Is Infinite world worth the $20 when you've beaten B3?

Post by Jord » Thu Nov 08, 2012 10:29 am

I already beat Budokai 3, except for getting some capsules that I don't care about. Recently, I saw IW in a local video game store, new, for $20 but I was wondering if it's worth the purchase. To me, it looks more like an expansion pack with some GT characters and minigames in the story mode and a slightly different combat system.

So, to the people who have also completed B3, is it worth the $20?

If you loved the Budokai music from all games you'll adore the 'Best of Budokai' in this game.

Cutscenes are a great addition too, plus the mini-games.

But I've not yet played B3, so that question will be reserved for those that have.

I think it's worth that price. I bought it when it came out for the full price and I still think it was worth every penny. Maybe the game modes were better in Budokai 3, but the fighting system has improved a lot. There's more variety between characters, and thanks to that, the game is even more enjoyable. It's also a lot more difficult - beating some missions in story mode is really challenging.

You'll actually find the game quite challenging too, as the AI and difficulty curve are much harsher this iteration. You'll have to make good use of your capsules in IW without a doubt, because even on Easy, the AI is very aggressive and will try to K.O. you in 15 seconds. There's no more Dragon Rush in IW, so you'll have to use combos, a good defense, and strategy. Personally, I like the single player mode way more than B3's (it's a mix of B1's cutscenes and B2's board game mode, with a variety in mini-games, and opponent A.I.)

If you want a refined version of Budokai 3's gameplay, IW's your game. IMO, I would've liked to have seen an "HD Collection" of Infinite World/Super DBZ with online play since they have arguably the best fighting mechanics out of all the DBZ games, but I know they were no where near as popular as the Budokai series.

I'd say it's worth it. I absolutely love Infinite World. After the Budokai series ended, I was a pro at it and IW up the difficulty and was perfect for what I wanted: a Budokai challenge. I payed full price of $30 for it when it came out, lol.

Thanks for your advice everyone.

I bought the game, played a few hours and I'm not disappointed. It really plays like a different version of B3 but I like it. What I don't like howeveris how the game just throws you into the action without even explaining the different fighting mechanics. You only get to access those training stages AFTER beating Raditz and boy, this is the toughest Raditz I've ever encountered. I play the game on normal but it's pretty hard. Nothing wrong with a bit of a challenge though.
What I didn't like was how you need to unlock everry character again. I was hoping for some GT vs action right of the bat but apparently I have to finish story mode first.

I like the minigames even though, just like the battles, you're given no explanation on the controlls. I had a hard time on the first one where you have to collect the circles just because I didn't know that you could boost using O.

As dbboxkaifan mentioned, the music is great. I really like like the new pieces they wrote and the remaining music sounds great as always. The graphics are more or less the same as B3 which is fine with me. The cutscenes in story mode look pretty good.

Overall, I like how the game plays and looks but a bit more explanation would help. The manual doesn't even list the controlls. What a waste of paper.

I believe the story mode map has a control list available if you just press one of the buttons. I'm not entirely sure, though. It's been years since I played IW.

Just to give you a tip, anytime you get a health capsule, equip it. You will need it by the final stages of the game. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it, anyway!

Thanks for the advice. I have just beaten Frieza and it's still pretty hard. I just learned of leveling up your attacks which is a cool feature and I've just bought the second Fighters Body capsule, which increases your health. You are right in that you really need them. It was so frustrating to lose to Frieza and co. when starting with a health disadvantage.
