How would you make the DBZ sequel?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I updated the OP, what do you think of my idea? I mean, the mysterious Demon Realm is never really explored in Dragon Ball. Its part of the entire universe and its an evil place yet it has no connection to Hell or anything else. Why is it there? What is its purpose? Just to spawn demons out of nowhere? Obviously something's locked up inside it.

Make "The Plan to Eradicate the Super Sayains" a harbinger of something. Probably something demon-related, since that is the only place left to go aside from power-altering worlds or breaking the universe.

Just like Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

Maybe the new enemies are Makaioshin?

The demons are really the only thing we have left. Depends on how much a gap between Dabra and the Makaioshin you want, since the differences in the Kaios and Kaioshins seem to stem from the latter being introduced later, and I don't want to repeat that kind of Toriyama sloppy. But Dabra was king of that world and pigeonholed in the power scale for a specific purpose, because his being demon king was meant to build up his character, not his kind.

Really, I was referring to the idea of emotional energy taking form; we already have ki, fighting spirit, and the seemingly approved negative energy in the dragon balls, so why not?

~~~LONG POST~~~
I'd start off with a retelling of the entire first arc of GT, with some alterations, and the additions to the timeline from DBO.
Baby arc:
I wouldn't have there be a set of "Ultimate Dragon Balls". The mayhem that causes the first arc to begin comes from the same old set that's been used for the entire series. Goku wants to show Uub Shenlong, so they gather the balls. Due to the negative energy buildup, Shenlong is red and evil. Instead of granting Goku's wish, he curses Goku, stunting his power and turning him into a child. Balls fly off into space, Earth blows up in a year if they're not returned, etc. Things progress mostly the same until Baby is defeated. Main differences being, no SSj Gohan (Mystic powerup still being in effect), Uub's fusion with Buu actually makes a difference, and the SSj4 transformation breaks Shenlong's curse (thus Goku is again an adult).
After the conclusion of the arc, Dende seals the balls away to prevent anymore negative energy from accumulating (just like in DBO).
Evil Dragons arc:
After abusing his connections and gathering a plethora of intel, Pilaf sneaks up to the lookout much like the beginning of GT proper. He takes the balls and summons Shenlong, who appears even more evil this time. His ki is so immense that it attracts pretty much anyone who really gives a damn about protecting their planet. After a brief conversation, a short battle occurs, after which Shenlong splits into 7 lesser dragons through which to ravage the earth, each one carrying a ball.
Goku, Vegeta (who now attains SSj4 through the same methods as in GT), Gohan, and Uub each square off with a dragon one on one (Goku's being the one carrying the 4 star ball obviously). Pan and Gotenks defeat one together. Krillin, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Piccolo take one down together, by finally abusing all of their special attacks together. 17 and 18 also beat one. Each dragon turns into a ball when defeated, like in GT. After all 7 of them are defeated, they fly towards each other and Shenlong re-summons himself.
Thinks progress fairly analogous to GT from here, only with a more menacing looking dragon (SSj4 Gogeta fools around too long, Universal Genki Dama). Afterwards, just as in GT, Goku flies away with Shenlong.
"TV Special":
An exposition of Shenlong's and Polunga's true nature, and an explanation of what happens at the end of the Evil Dragons arc.
Shenlong in fact lives among other mystical nigh-omnipotent dragons outside of the massive sphere that makes up the cosmos, in what is called the "Dragon Realm". The dragon balls simply open a portal when gathered, allowing a specific dragon to pass through it and enter the cosmos when called. Each time a dragon passes through such a portal, they become more and more corrupted, eventually turning evil (and eventually gaining a massive boost in power). When inside of the cosmos, each dragon's power is stunted to a monumental degree.
The lowest part of the cosmos is a sealed area known as the Makaioshin Realm. Evil beings flourish there, some more powerful than the dragons themselves when inside of the cosmos. Knowing it to only be a matter of time before the seal is broken and the horrifyingly powerful Makaioshin and their subjects wreak havoc upon all of existence, the highest pantheon of draconic rulers appoint certain Shinjin to gather the souls of the most powerful and heroic individuals throughout the universe (these Shinjin being the Kaio and Kaioshin). The souls of these fighters would be given new bodies in the afterlife, so as to train, and form an army to combat the Makaioshin's (as the dragons themselves would be unable to measure up while inside of the cosmos).
Shenlong and Polunga lack faith in the plan set forth by their rulers to prepare for the impending Makaioshin conflict, and take more desperate measures for preparation. The dragons all allow themselves to be used for wish granting purposes as a means of attempting to find a champion of sorts to defeat the Makaio and Makaioshin. They believe that a champion from inside of the realm is needed to combat the evil forces inside of the cosmos, as opposed to an army.
Makaioshin arc:
Shenlong chooses Goku as such a champion at the end of the Evil Dragons arc. He brings him out to the Dragon Realm to train him in preparation for the conflict. Goku receives a powerup through a method not unlike the one Gohan receives from the Elder Kaioshin. Along with this powerup, he learns a new technique that enhances his SSj4 form in short bursts, similar to Kaioken.
Seal breaks, the Makaioshin escape and start destroying things. Goku arrives, uses his new powerup, which doesn't actually work against these foes. He fuses with Vegeta, but still SSj4 Gogeta can only barely match the all powerful leader of the Makaioshin. After diffusing, attempting to make another Genki Dama, and not succeeding in the latter, all hope seems lost. Enough time is bought for Gogeta to re-fuse. He then abuses Goku's new dragon-based ability to turn the tables back around. He uses dragon-based magic whilst using the technique to sap all remaining genki from the opposing forces, and create a negatively charged Ganki Dama. He then switches the polarity of the ball of ki, absorbs it into his body, and proceeds to use the Dragon Fist technique to finish the fight.
More to come later.
