Super Saiyan Copycat?

YAY!!!!! MY ONE-HUNDRETH POST!! I AM OFFICIALY BEYOND A NEWBIE!! So, in honor of the occasion, I just wanted to bring up something thats been bothering me for years.

I'm not sure if this is a good topic, but has anyone ever wondered if Super Sonic was a Super Saiyan rip-off?(NOT dissing Sonic, I am a fan of him too, just curious.)

SSJ5 Piccohan, that is not Hyper Sonic. That is "Nazo".

As for calling Super Sonic a copycat, if my memory serves me right, Yuji Naka once said he was a fan of Dragonball, and Super Sonic was made as more of a tribute.

I just said copy cat for lack of better word. As for the Nazo thing, the picture above it(the tripod thing) is supposed to be a picture of Hyper Sonic, and Neko was supposed to show a resemblence. Just go to google image search and type in "Hyper Sonic"

Super Saiyan rules - who cares of Sonic ripped the idea off? I certainly don't, because Super/Hyper Sonic was one of the best parts of the Genesis games, which I still play occasionally.

But yea, there have been tons of similar "copy cats" of Super Saiyan. In fact, I heard that Toriyama-Sensei got the idea from someone else, but I can't back that up in any way, shape, or form.

That could be perfectly possible, as he got many ideas from other people as well.

Some people seem to forget the possibility of "spoofing" something. Yes, Super Sonic is a take on the Super Saiyan bit, also concider it takes seven Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic. At that Sonic also has to deal with the Death Egg, which is in turn a take on the Death Star from Star Wars. Sonic Team was just having some fun. Not "omgripoff"ing.

Agreed.

I actually once saw someone make a fan comic where Sonic did a Super Saiyan 3 rip off.

While it is highly likely Super Sonic is a Super Saiyan "ripoff", I have heard of a "legend of the Gold Warrior" idea, so there is a chance both transformations are actually refering to that. However it could just as easily be a tribute to DBZ.
