Tailless Son Goku
Tailless Son Goku
Does the removal of Goku's tail also weaken him? Goku could barely walk after he lost his tail during the Pilaf Saga , if he was able to regain his function would he still defeat Yamcha?
How about against Gohan? Would Goku still be able to defeat Gohan at this point?

During the Tien Saga (Episode 96) Krillin grabs Goku's tail during their fight but Goku reveals that he trained an immunity to his tail's weakness.
We can probably assume he trained Gohan to become immune too.

Goku never had a tail with his child , Gohan. I am talking about Kid Goku vs Grandpa Gohan. Also both of the events I discussed occurred before Goku trained his tail. Gohan was the one who told him to train it after all.

Sorry completely misinterpreted the question, my badMjb1985 wrote:Goku never had a tail with his child , Gohan. I am talking about Kid Goku vs Grandpa Gohan. Also both of the events I discussed occurred before Goku trained his tail. Gohan was the one who told him to train it after all.
I guess we could assume that cutting off the trail while Goku was untrained had the same effect as grabbing it, I don't think there were any other instances where a Saiyan had their tail cut off and it resulted in a loss of power (other than Oozaru).
Re: Tailless Son Goku
The reason I ask is because it appears that Goku has gotten stronger from his tail growing back when he is fighting at the 21st Budokai. If he got stronger from his tail being added, he would have to have been weaker when it was removed right?
Re: Tailless Son Goku
Yeah, looking over the chapter he is clearly stronger with his tail. I mean the Daizenshuu states that the tail seems to grow back suddenly if a Saiyan is in danger, maybe it is an adrenaline rush? Or perhaps there is something to the idea that the tail holds some sort of power, I mean I vaguely remember Vegeta questioning why Goku would remove his tail as it is his source of true power, but I took that as meaning Oozaru.Mjb1985 wrote:The reason I ask is because it appears that Goku has gotten stronger from his tail growing back when he is fighting at the 21st Budokai. Another guess would be that the tail does make Goku stronger but the tail has no effect once Goku's power reaches a certain point, it'd make sense that if he masters immunity to his tail whilst training with Roshi that he might've just surpassed the boost he receives from his tail, meaning that whilst he doesn't lose power when it is grabbed/removed, he also doesn't receive any benefit from it in that sense.
Re: Tailless Son Goku
Yea I agree. The emergence of the tail was needed to break him out of Giran's gum like trap. I agree with Vegeta meaning Oozaru , but this could show something as well.
I can see that regarding training the tail's effects out over time.
The thing is, Goku is suggested to have grown stronger from the tail coming back, but not suggested to have gotten weaker. I feel this is a scenario in which something is indirectly implied and may or may not have been the intentions of the author.
A similar circumstance is when Roshi brings up how Devil Man usually goes last, yet the way he brings it up, it seems that there would have to be a member between Mummy and Devil Man, which doesn't seem to be the author's intention, but nevertheless, through indirect implications, it seems it could be the case.

Yeah, I mean the point is there but it is just something that hasn't been cleared up or resolved since. I kinda wish the tails had a more prominent role later on in the series but I guess Toriyama tired of the whole tail situation, I doubt he had the whole 'Saiyan' idea cooked up at that point in the manga and he probably just used the idea that Goku's tail gave him powers.

The loss of his tail does make him weaker but according to Toriyama it became inferior as the years went by. It was replaced by SSJ. In GT its evident that the tail increases his power and it even allows him to maintain SSJ3 as a child.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

I'm pretty sure in GT Goku specifically says that the tail didn't increase his power at all.

Movie 5 Gohan would like to differ.Sin wrote:During the Tenshinhan Saga (Episode 96) Krillin grabs Goku's tail during their fight but Goku reveals that he trained an immunity to his tail's weakness.

I think anything getting cut off from the body would weaken you though.. Vegeta seemed to get weaker after getting his tail cut off.
Re: Tailless Son Goku
Damn that's a good point. How is Vegeta effected by his tail being cut off? Didn't even think of that. Raditz?
Re: Tailless Son Goku
He's not, really.Mjb1985 wrote:Damn that's a good point. How is Vegeta effected by his tail being cut off? Didn't even think of that. Raditz?
Raditz, however, was weakened when Goku grabbed his tail.
Re: Tailless Son Goku
Ah so the training of the tail perhaps avoids the loss of power. Makes sense.

Tails help animals keep there balance. However, it was stated that Goku gained power against that dinosaur guy after his tail grew back and for what it is worth, GT even has Goku gain power when he gets his tail back IIRC.Mjb1985 wrote:Does the removal of Goku's tail also weaken him? Re: Tailless Son Goku
Yeah I think it depends what source material you're willing to look at to get your answer, I think the general consensus seems to be that the tail does give some sort of power or at least it's re-growth does.
You know whereabouts Toriyama said that?TheMightyOzaru wrote:The loss of his tail does make him weaker but according to Toriyama it became inferior as the years went by. It was replaced by SSJ. In GT its evident that the tail increases his power and it even allows him to maintain SSJ3 as a child.
Re: Tailless Son Goku
Baby Vegeta said that Goku's power hadn't changed at all when he came back with a tail. It does seem like like he gets stronger when it grows back during the 21st tournament, though. I sometimes wondered if he didn't actually get stronger, but just had more time to gather his full strength and break free--but the way he then smashes a wall as an experiment and scares Giran into giving up does seem to hint that he did get stronger.
I think he only fell over when it first got cut off because he wasn't used to balancing without it, though.

Re: Tailless Son Goku
But if you gain power from having the tail, the inverse would be that you lose power from losing it.
Re: Tailless Son Goku
Well yeah. I wasn't disputing that.

Re: Tailless Son Goku
I wonder how Yamcha fares against a tailless Goku.
