Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
The exploding hourglasses; they are fantastic. I hope they're just a hint at the magical powers Birusu and Uisu will show off.
I also want a more complex plot. I like that there's a possibility that this is a flip of the coin of how Kaio-sama kept telling Goku "Don't fight Freeza!" and then Goku fought Freeza anyway and won. Here, Goku loses. (Well, at least the first time) and depending on how long he's K.O.'d (or maybe trapped somewhere), Birusu and Uisu could cause some serious damage in the meantime. Especially coming off the heels of how bored Goku was during the 08 special; taking a dangerous chance and then having it not work out in his favor could turn out some dramatic "oh no what have I done?!" OP-level moments.
(Also, the movie-figurines make me hope to see something ridiculous to happen to Vegeta, because I enjoy his reactions to things like giant worms, and being slime'd, seeing the fusion dance for the first time and then having to perform it, receiving a pink shirt, grumpily stating he'd prefer he was dead to partaking in fusion and then being told by Goku of all people that he already is (dead), learning Goku was going to ask Bulma to do things with the old Kai in exchange for Gohan's power-up, finding out Gure is Table's wife, pretty much everything Goku put Vegeta through in the 2008 special, etc...)

Goku's outfit is battle damaged in the one scene of him floating across from Bils in space. I'm not saying he couldn't get new clothes before the final fight, but it just seems more likely that they'll only get torn up as part of the climax in order to raise the tension levels; "Goku's clothes are torn! Things are getting serious now!" =Pbleed0range wrote:Yeah I am kind of hoping there's more to it then just that too. I think the "goku in space" segment is actually their first fight and that is the one where Goku loses and the final fight scenes are not really shown.
I'm actually willing to be their first fight is on Kaio's, which is a pretty reasonable spot for their initial meeting. We see Goku introducing himself to the duo, and then later get a shot of SS3 Goku dashing across the planet's grass with the fun Afterlife sky in the background.

If my tiny-chance-of-happening, based-on-the-green-Pilaf-movie-toy and the blue-Pilaf-shown-in-the-trailer theory of Piccolo and Pilaf being body-swapped by Birusu or Uisu does happen, I have decided to call the body-swapped forms Piccolaf and Pilaffalo. :3

Not to forget the amount of times they have been in space in filler episodes and movies.

Sean Schemmel (English voice actor for Goku) has stated via his twitter account that he has not done any work on the new Dragon Ball Z movie (Battle of Gods) and states that he doesn’t have any information on whether or not they will dub this movie in the future. Here’s a quote:
I have done no work on the new feature and have no info on if we will be dubbing it or not.
He replied to this when he was asked about a certain fan made ''English dub'' of the Battle of Gods trailer that was recently created .

Of course not. The movie has not released in Japan yet. They will dub it after it's over in Japan. Not to mention they also haven't dub Kai yet.

Sorry buddy, but gag or not, it's something that happened within the manga and has been aknowledged various times after. Toriyama commented on Toninjinkas fate after the moon was blasted away. It's also something that as been mentioned in games. Like it or not, it did "canonically" happen.Kantico wrote: 2 - It's a fucking NON CANONICAL joke!!!!!!

Anyone else actually trying to avoid this thread and any news?
I wish this was 1999 and it was more difficult to find information, I don't want to spoil any more of this film for myself, I want it to feel like when Freeza survived the spirit bomb and killed Krillin and my mind was blown as a kid. However I get the feeling I'm going to know the entire plot of the film before I watch it, and even though I personally would prefer to watch a dubbed version for nostalgia, I know I'm going to have to watch it subbed (and probably in low quality) simply because otherwise I'll have to avoid the forums for a few months while a dub is cooked up.

That's an excellent observation that everyone agrees. Maybe this time, they will use this formula.Thanos wrote:I think the solution to the power-gap between the humans and Saiyans is simple--just have weaker minions doing work for the main villain... basically, expand upon the Saibaman/Cell Junior idea. That way, Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Kuririn, etc. can all have their moments of glory. The problem has always been that the minions were equal to the main heroes, eventually get outwitted and beaten up, then it's this big "YOU THOUGHT THE MINIONS WERE TOUGH? JUST WAIT UNTIL THE MAIN BADDIE FIGHTS!!" dramatic scene... then Goku powers up and kills everybody. Instead, the Saiyans can do battle against the main villain from the start, while the humans can take on the minions. After 13 movies, you'd think this would've happened by now, but eh. Whatever.Chuquita wrote:Seeing Tenshinhan get such a nice outfit; I hope Goku and Vegeta get movie-specific outfits too; even if they only wear them for the party portion of the movie and ditch them for their signature outfits once the plot gets underway. (I enjoyed the 08 special's "Farmer Goku".)

