Does anyone else have trouble reading the subtitles in Kai?

Post by Ringworm128 » Thu Dec 06, 2012 6:23 pm

I was wondering if anyone else sometimes finds it difficult to focus on the subtitles provided in Funimation's Blu Ray/DVD releases of DBK? I don't know if it's the font, the size of the text or something else but I find them harder to read then the subs provided in the Dragonboxes and the yellow subtitles you see in a lot of subbed work.

No, never.

The subs on Blu-ray looked great but FUNimation could opt to use other colours than just white every single damn time.

Same problem with all Funimation Blu-Rays.

They need to outline better.

And you can barely make out the episode titles on the menus of the Kai Blu-Rays because they're so small.

Look perfectly fine to me.

Can't say I've ever had a problem with it.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I think the newer Blu-rays (specifically, later seasons) have a bigger outline. Don't quote me on this though.

I have the part 4 DVD and the subtitles are large and easy to read.

Well, I have the part 5 Blu-Ray and the subtitles are shit.

Same thing with the subtitles on the FMA: B Blu-Rays, Summer Wars, and the Rebuild of Evangelion movies.

They need AnimEigo subs: http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc18 ... 1217887708

Hey, whatever is visible. AnimEigo's subtitles are the standard to me.

And no, it's not my vision, I've found other people with the same problem.

It's not just Funimation's, either. Bandai Entertainment's subtitles on The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya's Blu-Ray are pretty inscrutable, too.

Can't say I've checked the Kai subtitles specifically, but I didn't have a problem with the subtitle size or color on any other DB sets I've got, or the FMA Brotherhood sets for that matter.

That said though, I tend to watch things on my laptop, which is then pretty close, either on my lap or just in front of me. If I was watching these on a TV from a bigger distance...I can see maybe where they'd be kinda small.

Very likely. I have the same DVD and it's fine, but the subtitles on 2.22 on Blu-Ray are a bit more difficult to decipher.

Likewise, the Dragon Boxes and nearly all other Funimation DVDs I have, have fine, if not great, subtitles. The Dragon Box subtitles are especially easy to see and follow.

Maybe it's just my distance from the TV, which is usually less than 10 feet, but I can't say that I've ever had any difficulties making them out.
