Packaging for the US Release of the Dragon Boxes

Post by Alpha_Flight » Wed Oct 31, 2012 12:30 pm

Hey guys,

So I recently picked up Dragon Boxes 1,3,4,5,6 and 7 from my local comic shop (For $350.00, which I thought was great) and Dragon Box 2 from Ebay (Which was $300.00 - Still not too bad I reckon).

I wanted to keep them sealed for a collectors item more than something to watch, as I have all of the Orange Bricks that I have watched already.

Questions is, how did you all find the quality of the packaging for the Dragon Boxes? I remember I took back a couple of the Orange Bricks to Walmart due to broken disc holder teeth and loose discs etc., so I'm a little leary as to just leaving the Dragon Boxes sealed without being inspected. Nothing sounds loose if I rotate the boxes around and the packages are all mint with no damaged corners etc.

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

Cheers!

You don't think $300.00 for some DragonBall Z episodes is bad? I think that's terrible! But I guess, like you said you're not really buying it to watch. I suppose if you're buying it as a collectors item... eh, I still don't know... I mean I get it. But, it all just seems really stupid to me.

The truth of the matter is, you really won't know. You said you rotated the boxes around and nothing sounded out of place. That should be a good sign.

None of the actual disc holders were broken on mine, but the plastic did have a crack in one of the boxes:

I also had an issue with a little plastic nub under the disc not being cut all the way, so it scratched the disc. However, the second copy I got to replace it was totally fine.

Well compared to what some sell and how rare it is, I thought it was all right. Plus, it is brand new and sealed.

Maybe I'll open them to check lol.

Packaging = OK (some of the boxes were notably done in a rush so not exactly was the condition at its best)
Gluing = Mediocre/OK (they didn't even bother gluing all of it properly)
Stack of Discs = OK (see ricecake's photos for example)

Overall it's an OK condition. 2/5.

Not very happy with the packaging of the FUNimation Dragon Boxes Z so a while ago I thought of putting the discs in a case where they had all their own set of disc placement (like on DBGT Complete Series -- Green Brick) but never got a response back about the product to purchase.

My Dragon box Vol. 6 I ordered on Amazon came with a crease in the packaging at the top, the discs were perfect though (vol.7 was fine)

I was able to get all 7 boxes with no issues. The outside boxes themselves are a little roughed on the corners, (from going from the U.S. to the U.K. to Portugal, so I kinda expected it) but all the discs are clean and work great and nothing is damaged. (Hell, my Box 7 is even the same size as the others lol)

Really does come down to luck. If you're really set on keeping them sealed and have access to the equipment, I'd recomend opening them to inspect everything and seal them again.

I've bought all of mine from Amazon and they all have something wrong with the outside box. I don't know if it's Amazon or just how cheaply they were made. I'm still happy with them but I just have to ignore some of it's blemishes.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

A couple of my Dragon Boxes have outside damage to the corners, namely my Dragon Box 2. The seller I received it from claimed it was "mint". The auction only had one iphone picture of the DB2 and it was the only new and sealed one on Evilbay so I pulled the trigger (Wouldn't normally have done so, but the price was in line and I had been searching for a sealed copy for a while).

The seller bubble wrapped it well enough, but my DB2 came with banged up corners (Where the go all white) and the shrink wrap looked like a cat clawed it up :( Mint... ya right.

Blamed it on the shipping, but something bubble wrapped in two layers with a ton around it would not have incurred damage from shipping, so obviously it was shipped that way. So yes, unfortuantely sometimes you just have to settle with blemishes and surface damage due to the rarity of these box sets. My DB4 has a smushed corner, but all the others are minty fresh.

I suppose I should open them to see if the discs are OK, although I'm sure they are.

P.S. dragondyle: I'm sure that is just Amazon lol. Eeevveerrryy time I get a shipment from them, a few of my comics or movies have damage, then I have to return them etc. A pain. Amazon is cheap and convenient, but their packing department is the worst on the planet. Saying that, the last order I received a couple weeks ago had one piece of crumpled paper around it, so I was lucky they even did that haha.

I don't understand why you would buy them as collector's items and then open them. Just leave them as is.

On a sie not, boy am I glad I bought the Dragon Boxes as they were coming out. I paid way under $300 for all seven!

Wow, I just did the math at my set came to just under $300 as well... even with the lousy Australian dollar at that point.