Sure they can. You may have a problem with them doing so and not accept it, but that doesn't change the fact that the press release bluntly states they intend this film to be neither a spin-off or side-story, aiming for it to be canon by having it fit within the manga's continuity (whether it actually will is another story).AnimeMaakuo wrote:That's not how it works. You can't take a newly developed movie (Dragon Ball has ended a long time ago by the way), and then stick it in the manga. Toriyama's not even writing the script! That alone gives me plenty of reasons to disregard any statements or showcases of strength within the movie. I mean...dude... ;p
Unless Toriyama says something about it, then I'll change my mind.
We know Toriyama has been involved earlier and more heavily than ever before for a Dragon Ball film, designing the characters AND coming up with the plot (even if he's not ironing out the specifics by writing the full script). From the sounds of things, he's basically done everything he used to do for the manga, except dialogue (which he could still have influence over), and now he's pawned the actual drawing off on someone else. =P
"It notes that he not only came up with the movie’s original concept, but also the actual story and character designs."

DNA talks about the Toninjinka incident being canon, not the movie. And while Toriyama didn't write the script, he is involved in it and he also wrote the plot of the movie.AnimeMaakuo wrote:That's not how it works. James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

1. Planet Vegeta in the background, Freeza soldiers and saiyan warriors in the background also. You can even see some above Bardock's shoulder.Kantico wrote:mistershin wrote:

2. Your wrong, its 100% Canon. Go read manga.
3. SSJ Gotenks is NOT light speed. Light can travel around the world 7 times in LESS than a second. (IIRC light travels around the world 7 and a half times in a single second, cant be bothered to check.)

Has anyone noticed... why is North Kaio's planet... back?
Maybe it's a flashback to just after Goku had 'defeated' Frieza :p Wasn't there also something weird with the symbol on Goku's shirt, it being an older version? :p Maybe Goku being beaten takes place somewhere earlier in the story? :p

I have trouble imagining that the anime staff can "forget" something when it comes to something big like a movie.JulieYBM wrote:Somebody probably forgot that Cell blew it up.worldmonsters wrote:Has anyone noticed... why is North Kaio's planet... back?Maybe it's a flashback to just after Goku had 'defeated' Freeza :p Wasn't there also something weird with the symbol on Goku's shirt, it being an older version? :p Maybe Goku being beaten takes place somewhere earlier in the story? :p
I mean, there must a hundred people working on it, if it was just a mistake, someone would bring it up and they would correct it.
Original author, script guy, drawing guy, in-between animation guy, color guy, special effects guy, editing guy, actors...
The whole process, even for just one scene, must go through many people so there's got to be one of them that would say "wow there, there's an absurd mistake here, we need to signal it and have it corrected".
So it makes me think that they deliberately choose to make those "mistakes" cause they think it's better for whatever reason they thought of.
Otherwise, someone would surely see the obvious and ring the alarm for details that seem fishy to them depending on their opinions!
"Wait, is Kaio's planet supposed to be there when it blew up during the Cell era?"
"Wait, are we sure Gohan can turn into a Super Saiyan and why would he do that?"
"Wait, are Vegeta and Goku supposed to wear their old outfit?"
If those were some of our reactions here, the same probably happened with many people in the staff, meaning it would be deliberate choices and not "forgetful mistakes".
Especially since the Toei staff worked on reanimated scenes involving those elements not so long ago for Ultimate Tenkaichi and is working on Boo Kai right now, so they would have reaaaally-short-term memory.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Also, I don't see the big deal about King Kai's planet being in the movie. Is it completely out of the question that perhaps someone, maybe Kibito Kai, restores his planet in the 10 years after the Buu saga?
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I keep seeing this come up, so I'm addressing it now.Cold Skin wrote:"Wait, are Vegeta and Goku supposed to wear their old outfit?"
The other "errors" (or things that have potentially not been explained yet) are good points, but this one... since when was what someone wore an indication of chronology? Were these outfits destroyed in scenes that I'm not aware of?
Vegeta wasn't wearing the Saiyan armor in the Buu period because he was fighting in the tournament casually, and never had the chance to change. Besides, so what? Just because he wore a jumpsuit means he's never allowed to wear the armor again? What Goku wore just happened to be what he was wearing when he fought Cell, and, again never really had a chance to change until after Buu was killed, since he was dead up until they were already fighting Buu.
In both cases, it had been the first time in the series where they didn't have much chance to prepare.

The characters can wear whatever they want, why does this need any explanation at all?
