I've never found it hard to take Sean Schemmel's King Kai voice seriously when need be. As for Reacoom his voice may sound a bit like a disabled person but IMO there is nothing in the actual delivery to suggest he's slow. IMO he sounds like a cocky bastard that get's excited at the thought of beating the crap out of someone. That's why I like Chris Sabat as Reacoom so much, the tone he uses matches Reacoom's size an appearance while his delivery matches his personality.

Just thought, with Chris Ayres' Frieza, I wonder if anyone wanted either Zarbon, Dodoria, or the Ginyu Force to address him as "Your Lordship"?

Please. Sabat's Recoome continues to sound like he should be wearing a hockey helmet and mittens pinned to his sleeves. And Kaio should add weight to the things he says. It's impossible for me to take anything he says with any amount of seriousness. There's no gravity at all, he just sounds like a complete comic relief character. Hell, in the Japanese version, it's the same guy as the Narrator (as well as Dr. Brief)! He should speak with authority, not sound like some random comic relief.

The victim of violent head trauma as an infant [...] he's a simple bumpkin with a fair share of brain damage who's natural talents to work out what's wrong compensate for his broad lack of common sense. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Besides some of the video games Sabat's Recoom barely sounds mentally challenged when it comes to his manner of speaking. Saying he sounds disabled because of his voice is like saying Bardok and Tullece sound like little kids because of the pitch of their voices and his original Japanese VA didn't sound like a college professor either. As for King Kai, Sean Schemmel usually puts the right emotion into his performance when need be. What's he supposed to do? Suddenly make his voice deep every time there's a serious moment? I'm starting to think a lot of people who bash the dub only watch a few random clips (mostly from the original season 3 dub).

Cranz's Chi Chi can be funny when she's in hysteria-mode and in Kai, she can sound calm enough. In Z, I believe the problems had to do with the script and her portraying the character back then. I think she got better though not entirely.

Nah. I thought Season 4 was crap, too. If it makes you feel any better, I really really like the Kai dub and most of my problems with the previous dub have to do with script. Now, excuse me while I go light my ceremonial candles on my "Ocean Dub" DBZ Movies 1-3 altar so I can sacrifice a few color pages of the manga to appease the Canadian Dubbing Gods..

I agree for the most part. I don't mind Kaio, but he is sometimes hard to take seriously with dat voice. Recoome is just plain ridiculous. He really should have been changed. The Ocean version was way better on that one.

At first yes I was. Being one of those blind original funi dub fans that was like "Only Faulconer", I disliked the change but as time went by I really grew to appreciate the new cast as well as Yamamoto's and Kikuchi's score along with the original Japanese voice cast. I really like the new Frieza. Colleen is also waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy better than Nadolny get mad fanboys 8) .

I was once like that as well. Unlike most blind funi fans, I sat down and let the new dub sink in. It ain't easy accepting changes to your childhood. It took me a while till I realized why Kai was so good and the eng dub of z was pretty bad.
