It was good for the most part. It did go a bit south with Goku and Piccolo teamed up on Garlic Jr.sonikku956 wrote:Dead Zone's animation was really fluid.ringworm128 wrote:I'm hoping the animation will be at least as good as the first 3 Z movies.
It's kind of interesting on how some these early movies seemed to have better production values compared to the later ones. I'm referring to little details like how well the mouth flaps synch with the voices, how good the action scenes are, and the general quality of the soundtrack (compare movie 1 with 10 for instance...#1 is way better in this regard).
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Ebisawa Yukio animated that part, so it's not too surprising. I think the cut of Gokuu fighting Ginger and Nikki is probably the best in the movie, aside from Take'uchi Hiroshi's cut of Gokuu fighting all three henchmen.Fulicer wrote:It was good for the most part. But hey, Battle of Gods: we have that Shida Naotoshi cut to look forward to!
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I think it comes down to who's on staff for why the first three movies are so different from the later ones. I really do like the use of nyoi-bo in Dead Zone. I can understand why nyoi-bo and Kinto'un aren't used nearly as much later on, but I still miss them a lot and they add to Goku's uniqueness I think. I like watching him use nyoi-bo in battle.
How much I would like to see either or both make an appearance in BOG, even though I know the odds of it are slim.

Is he the only big name animator on the team? But hey, Battle of Gods: we have that Shida Naotoshi cut to look forward to!

No. Tadayoshi Yammamuro is also involved.Michsi wrote:Is he the only big name animator on the team? But hey, Battle of Gods: we have that Shida Naotoshi cut to look forward to!
Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru's #1 biggest fan
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
That we know of, unless Yamamuro can still pull this off. We might very well have other talent working on the movie, too.Michsi wrote:Is he the only big name animator on the team? But hey, Battle of Gods: we have that Shida Naotoshi cut to look forward to!
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
This is awe-inspiring, more or less the complete antithesis of the super clean, obnoxiously digital look seen in the latest Battle of Gods trailer. I pray that Yamamuro works his magic like never before.JulieYBM wrote:That we know of, unless Yamamuro can still pull this off. We might very well have other talent working on the movie, too.
This is the episode of when Gokuh enrages himself after Freezer talk shit about Kuririn
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Yamamuro will probably have his hands busy working as the animation supervisor, so I wouldn't be surprised if he just does dialogue-heavy scenes. Shida aside, we could very well see some Tate Naoki and Oonishi Ryou, who are better animators than Yamamuro. Hopefully Kurita Shin'ichi gets called in, too.

Is it me, or is everything being sold out now?
Right when I saw the poster, immediately I figured out it was some kind of secret/Illuminati theme and whatnot.
What kind of look does the enemy have? I mean seriously, stupidest looking villain in the history of DBZ.
Truthfully, he looks stupid because it doesn't match the animation/character style of DBZ.
What they should do is feel free to make DBZ movies from any timeline. Just because the last DBZ movie was after the Buu saga, doesnt mean this one has to either.
I liked the villains when it was cooler, and before cooler, afterward, villains started to suck.
A little off-topic, but yeah guys, just because its "DBZ", doesn't mean you have to find no flaw and fault in it. This movie though I will watch and enjoy, feels sold out and is missing the DBZ soul and spirit that kept us watching over and over.
DBZ has become far too generic.

You take Dragon Ball Z far, far more serious than Toriyama ever did. A purple cat is no more stupid a villain design than Cell or Majin Boo's designs, to say nothing of pink-skinned Freeza or a villain named Piccolo.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
How has this movie lost the soul of DBZ? And who here is ignoring flaws? The movie isn't even out, so how could we be critical? To be honest, I think Bills kind of had a mixed reaction from the fans, even here.
To build off what JulieYBM said, if this movie had gone with a more traditional, Big badass evil guy, then wouldn't that had been lost the spirit of Dragon Ball, by taking itself too seriously?JulieYBM wrote:You take Dragon Ball Z far, far more serious than Toriyama ever did. Compared to the things we saw in the Majin Buu Saga, it's hardly any different.daveslaine2770 wrote: What kind of look does the enemy have? I mean seriously, stupidest looking villain in the history of DBZ.

I'm all for not taking things too seriously. And bringing up Buu does put Virus' character design into better perspective (I'm not wild about Virus' design either, but his powers are interesting to me); DB did start off as a gag manga after all, and I do find it more engaging when the humor aspect of it's in play. I mean, the redone "Plan to Eradicate" special played it straight serious and I found that so boring. By contrast I had a lot of fun watching the 08 special and that was full of humor.

Hmm, I wonder if Bils name is actually based off of the same name pun as Iblis....

I felt the same about Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, But the strange thing is, I didn't feel the same about the whole Cell saga, which also played it pretty straight. Were your feelings about Cell Saga the same as your opinion of Ptetss? I'm trying to think as to how that saga played it straight and was successful (in my opinion) and not Ptetss.Chuquita wrote:I'm all for not taking things too seriously. Granted, Buu sucked, I hated him and hate the whole sage. But Cell and Frieza are the best villains designed. Cell is even better in his perfect form.
But you see, the show and movies were always top notch, but somewhere in the 21st century, it lost its soul, spirit, heart, and now its like an empty feeling one gets from watching it.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
The movies were rarely if ever good. There really isn't that big a difference in quality between the modern productions and the the older movies.daveslaine2770 wrote:But you see, the show and movies were always top notch, but somewhere in the 21st century, it lost its soul, spirit, heart, and now its like an empty feeling one gets from watching it.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I hate the phrase "sold out" so much, especially when it comes to DBZ. It's so meaningless. Dragonball is a huge franchise which has done nothing but try to sell you movies, toys, video games and clothes for over 20 years. Nothing from then until now has really changed and it's not like Toriyama was some underground artist who was only in it for artistic virtue; this franchise is just what(and maybe still does) put food on his table. In no way is this movie any different from anything else Toriyama; Toei; or Namco-Bandai has tried to sell you. Just have fun and enjoy the series for what it is.daveslaine2770 wrote:Is it me, or is everything being sold out now?
As for your opinion on the villian design. I heavily disagree. Yea he carries a heavily Egyptian influence(where did you get Illuminati from?) but he's no different from Buu, Cell or Freeza. You are just used to them. Also grey skin Goku, A Nemekian named Slug, and a Robot with a brain is cool but a villain probably based off of Anubis is stupid? Right. Got it.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
