Dragon Ball Kai comes to Poland

Post by Eire » Tue Oct 02, 2012 4:06 pm

As title says. From 8th November, every weekday at 15.30. Overdub or subs, I bet the latter, since they underline that that will be Japanese version.
I wonder if they are going to correct mistakes and mispronunciations of old Z (translated from French in early 00s).
Pity that's a quite obscure channel, not available in most cable TV offers, nor one of the two main satellite TV providers.

If it's subbed you shouldn't worry as they have to translate what's on the subtitles not use dubtitles.

In case the Polish version turns out to be like Portugal's.. It's gonna be one big mess.

Heh...that's true, I didn't think about that. Technically the previous Polish "dub,"* was translated from the French dub of DBZ, itself not the best translation. I too hope that Poland will get to translate from the original Japanese version, but if they do go with a translation of the uncut English dub, it would still be a relatively massive improvement over what Poland received for their DBZ "dub."

*"Dub" put in quotation marks only because it was more of an "overdub" than a "dub" in the traditional sense. The French voices were still clearly audible in the background while a narrator spoke over them.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

AXN Spin aired GT recently and it was based on the original script, so I guess this is gonna be the same.

You're wrong, Kei. GT is translated from the English dub.

On the other hand on Facebook they wrote about "Japanese Version" so they should fulfil the promise.

I have a feeling Toei's been handing out the English dub's script as a 'translation' to licensors, to save work on having to do an English translation of their own, given that every dub in Europe with the exception of the French one has used FUNimation's script as a base.

Really, every one? How many European dubs...well, okay, Portugal didn't have a dub. Allow me to rephrase. How many European releases of Kai have there been?

I'm keeping a look out for a German dub. That was my favorite of the European dubs, mostly because their screams sounded cool and because they corrected a few of the translation errors in other European dubs (like correctly saying "Saiyajin" instead of "Space Warrior").

So far, at least France (which had a subtitled airing first, and that's probably the only reason they didn't use FUNi's script), Portugal, Cataluña, Galicia... Last three were based on the FUNi script (I spot-checked a few lines from each to be sure, notably the 'childhood sweetheart Chichi' line in episode 1).

There's one thing that got me thinking: why is Toei giving FUNi's dub script as a translation to foreign licencors? Can't they give them the scripts from the subtitles that were translated by Steve Simmons and Clyde Mandelin?

Who knows? Licensors might prefer a script that doesn't have Japanese honourifics or something.

Most of AXN's anime releases were translated from Japanese, so it isn't them.

Would there be an issue if the translator worked on different subtitles to translate than the ones he was officially given?

Puto has covered you, but, back in 2011 I was told there was going to be a Castellano dub of Kai by SelectaVision on DVD, I suppose it's still in production, or was cancelled. The new Ocean Dub has been the same thing.

The Castellano/Canadian Kai dubs are like PS3's custom firmwares after 3.55, it takes ages, or never gets done.

It certaintly won't have subs, only a lector over Japanese Voices, like previous Dragon Ball series that aired on here.

Well, i'll be waiting since I'm Polish. For one i'm wondering if it will have Kenji's or Kikuchi's BGMs.

It will be Kikuchi like the other dubs since the scandal.

What's there to wonder about? We're not in the initial beginning of Kai any more, the series been out for a long time now and since then all dubs (plus the original audio Japanese) has been replaced with the replacement music (Kikuchi).

I might watch one or two episodes, if only for checking translation quality, but still, Kikuchi soundtrack... I`ve watched couple of episodes in French dub, and it`s really bad, i still dont believe that I'm saying this, since music was fantastic in Z

I found the French Kai dub a lot better than the old French dub, despite having forgotten most of the French I knew I'm still able to tell what they could be saying.

Yeah, the music kind of ruined it, but it's removable with computer software I think.
