Ocean - Actors coming and going.
Funi - Chris Sabat & certain Falconer tracks that are just plain annoying and sound like polyphonic ringtones... Perfect Cell theme comes to mind.

That's actually from the In-House Funimation Dub.Beji wrote: Ocean:Gohan's line "Wow! My gosh! That means my dad is one of the strongest fighters in sspacee"
I really enjoyed the fight and I wished that Goku had given the senzus later in the dub only so Gohan and Krillin wouldn't talk.

That's precisely why ordinary men pursue the concept of perfection, it's infatuation. But ultimately I have to ask myself "What is the true meaning of being perfect?" and the answer I came up with was nothing. Not one thing. The truth of the matter is I despise perfection! If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect! Scientist's agonize over the attempt to achieve perfection! That's the kind of creatures we are! We take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to reach for something that in the end, we have to admit may in fact be unreachable!"

I don't mind most of the voices, but the dialogue in the Funi 1999 - 2005 dub was terrible looking back on it. Most of it was poorly written and came off cheesy most of the time.

The biggest thing coming to mind right now is Marron's voice. I think she is adorable, but I can't stand when she opens her mouth.
But I give DBZ props for being the only anime dub that I like.
And if you think the Funi dub is bad, wait till you see the AB Groupe dub. That is juts hilarious.

I get it, but I'm being sincere. I've never had a problem with Schemmel's Nail. It's everyone else (Goku, Kaio) I had a problem with.Saiga wrote:I can't tell if this post is sincere or as sarcastic as the one you made before it.penguintruth wrote:Really? That was the one Schemmel role I always liked.Saiga wrote:Nail's voice (FUNi dub). Out of all the bad voices, it was just one I could not stand no matter what line he said. Luckily Nail didn't have much screentime.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Hey penguintruth. Your list of opinions on the DBZ cast is really good. You should do a few more. Also, I added you on Skype so feel free to have a chat sometime.

Re: Anything that You Guys Didn't Like in the DBZ Dub
I suppose I ought to preface this: What I'm talking about here is the pre-Kai Toonami broadcast. So recently watching the dub with Japanese subtitles on really opened my eyes. Not only is there dialogue in many places that there wasn't originally, but much of the dialogue is either completely off-course to the original script in unnecessary ways, reworded to fit a Westernized theme/expression, or just completely unrelated at all to the original. Even characters' personalities. In the dub, Goku is a slightly goofy action hero who is limitlessly benevolent. Whereas in the Japanese, he is a sheltered, flawed manchild who, while still a sweet person, is primarily concerned with fighting stronger guys. His actions at the end of Z with Uub doesn't make a lot of sense in the context of the dub.
I was Thanos before the MCU existed!

Like how Isaac is going to end up on Dexter's table.

Re: Anything that You Guys Didn't Like in the DBZ Dub
Yamcha was the ultimate chew toy in Funi's dub until Kai. Stephanie Nadolmy was a better actress for "Kid" Goku (I put quotation marks because when the series started, Goku wasn't really a kid due to the fact that he was 12, but Saiyans stay in their youth longer than us...).
Also, watching Kai and then watching Z felt...alien. Freeza's voice was grating during the '99 run.

Re: Anything that You Guys Didn't Like in the DBZ Dub
Maybe, maybe not. I was introduced to the dub, FUNimation's original two seasons, and I loved it. I liked the music, I liked the voices, and I never complained about censorship I didn't know existed or stupid lines. And I do go back and find it, while okay, not as good as I remembered it. So you are right there. But then season 3 happened, and, though I still watched and enjoyed it because I wanted to see more DBZ, that was the beginning of the end for me. Even at 13 years old, I recognized that this was a shocking downgrade in quality. With the sole exception of the level of censorship and the end of huge cuts, everything was suddenly amateurishly worse. The music was worse (in my opinion). The acting was laughably pathetic. The writing was ridiculously inane. And even as a kid I knew that and was put off by it. And it wasn't just a case of it being different and me not being able to cope. And it wasn't a case of me being aware of the Japanese version. In fact, it would be months after that season ended that I finally got into sites like Planet Namek and DBZ Uncensored and finally got my hands on the subbed Movie 3. It was just bad in and of its own (lack of) merits, regardless of age, regardless of perspective.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Mmmm.......pretty much everything I didn't like about it has been covered already in this thread and in other threads. There is one observation I'd like to make, though. While it is true that we have some older fans here who were familiar with the Japanese version before the dub began, most of us learned about the Japanese version after having been introduced to DBZ through the English dub...and we had no problem with the dub until seeing all the changes that were made. I think it would also be fair to say that most--not all--but most of us who are complaining about the DBZ dub now loved it when we were kids. Not trying to make a point, just making an observation.
Not to say your point is invalid, as I know that there are a lot of fans who do fit the bill as you describe it, particularly those who started a bit later with the "new" FUNimation/missed the jarring changeover.

Re: Anything that You Guys Didn't Like in the DBZ Dub
I didn't particularly like how there was absolutely nothing to anchor the Faulconer score into a cohesive unit, thereby resulting in a horrible mishmash whenever the focus cut to a different character. It doesn't help that a lot of the tracks are so mind numbingly bad.
