25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
Let's assume that Babidi wasn't trying to revive Buu around this time. He didn't control Spopovich or Yamu, Videl isn't beaten within an inch of her life, Gohan's energy is not stolen, Kaioshin and Kibito aren't present, and nobody abandons the tournament to go stop Babidi's plan.
How do you think the rest of the tournament would have played out?

Re: 25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
If the Saiyans stick to their "no Super Saiyan" rule, then Piccolo wins the tournament. He either gives the prize money to Gohan's family or donates it to charity like in Shin Budokai 2.

Re: 25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
I can see that deal maybe being broken during Goku and Vegeta's match. If Goku won he'd stick to the rule for the rest of the tournament. If Vegeta won he might honour the rule even if it cost him the match with 18, since he already got his win against Goku, but he'd be more likely to come close to losing to her, get pissed off, and go Super anyway. So I can see the tournament going to Piccolo or Vegeta.Kaboom wrote:If the Saiyans stick to their "no Super Saiyan" rule, then Piccolo wins the tournament. Unless, of course, Mr Satan's four opponents fall victim to four separate misfortunes and are unable to fight. But that would never happen. Two misfortunes, that's possible. Three misfortunes, there's an outside chance. But four misfortunes? I'd like to see that!

Re: 25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
I can imagine Gokuu and Vegeta going all out in their match up. It's the only chance they have to go all out and prove whose the strongest. I feel though, the fight may continue outside the tournament, so both would be disqualified.

Re: 25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
I don't think that Vegeta, at least, would've really stuck to the "no Super Saiyan" rule, despite his arrogant handwaving of the proposal. He was desperate to fight Gokuu at full-power.
So, of course, all the super-warriors (including Videl and "Mighty Mask") would win their respective first matches, with the exception of #18, who'd bribe Mr. Satan as usual to give him his money in exchange for throwing the fight, and Vegeta, who'd eventually lose to Gokuu in a drawn-out Super Saiyan 2 clash. Piccolo would defeat Kuririn, Gohan would reluctantly and swiftly defeat Videl, Gokuu would defeat Mr. Satan, and "Mighty Mask" would defeat Jewel.
Then, to the semi-finals. Gohan, still not wanting to transform into a Super Saiyan to hide his true identity from his classmates, would lose against Piccolo. Gokuu (as well as the others) would figure out that "Mighty Mask" is just Goten and Trunks in disguise once they transform into a Super Saiyan, and to ensure his win, he'd transform too, figuring that there's no need to stick to the "no Super Saiyan", after he, Vegeta, Goten and Trunks already used it before. Gokuu would defeat the boys after a good fight without exposing them, as he wouldn't be threatened by their power, unlike #18.
I guess, to decide who came third, fourth and fifth, the losers of the semi-finals and second rounds would duel it out. So Gohan, still not wanting to use SS (he only participated because Videl blackmailed him and then to see Gokuu again anyway), would lose against Mighty Mask (who would be fine with using SS, even moreso underneath their disguise). So Mighty Mask gets third place, while Gohan gets fourth place. Then...I dunno...Kuririn fights Videl, Satan fights Vegeta, and some Earthling fights another...Earthling? (Toriyama didn't explain this well, but I guess he didn't need to, since he was planning on having the gang abandon the tournament anyway.) Kuririn wins against Videl, while Vegeta wins against Satan, and then Vegeta wins against Kuririn. So Vegeta gets fifth place...I guess.
In the final, Gokuu would transform into a Super Saiyan and defeat Piccolo after another good fight. So, if Gokuu came first, Piccolo came second, "Mighty Mask" came third, Gohan came fourth, and Vegeta came fifth...Gokuu gets 10 million zeni, Piccolo gets 5, "Mighty Mask" gets 3, Gohan gets 2, and Vegeta gets 1. Since Goten and Trunks would split their money in half, and Piccolo, having no need for money, would give his to the Sons, the Son family would receive 18.5 million zeni, if I've done my maths right. Vegeta and Trunks take home 2.5 million zeni, to contribute to yet another one of Blooma and/or Dr. Brief's new inventions, or to upgrade the gravity room.
Wow, I thought about that way too much. But another good talking point would be: how would the 28th Tenkaichi Budoukai have played out if Oob didn't exist, and Gokuu and co. entered anyway?

For the 28th TB, does anyone know the match ups? I can't seem to find a chart for it and I don't have access to my Dragon Boxes to check.

Fight #1: Pan Vs Mo KekkoInsertclevername wrote:For the 28th TB, does anyone know the match ups? I can't seem to find a chart for it and I don't have access to my Dragon Boxes to check.
Fight #2: Son Goku Vs Oob
Fight #3: Captain Chicken Vs Killerno
Fight #4: Mister Boo Vs Son Goten
Fight #5: Trunks Vs Otokosuki
Fight #6: Knock Vs Vegeta
Even supposing that Goku didn't take off with Oob... we've already seen or can clearly see the outcomes of some of these first-round matchups from the manga. But where it'd go from there would be interesting to speculate about.

