Viz vs Original (Manga Scans)

Post by the1payday » Tue Feb 07, 2006 6:20 pm

Hello I'm new here so how is everybody? This board looks amazing compared to some other DBZ boards out there. So, onto my question! Recently VIZ manga has been cutting a lot of gore and such in the Dragon Ball Z graphic novel series. I was wondering if anyone who owns the original Japanese Tankoubon would like to post some scans of pictures edited by VIZ, and then also scan the editted counterparts. Thanks!

To my knowledge, VIZ has not cut any gore from the series, ever. What you're looking for is either nudity, Mr. Popo's lips, or anything with the word "SATAN" on it.

Viz cut some blood out of the scene of the old couple getting shot in the head, as well as all the blood on Bee as he was dying. Both of these were in DBZ volume 24.

And don't forget guns. They edited out Juunanagou's when he was threatening an man in Trunks' reality, and the gunmen who shot the old couple and Bee were sporting laser guns.

Yea...no real gore is censored. You can fully see the Cell Jr's getting ripped apart and Bobbidi's neck hole shooting blood and things of that sort.

But if there's a gun around? Haha, No.

I can list just about every change or "edit" Viz has made...not including the reissue's of old volumes. But, if it's just gore you're concerned about, you aren't missing a thing.

Viz's edits are as questionable and inconsistant as 4Kids' editing.

CONSPIRACY?!

Hmm. I didn't know that. I have the issue of ShonenJumpUSA with Trunks' return to the future, and I saw right through the edit, but I'd figured they'd just edited that for the mag. I'll have to look at Volume 19 next time I'm in a bookstore...

It's the same in the Graphic Novel.

I think they also replaced Gohan's private, with like....a line or something haha, it really cracks me up. This was an edit present in Book 2.

Oh yeah, and the whole Hercule thing, it aggravates the hell out of me.

The funny thing is, the edit was in the first print of the English tankoubon (the large version), yet wasn't in the comic book version. o_O
