Lord of the Rings Return of the King has won all 11 awards it was nominated for this year at the oscars, including Best Film - tying with Ben Hur and Titanic for most won academy awards in the history of the Oscars! Truly one film to RULE THEM ALL!

This is just too awesome ^^;;

I sooooo wish it could have beat Titanic out though instead of tying with it. Lord, I hate that movie with a passion!

Everytime I hear that wretched "My Heart Will Go On" crap song, I want to ram my head through the nearest plate-glass window to drown out the pain with more pain.

I don't mind it tying with Ben Hur though.

It did beat Titannic. Ben Hur beat Titannic by one award (they were both nominated for the same amount though).

I know it doesn't prove anything, and that it was already an amazing film. I hate awards shows, especially the Oscars, that are a "joke". I hardly even follow Hollywood movies, just foreign films, especially Asian cinema and anime. But I still love it when a film made by a guy who could care less about Hollywood, wins everything over "industry-type kiss-ups" like Clint Eastwood.

And beats out an "overdramatic", "over-the-top", "hack" movie like Titanic. That movie's an insult to the real victims of that tragedy.

Well, that's probably why I don't watch these things. I rarely ever see movies... but I did see the return of the king, so I'm glad it won.

I saw the Oscars. That sentence along might not say much to all of you, but let me first state the time difference between America and the Netherlands... The Oscars were from 2 AM to 6 AM here. Coffee is your friend.

That said, Return of the King is a great movie, and one of my personal favourites, but... this was too much. Quite a few of the awards they got were awards they truly deserved (Art direction, costume design, etc..), but 11 out of 11 is insane. For one thing, the song ''Into the West'' made me cringe in pain, and was truly no contest to some of the beautiful songs that were nominated. So why, in the name of all that is holy, did it win?

Most were deserved, though, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Oh, and Bill Murray should've won ''Best Actor''. Damn you, Hollywood!

Ya, I wasn't too impressed with the song "Into the West" either. It's alright, but I find the song a bit of a "snoozefest" when I hear it. Actually, I've found the ending songs for all three LOTRs movies have never matched the rest of the film for some reason. And well, 11 out of 11 wins can be explained by the fact that the oscars have always played it safe and been predictable. Dai, there was no chance in Hell they were gonna give it to Bill Murray. Hey, I wanted Ken Watanabe to win for Best Supporting Actor. I loved him in the NHK series "Hojo Tokimune", but I knew there was noooo way he would.

I'm sure they are great, and I'll try reading them again when have less to do. When I'm 65, probably.

Enjoyed the films though.

But Bill Murray was great in Lost In Translation. In fact, he's great, period.

The song award has always been ridiculous. I remember when South Park lost out to the Phil Collins shite from "Tarzan". Disgusting, when South Park had the catchiest, most well written songs since The Little Mermaid.

That's the books for you... seriously, they either talk about the current position of the trees, or they talk about the current color of the skies. "The trees were particularly barkish and leafy on this fine day, while the sky had a breathtaking pastel thingy of grey. Blah blah nature blah. Okay so Pippin says- Oh wait, did that plant get blown a little in the wind? I better write 3 paragraphs about it." But I think the Hobbits didn't even sing enough, I would warmly welcome the Hobbit singing over the nature any day.

I don't mean that they are directly comparable as such. Rather that Disney are the past-masters at winning that catagory, and that "The Little Mermaid" was the last film they made with truelly great songs. Aladdin and The Lion King's were good (not great), but it's been downhill from there, and the Phil Collins stuff in "Tarzan" was truely awful, especially when compared with the downright brilliant songs from the South Park movie.

Ya okay, so Tolkien wasn't the greatest writer. That's common knowledge, which is why I prefer C.S. Lewis anyway, but the books are still better, especially if you loooove battle scenes! But I understand your feelings Liam. I find that some people I've talked to about LOTR can't stand reading the books for the same reasons you stated. My mum has tried to read the books twice, and she still can't get into them! I wouldn't worry about it Liam. Some take to it and some don't.

I'm pretty geeky when it comes to them.

I even read and enjoyed The Silmarillion!
