Yeah, this is pretty misleading... just read all that. A lot of empty promises and contradictory statements on that page.

I loved this video i was supporting it since day one. (I haven't posted in here for years. I've always felt that the rules and moderators were like the red ribbon army) :P

That's a gross exaggeration.

Well I guess they succeeded in getting attention. Millions of views. They'll forever be getting comments about how better it was than Evolution. And that was the worst making of ever.

The idea is that if you use common sense you have absolutely nothing to worry about, but if you lack that I guess not much can be done.

Well, now I understand why they used the specific lingo that they did; because that's how FUNimation did it in their compilation video that the trailer is clearly based around:

I let the trailer sit with me for a while, and I still think it's awful. I am not excited for this movie at all. I feel like one of the only good fan films I've seen is the Mega Man fan film by Eddie Lebron. I feel like when I compare to how that movie was made to how this trailer alone looked, Mega Man had better special effects, it looked just better made in general. Not only that, but Mega Man was low budget. I'm not exactly sure how low, but even then, they made a 90 minute film out of it, and despite it not being spectacular, I still enjoy watching it because it's at least good. This just looks, well, awful. The costumes and effects just look awful. Piccolo just looks super bad. Like, jeez, I can't even explain it. I just really don't like how Piccolo looks. Goku's Kamehameha looks super bad. Just, the way the actor is doing the pose and how the effect looks. I for one am not looking forward to this movie. It really doesn't look like all the money they got was used for this film. I guess a 1:1 adaptation really isn't a good thing.

Don't worry about it. A full-length movie isn't getting made, it's just a trailer.

What? Goes to show how not following something doesn't help. I thought this was going to be made into a full fan film. So, it was just a trailer for a movie that wasn't going to be made? Good. I wouldn't want to see the actual movie released. It would be really bad.

THAT'S why there was inconstancy with the dialog, it was taken STRAIGHT from their mock-trailer, even the same mispronunciation of Kienzan and Kaioken. I though it was just to give an idea to views of what they were gonna do, not actually use the same dialog.

Just shows how much research they did, "being huge fans of DBZ".

And from their website

Could you explain how is this misleading?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I saw the trailer last week and thought, for what it was, it was fun. Certainly, a lot of people I knew thought it was great for a fan film (that seems to be the twitter consensus).

As for the good points, there are two massive ones

1. The use of actors from diverse backgrounds. Its a shame there hasn't been just a clear shot of all actors in costume on set, as I think they made a great effort casting this.

2. The use of martial artists. Yes, there is some bad acting but the martial arts is good. If anything, they should have focused more on that then special effects.

There are lots of weaknesses, but it was certainly a good effort by some inexperienced guys. Certainly, the idea that this would put Evolution to shame and convince Hollywood to make a film is ridiculous - but I can't criticise naivete when the best of intentions are involved.

Actually, I think a 5 minute trailer of the 'best' bits from Evolution would crush this fan film - what the film got wrong was characterisation, plot and a failure to drag out DBZ style combat in live action. Judging by the 5 minutes alone, K+K have done nothing to prove they could do any better in this regard. But, they haven't got a Hollywood budget, so can't be blamed for that!

While there is certainly legal problems here, the internet is FULL of fan films - often funded by fans - so they can't be blamed for doing the same thing, even if it is technically illegal.

What I find silly, though, is the claim that this is a massive con. Operating in Britain, they would have had around 10-15 thousand pounds. With this amount, they would have had to hire transport for a fairly large crew and for their equipment, purchase make up materials, pay for the costumes, rent at least some equipment and hire a generator to power said equipment. On top of this, they would have had to get a hotel room and food for the crew. They had to rent rehearsal space and shooting room and equipment in Pinewood studios as well as access to green screen technologies (renting Pinewood alone must have been in the thousands).

Honestly, I would be surprised if they didn't LOOSE money on this (when you consider the time taken away from other, paying projects almost certainly). The idea that they have pocketed any significant sum of money is just not considering all these costs.

Yes, this will get the company exposure (and this will be why they and their actors thought it wise to sacrifice time away from paying projects) and a company that already had access to shooting studios etc could have done a better job. BUT, this does not make anything they did immoral. They were passionate about something, asked people to help them do it and were very lucky to gain people's trust. As a result, they have created a project which doesn't seem to have misused any of the money they obtained and which the majority of contributors are very happy with.

Do you have any background in Production Budgeting and/or Line Producing?

Your claims are empty. There has been nothing presented, either through promotional material or the final product, that reflects the budget that was made public.

The immoral action was utilizing a property they had no rights to in order to gain exposure for their company and more than likely, from a professional's point of view, profit financially.
