Pictures of I met (insert the name) voice actor

Post by sangofe » Sat Dec 08, 2012 6:42 pm

Edit, can someone please move this? I didn't mean to post in the Kai section.

So, last week end I met Eric Legrand who is in my opinion the best voice actor for Vegeta in the world right after Ryo Hirokawa. Not only is a great voice actor, but he's awesome to talk to as well! But what pleasantly surprised me was the fact that he was genueliy happy to see when i showed up, and remember who I was! Granted, I had talked to him a few times on his facebook wall, but nothing more than that. He even remembered details like me being Norwegian!

We talked for at least half an hour. The really funny and amazing this was that we were sitting in this conference room, and he was on the row before, then suddenly he leans backwards and talks to me and my girl friend! He even talked to me and my girl friend in Swedish and felt pity for her having to be there (1: she doesn't talk french, and 2: she's not into anime, she was just coming along with me, and that on a surprise visit)! Funnily enough, he signed my DBZ Kai DVD box in Swedish as well. (For those who don't know -- Norwegians can understand Swedish almost flawlessly)

Here are my pictures. Please do share your similar experiences!

Image
Here's an extremely funny note he left at his signature stand. "I'm down with the flue so I've got a voice like a toad, and I'm half dead. Sorry!

Image
The signature says "For my friend Frank Einar Josep, "Final Flash from Vegeta" - Eric Legrand.

Image
Here's me and Eric.

Oh, the voice actress for Bulma was there as well.
I had already seen the voice actors for Vegeta and young Goku/Gohan in videos of such events, and also the one from Son Goku once, but I didn't think the voice actress for Bulma would show up!
(she's the voice actress for Julia Roberts, so basically, for people watching the French version, Bulma is voiced by Julia Roberts in person :)).

Did they talk a bit about Dragon Ball?
Any interesting questions/answers/quotes?

I've met a number of the English cast members over the years.

First up was Sean Schemmel in 2008 he signed my season 3 booklet and manga volume 16, followed up by Chris Sabat in 2009 who I had sign season 1 and the same volume 16 Schemmel signed, as well as some non-DB stuff.

In 2010, I met Vic Mignogna, Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham, who I sadly had no photo op with, however Vic signed the Broly films and volume 1 of FMA Brotherhood, Laura signed one of the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai singles and Fruits Basket and Travis signed One Piece Season 2 - 4th Voyage and one of the original FMA volumes.

Didn't see any DB related actors in 2011, but earlier this year I met Stephanie Nadolny who signed my Revenge of King Piccolo Instruction Manual. (And I also met Vic again and had him sign Ouran this time.)

Eric Legrand sounds like a cool guy! Isn't he the French voice actor for Seiya in "Saint Seiya," too?

Unfortunately, no pictures from me...not from lack of trying, though. Two words: broken camera. Rather unfortunate, as I got some good stuff at Ohayacon.

While I haven't had the chance to meet any DBZ voice actors, I would love to meet quite a few actors actually and that includes Funimation AND Ocean.

Hopefully 2013 will bring in some possibilities. Colleen Clinkenbeard did come to a con in NZ but it wasn't in my area :C.

I got Monica Rial's signature once.

But that was way before Kai. I was just a huge fan of her Hyatt from Excel Saga then, and she was signing FMA posters (first series, where she played Lyra) at Otakon.

Back then I had no idea she would be Bulma one day.

Tried to get J. Michael Tatum and Brina Palencia's autographs at this year's Otakon, but no luck. Even if you arrive super early to the sessions there's no guarantee you'll get an autograph.

I missed out on a chance to meet Mayumi Tanaka way back in 2002 because other anime took precedence. I still regret it.

I've never had an autograph from an official DB voice actor, but I did once get Little Kuriboh (Freeza's VA in DBZA) to sign my Dragonbox 3. EDIT 1128 posts, lol.

Ahh! Yes, I did infact also get a signature from LK at this year's Armageddon Expo.

They talked a lot about the dubbing process of Dragonball and the popularity of the series. I filmed most of the interesting questions, and might put videos up on my youtube.
And you're lucky to have met the voice actor for Goku... He's rarely at cons, is he? Double lol: I didn't care getting the autographs other than Eric's. I kinda regret now that Bulma's voice so well know. To be honest, I've just been such a fan of Eric Vegeta since I was a kid...

He is.

Here's him doing his Vegeta voice, by the way:

Oh, don't worry, it's just one of those lately cases of "I typed too quickly and didn't express myself correctly"!
I've never been to such a convention and saw them on Youtube videos of such cons! Saw that Vegeta and Gohan were often there, and Goku only in one vid (which is logical since you say he's rarely at cons).
Silly me has edited the original message to actually mean that! I do read my messages again before posting them, but I guess when it's too late, the mind's already sleeping!

Earlier this year I met Colleen Clinkenbeard during the Armageddon Expo in Christchurch. I didn't get any DB stuff signed but I got my One Piece Collection 1 and custom Straw Hat Pirates flag (intend on getting whole crew to do this) signed:

Duuuuuuude another Ohayoconer? Are you going this year?

The only DBZ VA's announced so far were Chris and Greg Ayres and Kyle Hebert, to keep this on-topic. :)

While it would indeed be very awesome to meet up with a fellow Kanzenshuuer, I live in Los Angeles now, so it wouldn't be practical for me to make the trip anymore. Thanks for askin' though, would've gladly met up, otherwise!

I met Toshio Furukawa (Japanese Piccolo) at Animazement 2012 in North Carolina. During his panel when he yelled out MAKANKOSAPO I wet myself a little. I recorded it and you can see him do it here at the 8 minute mark.

Toshio Furukawa Panel - Part 2

Look! He's holding my iphone and signed my Dragonbox! :D
Image

I also met Ryo Horikawa (Japanese Vegeta) at Kawaii-kon 2012 in Hawaii. It was very exciting because Chris Sabat was supposed to be there too and it would be the first time both American and Japanese Vegeta would be at a convention together. But Chris' flight got cancelled and he couldn't make it. I didn't really care much though because Ryo Horikawa was my main concern.

Image

There was a guest dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe where most of the guests came to have dinner with the fans. The ticket for this was $70 and Ryo Horikawa was not on the list of guests that would be there. But I decided to buy the ticket anyway. Well I guess since Chris Sabat couldn't make it, Ryo Horikawa himself showed up! I didn't get to sit at the table he was at though :( But I can still say that I had dinner right next to Vegeta! :P

You lucky bastard.

Toshio Furukawa is probably my favorite Japanese VA of all time. I mean, he was Piccolo, Kai Shiden, Asuma Shinohara, Olivier Poplan, Lupin III (once, anyway), Leon McNichol, and other great roles.

Why doesn't Furukawa go to a convention people actually go to, like Otakon?

I met Sean Schemmel, Chris Sabat, Vic Mignogna, and then there were the panels I was at which I can post a link to. I went to the Sean Schemmel and Jason Liebrecht panel at an animecon, and went to the Super DBZ panel with Chris Sabat, Mike Mcfarland, and Colleen Clinkenbeard

Super DBZ Panel

The panel is in parts so i'll post it if anyone wants to see it.

At Anime Boston 2012, I was lucky enough to get my Freeza figure signed by Chris Ayres! The people running the signing said not to waste time taking pictures, so my buddy snapped this one while I was in line.
