Kai DVD Animation Same as Japanese Broadcast or Not?

Post by Super Sonic » Tue Jan 01, 2013 11:10 pm

A thing I started wondering about recently is the animation on the episodes on Kai dvds, both in the US and Japan, the same as it was on the Japanese broadcasts on tv? Know quite a few anime series have different animation on their dvd release than they did in their original broadcast on Japanese television. Like some may include more violence, or fix up the animation or other reasons. Or make things rather different like how Gurren Lagann has two versions of the sixth episode. (Sci-Fi broadcast was of the tv version). So I was wondering if that happened with Kai or not.

For one thing, the English Kai DVD's are certainly NOT cropped into 16:9 as they were on the TV broadcast.

I also noticed on Episode 56 that in a scene where we are looking at Frieza and his men through Trunks' boots, there's a slight bump in the animation which is very noticeable. It was present in the Japanese broadcast and English broadcast but was fixed for the home release (at least in the English ones AFAIA).

That's precisely why ordinary men pursue the concept of perfection, it's infatuation. But ultimately I have to ask myself "What is the true meaning of being perfect?" and the answer I came up with was nothing. Not one thing. The truth of the matter is I despise perfection! If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect! Scientist's agonize over the attempt to achieve perfection! That's the kind of creatures we are! We take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to reach for something that in the end, we have to admit may in fact be unreachable!"

Wait, are you talking about aspect ratio or the actual animation. Because I think there are a few re-animated bits here and there that weren't actually re-animated on the DVD and visa versa. I know here in the US there was a shot of Android 16 in one episode that used the classic cel animation from DBZ in the TV version, but on the DVD it was the new digital re-animation.
