What's next for the TV series after the Dragon Boxes?

Post by Ringworm128 » Sat Dec 15, 2012 10:07 pm

If Funimation does end up releasing the rest of the series in DBOX format what would the next step for Funimation? I ask this because the Blu Ray release wasn't the success they were hoping it would be and it seemed like the only logical step forward. I could maybe see them getting DBZ on Toonami or something in order to try and hype up there Blu Ray release again, but apart from that it seems like after the Dragon Boxes the only thing Funimation can do is keep selling the season sets until the sales run completely dry.

We still have DBZ Movie 14 (Battle of Gods) coming out next March. I think Battle of Gods is a big hit then Toei might give us more DBZ movies or a possible new TV series. They will likely hold to Dragon Ball for another few years to dub the possible new films.

We also have DBO, Heroes, The new Jump Game, Zenkai Battle Royale, etc. I hope we see more animations or even funny shorts would be great.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

There are also things like the JSAT special, Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans, and Episode of Bardock that have yet to receive American DVD releases. Being released as an extra on a video game doesn't help if you don't own the console.

I want everything on Blu-ray, let's start anew with Dragon Ball, then work our way to DBZ, and finally DBGT.
That's the only logical step, because the Blu-rays were supposedly not profitable enough, yet there was no publicity for them in the first place.

But because of the movie, I think DBZ will start selling like hot cakes again, I'm pretty sure Funimation has taken interest in the recent developments, and is assessing the situation as needed.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

Funi has a hard time getting the rights to those specials. I think there is a very small chance that they will get the rights to them.

I don't think I was specific enough, but I was talking about the TV series (DB, DBZ and DBGT) and what the future of home video releases will be for them after the Dragon Boxes (assuming they get DBOX releases).

What FUNimation released was a replica of the Dragon Box Z collection, so it's still missing Dragon Box, Dragon Box GT and the Dragon Box of films.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

It would be really awesome if FUNimation did release Dragon Boxes of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT and the movies as well as the 2 TV Specials.

If they pick the rights to Battle of Gods next year then I don't think we will see it until 2014 at least. I doubt 20th Century Fox will get in the way given that it seems like 20th Century Fox in Japan is only distributing it. I doubt Fox in the US has the rights to it.

Dub the new specials I suppose. In a few years, it should be well known to the non-hardcore fan base that a "new" DBZ movie was released. It certainly won't hurt the cause for new Dragon Ball home video releases in America to be released.

We will be incredibly fortunate to get the entire series in it's most prestige form ( Dragon Box ). After that, if the Blu-ray option is non-doable, than more of the same won't cut it for long. New material will need to be released. As it was already stated, the season set sells will eventually run dry. 5 years from now, they will need to bring something new to the table.

A Blu-ray release of the entire series would be optimal following a complete Dragon Box release in America. Creating an english dub for all of the new animated Dragon Ball specials, and releasing them for sale in America would be my next move, if the Blu-ray option is not ideal at that time.

It would be nice if DB Movies 1-4 get a HD release. I guess we have to wait for Toei to put them out on Blu-Ray in Japan first before we see them get a Blu-Ray release first.

This is why I think a Blu-ray release will follow a Dragon Box release. It's probably easier for FUNimation to get the rights to, and therefor release, the rest of the Dragon Box footage, than it is to produce the entire series on Blu-ray.

A big question is, down the line, were FUNi to release a DBox styled Dragon Box The Movies, would they tweak it to include this new 18th theatrical film. Assuming of course they get the rights to Battle of Gods and release it six times over via DVD, Blu-Ray, double feature, etc. first.

Would it be possible to release the Harmony Gold Dub on DVD? It could be used as a extra for the Dragon Ball boxes seeing that the dub is so obscure now. I don't think any casual fan knows that it even exist?
