...Didn't he just say that Nozawa makes his ears bleed? That's really just saying that he doesn't like the performance their actress gives them, that doesn't insult the fans. It's one thing to dislike something, but the way you put it insults the people who like Goku ad Bardocks voice.

Creepy, I remember watching the Japanese ovas, and when he was like 'Kakarotto' it sounded so grim and scary that I decided to copy it.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

Re: Why is Bardock's voice high pitched in Japanese?
I've never studied Japanese, and even I can tell the differences Nozawa makes between her interpretations of the characters she voices.
Bardork looked exactly like Goku, so why wouldn't they have a similar voice? Are you telling me that when Goku hit his head, his voice changed too? If Goku had not hit his head, and had grown as a Saiyajin, I imagine he'd sound like a barbaric and tough warrior ...with a high-pitched voice, just like Bardock, wouldn't he?
It's perfectly fine if you don't like the voice of Bardock, and if you'd prefer a low-pitched voice for him, then that's fine also. But like many have said, the child-like quality of the voice comes from the interpretaion, the nuances, and other things, not from how high or low the pitch of a voice is.
I found the voice of Bardock, quite serious and chilling in a way. For him to sound so much like Goku, but to have some very crucial differences, that sold the character for me. Even in the Latin-American dub, which was how I watched Dragon Ball, Bardock and Goku were voiced by the same person. While Goku had a playfulness on his voice, Bardock didn't, and while they did have the same voice, it was the differences that made them clearly into separate characters.

Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...

So, by that logic, you're saying that Chris Sabat could do a good job as young Trunks if his performance was appropriate?VegettoEX wrote:...I don't feel the pitch really has any relevance.

Sure. He pulled off a young Vegeta, didn't he? Acting is acting.

I don't know whether or not you're joking, but IIRC, Chris Sabat's kid Vegeta in the Bardock special was god-awful. Laura Bailey's kid Vegeta was much better (as well as lacking that horrible rasp) in that hallucination of Gokuu's during the Freeza arc of Dragon Ball Z Kai.VegettoEX wrote:Sure. All low-class Saiyan warriors sound like Masako Nozawa.
Raditz only sounded different because a birth defect.

Takeshi Kusao pulls of a grown Trunks and a child Trunks just fine. I'm not at all "in the know" when it comes to english dubbing, but I see a constant theme of "younger boy played by woman" (not always to the product's benefit) instead of "finding good actor to do both". When it comes to anime, anyway.

I find Takeshi's Child Trunks unfitting and practically unbearable to listen to. Probably the worst voice in all of the Japanese version IMO.

I don't have a problem with Sabat as Kid Vegeta since he does get the arrogant jerk tone while trying to make him sound different from his adult Vegeta voice despite it sounding a bit silly.Piccolo Daimao wrote:I don't know whether or not you're joking, but IIRC, Chris Sabat's kid Vegeta in the Bardock special was god-awful. Everytime I hear an Adult Son yell, they sound the same. Whether it's Goku, Bardock, Gohan (I forgot how Adult Goten sounds) they sound the same. When they speak normally I hear some difference (though minor), but during battle it aggravates me how they sound the same.

Kusao's child Trunks is perfect. Its rougher, more mature sound helps to establish how more together he is compared to Goten. It reflects that he is the dominant one in their friendship. Trunks is precocious, whereas Goten is a typical child, very flakey.

Goten seemed like a tool. Trunks would decide something and Goten would just do it.penguintruth wrote:Kusao's child Trunks is perfect. Well since we're on the topic of voice acting, does anyone who made that deep pitched scream as Goku transformed Super Saiyan for the first time?

I've read that it was Captain Ginyu's VA, but wasn't it just Nozawa's voiced toned down electronically?

I've read that Hori Hideyuki rumor before, too. He is credited as voicing Gi'nyuu for the episode, so maybe he did?
