I tweeted Kyle Hebert and asked him to fight for the line "Over here, you retard", I say everyone who wants that line to be in English Kai do the same and maybe we will get it.

It doesn't matter to me. I totally understand why they wouldn't include it. I don't think there should be a fight to have that line in the dub. Is it really that important? I don't even recall this line until you brought it up.

It's there, it's when Gohan is beating the hell out of Buu, and he taps Buu on the shoulder and says "Over here, you retard." I think in the english dub he says, "Nice day?" I had to dig for the image here and found it after we watched it the other night.

Well, all three of those work really well in context, and none of them will brew up a shitstorm.

So yeah, you can use "retard", which is very purposefully out-of-character for Gohan, or you can use "idiot", "moron", or "dumbass", which mean generally the same thing (especially in an English context), and are also very purposefully out-of-character for Gohan, as well as less likely to offend people.

What Ultimate Gohan said in Japanese was 'usunoro (薄鈍)' which translates to stupid, idiot, simpleton, fool or even retard. Kei17 or someone else can confirm, or just listen closely and you'll hear it's usunoro.

I think Mr. Simmons exaggerated in using 'retard' for Ultimate Gohan, Gohan isn't the type of guy that calls someone such a demeaning thing, even though Buu is a retard or just really slow and childlike.

FUNimation/Westwood ('Ocean Dub' if you prefer) both had a similar dialogue of "Hi, nice day". What the flying f!%$?!

I thought the point of Kai was to improve the pacing, not make it a "new" show.

The point of Kai was to refresh DBZ. Adding a musical score from the 80's/90's in 2009-2013 doesn't really refresh the show.

Wasn't Toei constantly advertising it as a "true to manga Toriyama cut" or something though? Also, Kai doesn't just mean "refreshed", it could also be translated as "revised", which would be true due to the reediting.

They remastered the image, removed all the grain, converted the video to 1080p HD, reanimated some scenes, made new opening & ending animation and themes, new eye-catches, new music score, new sound effects, re-dubed it, it even received a new title. The only old that remained in it was the animation & the story. Yet the old music fits better? Nah, not in my opinion.

Well, Westwood did a lot of their scripting based on Funimation's script. Most of the dialogue is literally identical.

As for Piccolo and company being shocked, you could also chalk it up to Gohan acting so out-of-character.

Well there is 7 years of his life that we never get to see. And it might be a dub/filler only thing but didn't the Son family have a TV? If so then he could have learnt the word from there.

I'm slightly exaggerating but I was a little disappointed in the uncut dub's choice to curse so often. I know they're technically the correct translation ("kisou!" is pretty much "crap" or "shit", right?) idea but as has been said before the words have a different and less-taboo context in Japanese. I would have liked to see them try to adapt the lines in a fashion that would represent the frustration that comes with profanity but without using it. I'm sure I'm near-alone on this one, though.

I agree with SaiyamanMS on this one, I believe "dick head" is the best term to use since it has the harshness factor of the original and it is also a funny nod to the fact that the thing on his head looks like a penis.

On Raging Blast 2 I remember English Gohan saying "You idiot" to Buu, so it works out. =)

I've always thought Darn was the lazy cop-out. "Blast you" or just "why, you... !" always seemed like it would work better to me. Again, I'm sure I'm in the minority haha.
