That's my biggest fear.
This could be a problem making a kids show even with less violence than it already has.

I'm fine with Martin in the role, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone else take a crack at it either. Dunno about Greg Ayres though.

They've kept Martin for all the recent games though, haven't they? Or was that just a case of re-using old game audio? And as far as different voices for all of Boo's forms when they didn't with Freeza and Cell, I think it's just due to the more drastic differences between each of Boo's forms.

The different Boos all have completely different voices and personalities. I don't think it's much of a problem for them to have different voice actors.

I'm fine with Josh Martian but Greg Ayers would be a great replacement. Also I'm REALLY hoping for a new opening, but I've got a feeling Toei will be cheep bastards and just reuse Dragon Soul.

They could do a new animated version of WE GOTTA POWER like it happened on the 2008 Special.

Dragon Soul has been overused and time to give it some rest (/imo). WGP didn't feel like it gotten too repetitive but then again it was only for episodes 200-291.

Most likely due to that each form is really it's own character and personality that seperates it from the others.

Fat Buu, who is the more innocent and childlike, Evil - Buuhan is the more evil, intelligent and cunning to Kid Buu who is actually a childlike creature but super deadly.

I find the voices given to them all fit them well enough.

Save that for a rainy day. I think Kageyama should collab a new song with Takayoshi IMO, but I'll see the day whenever AKB48 records a new Buu ending. However, its like GT using one opening song (2 animations) and four ending animation songs.

This should go to the new movie. We need a new song for Boo arc in DBKai.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I don't see any reason for them to do a new theme song. We'd be lucky to get new animation for the entire opening, if any at all. We could see a new ending theme, though, probably from Tanimoto.

Well before the whole Kai series got cancelled last year, I personally had thought that Chris Cason would make an excellent recast as Fat Buu, given that he'd use a similar voice and direction as he did with Gluttony from Fullmetal Alchemist & FMA: Brotherhood. To me, his Gluttony voice sounds pretty similar to how Kōzō Shioya portrayed Majin Buu, so I thought he would make a great recast. However, I'm fine if they stick with Josh Martin so long as he tones down the "annoying factor" that sometimes plagued the first dub.

While I agree that Toei is cheap (it's obvious from Kai as a whole), I think even Toei would realize that having new opening animation would be essential given that the recycled animation wouldn't fit in with the Buu arc. Maybe they'll just insert a few new animated segments like Majin Vegeta and Dabura into their Kai OP animation "template" they seemed to use throughout the series (retaining the Saibaimen and all). It seems to make sense to me.

This discussions regarding censoring and various American companies funding it does worry me. When I think of Saban I think of power rangers and the initial dub-only (heavily censored) version of DBZ, so I don't see them as a beneficial force for an uncensored version. Overzealous localizations of anime be damned. They have probably been involved with other properties since then so I'm a bit out of the loop.

I hope that TOEI makes a uncensored Japanese version to be used as a reference. Then other countries can do whatever they want with that version.

If FUNi dubs it I hope that they fix fat Buu's voice. Way to shrill and over-the-top. I want Kyle Herbert as teen Gohan again.

I'd see Dragon Soul being used as the opening theme, but with new animation accompanying it, like we saw throughout the Saiyan-Cell Games arcs.

I'm hoping for a totally new ending theme, though, to go along with Yeah! Break! (which corresponds to the Saiyan-Freeza arcs) and Wings of the Heart (Androids/Cell arc).

Totally agree. I watched the Japanese voice and thought it was similar until he got serious. I was dumbfounded. He just went serious and creeped me out. All I could think was "holy shit when did Boo get terrifying." I hope someone plays the terrifying side of Fat Boo. I never saw it until I watched the Japanese scene. I only understood him as some dumb child and never saw why he was scary outside his massive power. The Japanese version showed both sides perfectly.

This is actually the first time in a LONG time I've been psyched about something regarding Dragon Ball. Looks like I'll have to start buying the Kai DVDs now.

It's times like this I wish I didn't care about the original series. Voice inconsistencies....blargh. Well hell as long as outlandish stuff is going on hey Funi...go redub Dragon Ball.

Edit:
And GT, and the movies...and the TV specials.

I really don't see the problem with Josh Martin's Fat Buu. It's over the top because Buu himself is over the top. We have a fat pink monster with a childlike personality. I think that a shrill voice works just as well for Buu as Nozawa's shrill screaming works well for the childlike Goku.

Think of it as Josh only got one side of Boo. The Japanese voice actor showed how Boo could be terrifying through his voice, while Josh didn't. He always spoke like a gentle child until he got serious. Josh still sounded childish when serious. He was like how Heath Ledger portrayed Joker, he leaned a lot more on one side of the character then both. Josh didn't quite hit the balance.

Because it's a flanderization of Boo's character. He's not a brain-damaged child, he's fat jolly guy who had been force to kill since his creation and didn't know any other ways until Mister Satan showed him how much more to life there is. And Fat Boo isn't really that child-like. Heck, I consider Fat Boo to be more mature than Goku.

Not to mention, I could never take Martin's, or McNeil's, Fat Boo seriously when he was evil or good.

If this is being created for an overseas market, does that also mean it's being edited for an overseas market? Eh, probably not, and here's why. If Toei already has the episodes in Japanese, they might as well just slap them on a DVD and make some money on it. If they heavily censored these episodes then they're just shooting themselves in the foot because they probably wouldn't sell very well.

I think the trend of editing flashing lights will continue, but I don't think they'll edit it for violence more than they did previously.

But hey, it's just a thought. I could totally be wrong!

I think for normal dialogue Fat Buu doesn't need to be so shrill and crazy-sounding -- it should be toned down in my opinion. His original English voice (FUNimation) annoys me. Most of that is probably a result of how they directed the Z dub.

If FUNi applies their original Kai formula to this new dub, assuming that they get to do it, then I encourage any changes to Fat Buu.

Please understand. Saban will actually give lots of love to Digimon. More than any other company.
For ages I'm waiting for a Japanese audio + English sub DVD release but all it exists is with the freaking English dub. Great for those that like Digimon's English dub, but I watched it in Japanese w/subs.

The best episode of Digimon for me was the one that had Gutsumon and his friend being killed by Devilmon and then Yamato had a Gohan SSJ2 moment. Epic. Sadly Devilmon escaped, I think.
You mean Vamdemon, he killed Gotsumon & Pumpmon. Devimon was the first enemy they fought that Angemon killed. Now back on topic I am so excited for the Buu arc in Kai.
