Re: Dragon Box vol. 2
A brand new sealed is currently at $255 and will possible increase even more.

I won't list Amazon.com's prices because they're too much ($600-$1000).

Re: Dragon Box vol. 2
God, what the fuck. You could probably buy the Japanese Dragon Box and the orange bricks for subtitles for less than it is on Amazon.
Re: Dragon Box vol. 2
I have the entire English manga series from Viz, which seems to be quite accurate to it's Japanese heritage. I like the anime, while not as much as the manga...I still like it even with some of it's filler. Since it's the same story though I wonder if I should even invest money into getting these. It would have to be a couple of years down the road though for me to even begin. I probably wouldn't do it until I had a nice big screen in my house. And at that point the prices might be even more ridiculous unless Funimation decides to start printing more or do a Dragon Box on Blu Ray. Oh well. Maybe I'll just stick to the feature films.

It has been said it'd probably be a 480p upscale on Blu-ray in 1080p.Ness wrote:And at that point the prices might be even more ridiculous unless Funimation decides to start printing more or do a Dragon Box on Blu-ray. Oh well. Maybe I'll just stick to the feature films.
FUNimation's got already enough upscales on BD another one? Please no.

What titles have been upscaled by Funimation on Blu-Ray?dbboxkaifan wrote:It has been said it'd probably be a 480p upscale on Blu-ray in 1080p.Ness wrote:And at that point the prices might be even more ridiculous unless Funimation decides to start printing more or do a Dragon Box on Blu-ray. They haven't brought up the 1080p footage of the Orange Bricks (4:3) on Blu-ray, but at some point FUNimation will again try to resurrect DBZ on BD.
BD's great except for the really slow disc speed.

Re: Dragon Box vol. 2
yeah every time some lists it on ebay.com they either start the bid high and have a reserve and will not ship to australia. Thats kind of why I've turned to this website and the prices on amazon are a joke, no dvd is worth that much. especially when in time the prices will drop.

Re: Dragon Box vol. 2
Well you have to think about it, the amount of dvd releases funimation has brought out there bound to get cheaper at some stage. over here in australia they released box sets for Aus only they came out at $100+ then they became discontinued now you can get them for around $20, and thats not to mention when dvds become like VHS and get phased out. At the moment i believe people are being a bit greedy and overpricing the volumes eg. The prices on amazon.
I'm just finding it hard to finish my set due to these prices. I'm up for negotiations on pricing if anyone looking to sell would like to pm me.

Re: Dragon Box vol. 2
Well Madman gave an indication that if they gauged there was enough interest in a limited run of the dragon boxes in Australia they would look into it.
Does not help that most hardcore fans got it when it was out as well as the fact that these are the ones who imported it from the US.
I was so relieved to get my dragon box 2 for $60 a couple of months ago.
If the blu rays come back and are fully released this time I can see people selling of their dragon boxes.
I will probably double dip too.
Wish you luck in your search. It took 3 months of constant searching to find my copy. Doesn't help when you live in Australia either.

Re: Dragon Box vol. 2
Did Manga Entertainment UK ever explain why they chose the Orange Bricks over the Dragon Boxes? Because the OBs were cheaper?
The brand new sealed Dragon Box Z Vol. 2 has increased to $305.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DragonBall-Z-Dr ... 43b2dc41ce
I wonder what kind of ridiculous amounts of money are people willing to give for a "used - as new" Dragon Box Z Vol. 2 too. I'll be selling my DBOX Z 2 this September but haven't decided where exactly.
I hate eBay for the absurd selling fees but for this kind of thing it seems better to sell at than Amazon.

Because they were cheaper, and because Toei suggested them as the sort of default, already-complete, ready-to-go product to sub-license (info via Jerome Mazandarani during our podcast interview).dbboxkaifan wrote:Did Manga Entertainment UK ever explain why they chose the Orange Bricks over the Dragon Boxes? That's unfathomable, in my opinion. What could be going through Toei's mind that they'd endorse such a butchered product? I know Madman had already done a PAL release for Australia and unless Madman had to deal exclusively with FUNimation, you would think they could have licensed a 4:3 print.VegettoEX wrote:Because they were cheaper, and because Toei suggested them as the sort of default, already-complete, ready-to-go product to sub-license (info via Jerome Mazandarani during our podcast interview).dbboxkaifan wrote:Did Manga Entertainment UK ever explain why they chose the Orange Bricks over the Dragon Boxes? In a way, it's similar to the DVDs of the 80s Transformers which, originally done by Rhino were produced with film elements based off work prints containing early and/or unfinished animation. When Shout! Factory acquired the license, Hasbro insisted the Rhino masters were to be used, but Shout! went the extra mile and corrected as many of the mistakes which they (and fans) could find by using the completed broadcast masters.
I guess I just cannot wrap my head around the justification of such a flawed product just because it already exists. It is perhaps the epitome of the idiom "you get what you pay for."

Probably the fact that they were really popular in the US, and maybe Australia too.OutlawTorn wrote:That's unfathomable, in my opinion. What could be going through Toei's mind that they'd endorse such a butchered product?
I think Madman does sub-license everything through FUNimation. And I think a Madman rep specifically said they were reluctant about it, but the masters were already 16:9, so there was nothing they could do. But the bricks were still a big deal for Australia more so than the US, because most of Madman's old DBZ DVDs (based on FUNimation's original VHS and DVD singles) were dub only.OutlawTorn wrote:I know Madman had already done a PAL release for Australia and unless Madman had to deal exclusively with FUNimation, you would think they could have licensed a 4:3 print.
But I think Madman doesn't necessarily have to release everything FUNimation puts out, because I seem to recall that they actually declined to license the Dragon Box masters.

Re: Dragon Box vol. 2
I feel ya man, it really does suck how rare and expensive they are. A similar thing happened to me today with Indigo Chapters who, after promising me that they would find me a copy from their vendor for over a month now, just emailed me saying they couldn't and canceled my order. I'm beginning to lose all hope in collecting the last piece of my collection. I just hope someone would sell it for a reasonable price or, Funimation decides to do an another run of them, however the latter is extremely unlikely. To anyone who knows, has Funimation ever reprinted new copies of one their products before after they have been discontinued?sluga wrote:Is anyone looking at selling Dragonball Z: Dragon Box Vol. 2 as I'm looking to buy it and have been screwed around with chapters and amazon.
