This is true if you're referring to the RRA arc. I get the impression that's where most people who came from Z drop out, and therefore miss the concentrated awesome that is the Piccolo Daimao ordeal.

You are forgetting, of course, that being a movie, we would need to compress things anyway, which would likely mean Piccolo-style action and drama (quite possibly the only thing DBE got right... in theory, at least).

As has been said, it'd be easy enough to merge the three main villains of pre-Z--Pilaf, the Red Ribbon Army and Piccolo. Have the RRA be the main antagonists, with Piccolo being the big bad pulling the strings, and Pilaf being a side-villain of incompetence, much as in the manga.
I'd think it would be hard to get Tenshinhan properly developed if we want to focus on earlier characters like Yamcha, Krillin, etc. And the way the characters' roles develop through the series, that might need to be the case. :(
(Not that I didn't try to shove it all in there in my notes. And that is why I am not making movies, and the people behind Spidey3 and X3 ... are? ... They're still making movies, right?)

... wait, why did Fox renew their DB license, again?
... Wait, why am I not dropping screenplays in coffeeshops frequented by Fox execs like Brian Griffen? That worked out real well for him!

I hope this response isn't too late. I agree with everything Son Geeko said about explaining the origins properly instead of a 5 minute segment that says Goku is strong. I think it would be possible to do this and start with the Saiyan arc if it is treated as the start. Kami learns of a threat and sends for the world's most promising martial artists for training. He gets the bandit, the monk, the assassins in training, the samurai, and the country boy. Kami becomes desperate and releases Piccolo. Etc. I would prefer starting with the Piccolo Daimao arc but I do think introducing Vegeta and his rivalry is important for a potential series.

All I know is that I don't like overbearing expositional narration. Yet somehow I'm ok with the narration we get in the manga/anime (and Starwars)...
(the prologue to Kai and Sagas.... Not so sure. The prologue to Spider-man 3? Eww.)

Damn near everybody makes the same mistake when they start talking about making a Dragonball film. Nobody cares about original Dragonball in the US. You are not going to get your six movie franchise where the first is the Pilaf Arc, the second is a Tien character study with mood lighting and Raditz doesn't show up until the stinger end for the fifth.

I'm curious why you would ask something like that, more so than anything else. Do you feel that Goku has those types of tendencies in the original source material? Just looking for something different to shake things up and set it apart?

Hmm well its very suggestive in the original source material, and fusion can be skewed in some perverted way as a form of sex. Many fans even found some homosexual undertone in Goku's speech to vegeta in movie 12, and in GT before they fused to fight Omega Shenron. Also I was just remembering Donald Glover's campaign to get a chance to play spiderman, and how people were 50/50 on it some thought it would be good and a fresh to have spiderman be played by him since he had the comedy and acting credibility to pull off peter parker and their was never a black spiderman before. While others were cold and were like no, spiderman is white, you can't just change a character for the sake of changing. I just wanted to see how it would play out if we had a similar scenario in dragon ball setting.

I don't think you'd even be able to tell the difference because Goku doesn't seem to have a libido at all. He's never been shown being attracted to anybody of either gender or shown having any interest in sex.

Unless another person used the method Chi-Chi used on him (telling him he made a promise to her and Goku doesn't like to break promises) I wager he'd probably have remained single the rest of his life.
On hiatus.

I never got that answer on how people would feel if in the live action movie they made Vegeta Goku's boyfriend, or say gave him a male companion/love interest.

Well, like Chuquita just said, having any kind of romantic interest at all (regardless of gender) seems pretty far out-of-character for Goku, so it would definitely start to head into Chatku territory in terms of, "Well, that's just not Goku."

My ideal live action DB Film would basically be Path to Power: The King Piccolo edition.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
