It's interesting how you turned my question upside down pointing at those universes Salagir didn't "steal" from other fanfics. Also why would he refrain from mentioning those fanfics he "stole" from? When he based the Cell vs. Dabra first round battle on a fanfic, he wrote about it in the commentary as soon as the battle was over (first comment here, said fanfic being available here). Also maybe you'd be so nice as to name the precise fanfics Salagir was to "steal" from. And which franchises are u19 and I'K'L based upon? State your facts please and don't accuse others of theft if you can't prove it.DNA wrote:I think the only ones he didn't steal were the guys from universe 19 and I'K'L. Even then I'm not enterely sure since aparrntly they're based on characters from other franchises. Universe 10 and 13 are completely stolen from other fanfics though.Tzigi wrote:Would you be so nice as to elaborate? I admit that I've never realy been into the DB fandom (I like the series but not most of the fans reactions) so I'm not knowledgeable about the subject and I'd love to know which characters Salagir stole from other fanfics. Please answerDNA wrote: As for what's-her-face, so far I've disliked every *new* character Salagir came up with, even the ones he stole from other fanfics. They all seem bland and pointless. I'K'L is blatantly based on Yomi & Shura from Yu Yu Hakusho, that much I know at least.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Have we even seen I'K'L though, to know what he's like or anything? I could have sworn he was one of those guys who won his match with a pass.Saiga wrote:I'K'L is blatantly based on Yomi & Shura from Yu Yu Hakusho, that much I know at least.
And new page.

'It's just a big stupid animal!' 'That was easy.'
Yeah, you think that for now.

Nope, I'K'L has been disqualified, he is the unborn child of the pregnant woman of universe 15. He was to fight with Number 17 but he wasn't born yet and the Vargas didn't want to wait.Gyt Kaliba wrote: Have we even seen I'K'L though, to know what he's like or anything? I can't wait until that unborn freak of nature is pops out and it turns out to be the true hero of DBM. I hope it looks like Kuato from Total Recall.omegalucas wrote:Nope, I'K'L has been disqualified, he is the unborn child of the pregnant woman of universe 15. I get the impression I'K'L is a brick joke. After all is said and done and everybody goes back to their universes, he'll finally be born and turn out to be invincible and ready to fight but by that time the arena will be empty.

Same, like the caterpillar guy from the Ano Ichi Budokai, who goes into a cocoon for a thousand years to come out stronger; but this time we might actually see I'K'L.TonyTheTiger wrote:I get the impression I'K'L is a brick joke. Oh yeah, that's right. Please keep telling us how awesome your ~girl saiyan~ is, guys. I don't think we've gotten the picture yet.

I love the fact that they made a literal Mary Sue character but most of their original characters are Mary Sues in the first place.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I keep hearing "Mary Sue" thrown around and more and more I get the impression that nobody really knows the definition. A Mary Sue is a character who results from taking every good character trait and mushing them into a single person at the expense of other characters. The last part is the most important part. Mary Sue-ness is not automatic but rather a relative concept.
For example, if you have a bunch of characters who are mostly normal people and some character shows up who has bright green hair and is named Twinkle Starlight then that's at least some evidence of Mary Sue status. But if everyone in the story has technicolor hair and crazy names then suddenly Twinkle Starlight isn't particularly remarkable. "Mary Sue" only applies when the rest of the characters are presented as consistently inferior or less special to the individual in question. None of that is happening here. She's more or less just a female Bardock.
Is it even possible to have a villainous Mary Sue? I'm not sure someone who engages in comedic sociopathy like beating the shit out of her infant son and dangling him by the tail is anything close to a Mary Sue.

That's probably because there isn't any one definition that everyone in the world agrees on. I like your one, but it's not the one, true, official definition or anything.TonyTheTiger wrote:I keep hearing "Mary Sue" thrown around and more and more I get the impression that nobody really knows the definition.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Regardless of what the definition is, we can all agree that it isn't "a character I don't like." Hanasia doesn't have any qualities that make her unique among the Saiyans (except maybe her pun-free name) so regardless of how one defines "Mary Sue" there's no definition that Hanasia would fit unless someone is using it as a catch-all for "original character" or something equally nonsensical. If Hanasia is a Mary Sue then Bardock is a Gary Stu since they're functionally the same character, an unusually strong (and not particularly nice) low class Saiyan who produced Goku and was subsequently killed (or not, depending on the universe).Bussani wrote:That's probably because there isn't any one definition that everyone in the world agrees on. Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
A ~girl saiyan~ (without a Saiyan name) who's super strong and badass and gets lots of screentime and is related to a main character and sees through enemy movements that kill goku may not be exactly a Mary Sue, but she's still a shitty character.