Re: 25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
Thanks for the chart!
Okay...
Round 1
Fight #1: Pan Vs Mo Kekko
Fight #2: Son Goku Vs Oob (or random human)
Fight #3: Captain Chicken Vs Killerno (Captain Chicken looked more promising....wait! what did I just say!?)
Fight #4: Mister Boo Vs Son Goten (Goten wins...for some reason)
Fight #5: Trunks Vs Otokosuki (Trunks wins)
Fight #6: Knock Vs Vegeta (Vegeta by default)
Round 2
Fight #1: Pan Vs. Gokuu ( I feel Gokuu would lose this, not by strength but by him doing something really silly, ending with a ringout. He would hold back during this too.)
Fight #2: Son Goten vs. Captain Chicken (Son Goten wins)
Fight #3:Trunks vs. Vegeta ( Vegeta wins due to superior skill over Trunk, they would fight either in base or SSJ 1 anyway, so strength is no real concern.)
Round 3
Fight #1: Pan Vs. Son Goten ( Pan wins from what I can assume is Goten holding back. He most likely just lowered his BP and let her win)
Fight #2: (Vegeta waits for finals)
Round 4
Final Fight: Pan vs. Vegeta (I'm going to say Vegeta just would forfeit. By this time he is kind of nice and he has no real incentive to fight a 3 year old, so why bother. It's not like he needs money anyway)
Round 5
True Final fight: Mister Satan vs. Pan (Mister Satan, just to be nice, lets his grand daughter win, this doesn't affect his reputation as everyone understands and praises him for being such a good grandfather.)

There was actually a clip in the Anime where Goten was getting smacked around by Pan in the finals, meaning he somehow found a way to beat Buu...

If I remember right, there's a sign up reading "tournament cancelled" during all that, so maybe they were just goofing around. In Brightest Day wrote:There was actually a clip in the Anime where Goten was getting smacked around by Pan in the finals, meaning he somehow found a way to beat Buu...

Re: 25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
Wait....are you being sarcastic? lol I can't really tell on the web. If so, I know about that picture with Pan smacking around Goten. You can totally argue that he just lowered his BP to her level, didn't take the fight seriously at all, and was taken off guard by how surprisingly brutal Pan was. Sounds like a classic Dragon Ball moment!
As for a possibility of Goten beating Boo, maybe he begged and pleaded with him....perhaps bribed him. Or maybe Boo just didn't really give a shit and Goten just won out of luck. (or Goten has SSJ2 and could put up a good fight...)

I like to think that Boo got hungry and forfeited so he could go get something to eat. After all, he would know he doesn't HAVE to stay in the tournament, since the other heroes are just as willing as he is to let Mister Satan win.Insertclevername wrote:As for a possibility of Goten beating Boo, maybe he begged and pleaded with him....perhaps bribed him. Yeah, that's more concrete. It's probably the only way we can justify Goten getting by.Kaboom wrote:I like to think that Boo got hungry and forfeited so he could go get something to eat. Come to think of it, this must be the most lamest Tenkaichi Budokai ever! Every random person is too weak to provide any sort of challenge, outside of Oob, and every just let Pan win.

At the 28th, the match-ups could have ended differently without Buu's tampering.

I get the feeling that Piccolo wouldn't win the 25th. I think he'd lower his battle power to the Saiyans' base levels instead of just going LOL MY BASE POWER IS HIGHER and steamrolling them.
Otherwise, what the fuck would be the point in him entering? I can't see him enjoying that at all and he certainly doesn't want the money or the recognition.

Re: 25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
I kind of disagree. Goten doesn't have to beat Boo per say, he would only have to force a ring out which would allow him to move onto the next round. Taking advantage of the ring-out rule I'm sure Goten could come up with a plan to trick Boo or catch him off guard and then knock him out of the ring.Insertclevername wrote:Yeah, that's more concrete. Re: 25th TB, Babidi not revivng Buu
Unless Goten literally convinces Buu to let him win like Mr. Satan, I don't see how he's going to make Buu even flinch.
My understanding of "holding back" is that the stronger fighter holds back so that the weaker foe can keep up without getting killed or seriously injured. So, would anyone even be able to hurt Piccolo in that case?I get the feeling that Piccolo wouldn't win the 25th. But he can lower his battle power down to their level, which is the only way he'd get any actual enjoyment out of the fights. In Brightest Day wrote:

I get the feeling that Piccolo would get ticked off and request they transform, otherwise he would probably just take off like he did in Movie 9.
