the Getting Crap Past the Radar page of Hey Arnold.
Re: What are the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons?
Well, Helga's mother was implied to be an alcoholic and there were some mentions of "crap." There's more but TV Tropes sums it up with "Getting Crap Past The Radar."TheBlackPaladin wrote: Also, at the risk of going a tad off-topic, what was risqué about "Hey Arnold"? If DB was edited for NT, they should reduce the sexual jokes to mere innuendoes. With this kind of stuff in mind: http://www.toonzone.net/forums/archive/ ... 72316.html Dragon Ball can get away with far more implications.
Re: What are the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons?
There's a big difference between implying someone's an alcoholic and actually showing someone drinking alcohol. Going by that logic makes a lot of inoffensive shows "risque".

Re: What are the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons?
I think the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons really depends on how well GT did/is doing, if the ratings are good enough Nicktoons might decide that the success of Kai and GT might be enough to warrant them airing the original series.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

I can see them doing it since it seems like they want to milk DB on Nick Toons since the fans like to watch the show on TV again. I'm pretty sure they will play the CN edited episodes from 2001-2003 because it would be cheaper. After they play the original Dragon Ball anime then they will likely play the DB movies.

If not they could possibly play the DB movies.Hellspawn28 wrote:I can see them doing it since it seems like they want to milk DB on Nick Toons since the fans like to watch the show on TV again. Didn't Curse of the Blood Rubies and the other two films played on CN before? I remember in 2001 or 2002 that they played Curse of the Blood Rubies. I guess they could play The Path to Power since they played the Broly movies and those movies were never played on CN.

Re: What are the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons?
I watched Cartoon Network's DB/Z airings constantly and I don't remember anything but the Z movies ever airing in that time period (or ever). I was also active in the internet fandom back then, and I definitely don't remember any news sites or forums mentioning the DB movies airing on US TV.Hellspawn28 wrote:Didn't Curse of the Blood Rubies and the other two films played on CN before? Really because I could have swear that they played one of the non DBZ films on CN before? Anyways, I don't see the big deal with people wanting the Buu saga so badly? Most people watch Kai know what happens next and newer fans could just easy go on the Internet to know what happens next.

I can see them playing the edited version of Path to Power. Not the series though.

I'm pretty sure Funimation still has the CN edited episodes of Dragon Ball from 2001-2003. I'm pretty sure Nick Toons will market the show as "Come see Goku's origins for the first time!".

You sure? Where do they keep such old stuff? Plus, would they be usable after all this time? Then again, they did have GT...Hellspawn28 wrote:I'm pretty sure Funimation still has the CN edited episodes of Dragon Ball from 2001-2003. Re: What are the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons?
Well think about all the other countries that air DB/DBZ/GT. For example in Australia they aired the CN version of Dragon Ball Z for years. They stopped airing it last October of 2011. Same edits, same Replacement intro. They most likely hold the edited copies of the episodes somewhere.matt0044 wrote:You sure? Where do they keep such old stuff? Re: What are the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons?
I'm pretty sure FUNimation has everything they've ever worked on in an archive in case they should ever need it, so I wouldn't put it past them to still have the original film source or digital backup of the CN edited episodes of DB that NT could use, heck I bet that they still have backups of all of the first 13 episodes and the blood rubies dub from the 1995 dub they worked on with BLT Productions.matt0044 wrote:You sure? Re: What are the chances of Dragon Ball airing on Nicktoons?
I guess after they show DB then they have nothing else to show since they played all of the DBZ movies and the TV specials. Funimation would need to buy the rights to the Bardock special and the Jump special soon if they want to milk DBZ even more on TV.
