Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Haven't really kept on things but thought I'd ask, when this gets over here to the States, would you rather it still have Funimation's cast or be cast with big name celebs? (Know the former is more likely but thought I'd ask).

Definitely the FUNi cast, and if for some reason it couldn't be them, I'd want some more actual voice actors over the casting of 'celebrities' for celebrity's sake.

I'd want them to stick with the Funi cast as well. It just won't be the same without them, they've had those rolls for 10 years now and even with the multiple english versions of the show it's hard to picture an english production without them.

If it isn't the usual suspects, DBZ (dub) fans will riot. You saw what happened with the Kai dub. Even changing VAs for characters that needed it caused dissent.

Nobody wants to hear Freddy Prinze Jr. as Goku, anyway. Or John Ratzenberger as Mr. Satan (then again...).

Why do you think that there will be big name actors in this movie? This movie is likely not going to have a major release in the US, they are likely going to have the Kai voice cast. They have been using the Kai voice cast since 2010.

It's looks like the site's Demon Guide might need some updating soon. We got Bils the "hakaishin" (does this count?) and Whis, a potential makaioshin?

While Whis' ears don't fit for what I've seen from the DBO makaioshin (well, inferred makaioshin since earlier in the thread I read that no one came out and said that Towa is or isn't one), the white hair and blue skin definitely fit that theory.

I'd like it if Whis does turn out to be a makaioshin; Toriyama's back-history of them reads as though it was something he was enthusiastic about coming up with.


It would be nice if we were to get either a "prologue" anime episode-special or manga chapter lead-in to this movie like OPZ is getting.

Yeah, One Piece is getting four episodes throughout December to promote One Piece Film Z. It'd be awesome if Toei did four episodes for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods in March. Then again, I'm not sure where they would air them. Maybe in Toriko's timeslot?

Yup, four episodes (#426-429). With Tate Naoki, Oonishi Ryou, Nakatani Yukiko and Shida Naotoshi involved.

Tie-in manga chapter sounds wonderful (would want Toriyama to do it; I want to see what that new/current art style of his looks like in chapter-length format).

I really want that marketing blitz to happen; manga chapter + 4 lead-in episodes just like they're doing with One Piece. *_*

It would be amazing to get so much new content, and make for an incredible March.

Problem is, Dragon Ball Z as a series has already ended. One Piece can get away with tie-in episodes for it's more recent movies because it's still an on-going series. What you guys are suggesting is to have Toei create four new specials for Dragon Ball Z from scratch.

Although, despite my saying it likely won't happen because Dragon Ball Z's run has ended it's not entirely impossible. After all, Kai is airing the final portion of the series soon.

20th Century FOX is involved in this, after all.

Fox is help distributing the movie. We can stop assuming that they are going to have big name actors in this movie please. Why would there be in the first place? None of the Pokemon movies, the Digimon movie and Yu-Gi-Oh: The Movie had any big name stars. It would be a waste of money to have big name stars in this movie since it's likely not going to have a major release here in the US and no one in the US would see this movie outside the fanbase.
