Which timeskip would you like to see expanded upon?

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Tue Oct 02, 2012 7:07 am

With the upcoming movie being set during the quote, un-quote "Lost Decade" in the lead up to the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai (Booty-kai TenKAichi THREE!), I thought it would be an appropriate time to bring up the subject of "timeskips".
Which one would you like to have seen expanded upon?

Personally, I would've liked more insight into the events that took place in the 7 years prior to Great Saiyaman, more specifically what Vegeta was doing in that time. In the 9th DBZ Movie we saw him sittin' on his arse watching TV, but we all know he left the house eventually. How long did it take him to fully adapt to "Earth Life"? I know he would've done a bit of this in the 3 years before the Artificial Humans/Androids and even before Freeza returned (there was that one panel of him having a barbecue), but a good portion of that time was spent training as well. In the "7 Years" there would've been a period where Vegeta was recovering from his "depression" so I doubt there would've bee much training going on.

Before this turns into a fan-fic', what are your thoughts?

- Fun Fact: If you type "Timeskip" into Google images, the first result is a Dragon Ball-related image. :P

And the next 16 after that are all One Piece.

Wanna see some of the Buu - 28th timeskip, and the Cell - Buu timeskip.

1. The 5 year timeskip between the end of the 23rd Tournamet arc and Radditz' arrival, mostly because I'd like to see how Goku handled settling down and becoming a father.
2. The 3 year time skip spent preparing for the androids simply because of that filler episode with the driver's license.

To be perfectly honest, almost any period that was skipped over from the end of the Piccolo Daimao arc and the end of the Buu Saga would be interesting to see, but those 2 would probably be my favorite.

They're already doing the second timeskip I'm most interested in with the upcoming movie (the timeskip between Boo's defeat and the actual end of DBZ), but there's still two more that I'd really like to see tackled as well.

1) The timeskip between Z and GT.

That's the one I'm most interested in seeing, mostly because I'd like to see more of Pan and Oob, but noooo, this period of time seems to always get passed over since those characters seem to be more ingrained into GT than they are Z. :?

Also, there's this -

I'm not sure how much fertile ground for a story there is in that timeskip, but since that area has my favorite level of fighting - still lots of focus on strategy and hand-to-hand combat, but still the option for a huge energy attack to finish it off - I'd love to see what comes in there.

The one they're doing right now for the movie (the 10 years between Buu and Uub) is one of my favorite skips, so I'm thrilled it got picked. I partly wish it was even a little more towards the end of those 10 years because Goku and child!Pan make a fun team and I want to see how Vegeta and Bura interact. But I'll happily take the early end of those 10 too; Jump 08 special was fantastic.

Other skips I'd like to see used in the future; the 5 years between DB and Z (I enjoyed the Goku and Chi-Chi mini-arc, I'd like to see more of their adventures), and those 3 years in-between Trunks and the jinzoningen showing up (Vegeta trying to acclimate himself on Earth, Piccolo living with the Sons.)
On hiatus.

I agree with Chuquita. The one I would kill to see is Goku with kid pan and Vegeta with Bura. There's just so much potential for comedy with these grown powerful men trying to take care of cute and charming little girls.

The ten year gap between Boo and the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai. I want to see some Of Goku and Vegeta's training, as well as the interactions during the view times everyone got together.

I'd love to see things from all of them! My ideal Dragon Ball remake would flesh out Kame-Sennin's training more, have content from Goku's three-year solo training arc (I'm imagining lots of fun adventures, there could be a great mini-arc here), do something with the five year gap between the 23rd Tenkaichi Boudoukai and the arrival of Raditz (This one is a must, in order to heal up the tear between Dragon Ball and "Dragon Ball Z" which I dislike so much. I'd love to see more Goku/Chichi adventures. It would be good if some form of The Dead Zone, made consistent with the rest of the series, could go here, to open up for a form of the Garlic Jr arc later, and to allow Goku and Chichi to have be involved in a serious battle together), have a lot more character stuff from the three years after Trunks' visit (especially Vegeta/Bulma), and have some story arc between the Cell and Buu arcs (I want to see Kuririn and 18 getting together, I want Goku to be dead for longer in terms of screen-time to make him really seem dead).

I really like the times of peace in Dragon Ball these days. I like stuff to do with the characters, I like it when they're just hanging around and not dealing with any threads to the Earth, so I'd love to see more from all of the gaps. I'm more interested in the relationships developing than anything, because weddings and stuff are pretty big, and Dragon Ball is really just about the lives of the characters. Based on that alone I probably would say the three years pre-androids, but I also care a lot about fusing DB and DBZ back together, so I'd like there to be more content there to create a smooth flow, and I'm inclined to choose the seven years to make Goku dead for longer.

My final decision is the seven years post-Cell. This is because:

1. Goku stays dead for longer

2. Vegeta becoming accustomed to life on Earth. I'm imagining him becoming much friendlier toward the other characters and properly becoming "one of the gang", taking up some hobby besides training, really developing his relationship with Bulma (and, apparently, getting married), and maybe telling her about the alien science that even she and Dr Brief don't know about yet.

3. Kuririn and 18. It would be great for this to develop somewhat slowly, with a "chase".

4. It's a long gap with no "stitching". (The gaps pre-Z are all stitched together, the story before the gap leads directly into the story after the gap. In Z, this often isn't the case. Filling part of the gap with something makes it better)

5. Goten and Trunks.

Clearly, these things would have to be interwoven into some kind of plot or it simply wouldn't be Dragon Ball. The Vegeta/Bulma and Kuririn/18 stuff probably mostly occurs in the first year or so after Cell, so it would continue directly from there. Stuff to do with Goten and Trunks is more likely to be toward the end of the gap, so to have that there we'd just resume viewing a little earlier.

I'd like to see more of the time between the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai and the Saiyan Saga. It would have been fun to see more of Goku being out his element as a husband and father. The few things we saw in the pre-Cell Games filler were a lot of fun.

A look into Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz's days conquering planets would be cool, although that's not really a 'timeskip'.

I was gonna say. Seeing more Raditz and young Vegeta(maybe as a teen) would be great.

I would have liked to see more from between the time when the Nameks were on earth and Krillan and Yamcha were wished back. It would be interesting to see what Vegeta got up to in that time, all we know is that he lived at Capsule Corp until the Dragon was summoned, also it would be interesting to see Gohan and Dende friendship expanded on and of course it would be great to see how the Nameks handled life on earth.

This could be a single episode or special. Heck, I would also love a special on the Siayan Uprising at Planet Plant. Young Bardock fighting... while (king)Vegeta leads the way.

The year between Freeza's defeat and return, since I'm curious as to what Gokuu got up to on Yardrat, aside from fine-tuning Super Saiyan and learning teleportation. Also, I want to see what Vegeta did; if he just took off with one of Dr. Brief's spaceships like in the filler and fought a bunch of aliens, or he just stayed on Earth to train in the mountains and had the odd barbecue to relax.

The patch of time between Piccolo Daimao's defeat and the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai.

I'd like to see Goku get increasingly tall. Like, did it happen gradually, or did Kami decide one day he was too short and make him taller with his Kami-magic?

Mr. Popo says, "Kami, what about his voice?"

Kami says, "Shut up, Popo."
