My brother got me these shirts and he wrote a letter and acted like Goku, Vegeta, & King Kai sent them to me
I was laughing so hard I couldn't read it

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I've been after these! Do you know where you can get them for a reasonable price? Just because the only one I found was a pack of 24 on Amazon for over 100 dollars!medama_oyaji wrote:Some friends gave these to me for Christmas!

Well... wow! Congratulations! On completing the Daizenshuu collection too, but mainly on adding to your children collection.SaiyaJedi wrote:So, I wandered into the Book Off near my workplace because I was on an errand and it was on the route I needed to take; found Daizenshuu 6 and 7 near-instantly, completing my collection of the hardbound volumes. I also found the Akira Toriyama: The World — Anime Special magazine that came out (IIRC) around the time of Z movie 3 (it contains the one-shots Pink and Kennosuke-sama, which were made into animated featurettes for that particular season's all-Toriyama Toei Anime Fair).
Also, my wife went into labor with our second child, but that's a story for another time.
In regards to your theatrical programs, about how much do they go for over in Japan? And in total how many of the Z pamphlets do you own? They are some items I've always wanted to see dissected in depth! I've only been able to get ahold of four of them...

I believe they picked them up at a local Asian grocery store (in Georgia).BlackCatScott wrote: I've been after these! Do you know where you can get them for a reasonable price? Just because the only one I found was a pack of 24 on Amazon for over 100 dollars!

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?
I got two little gems off ebay recently.
Dragon Ball Z 40th Anniversary Jump Special MANGA

Here is the front cover before I unwrapped it. Yes, it came wrapped.

The images look like they were basically pulled out of the special and put into manga form. Don't know if this is a real product or not but it looks decent and it's nice to have the art. I didn't like this special too much, but it is Dragon Ball, so it's nice to have it like this. I'm trying to get the DVD but all I can find are bootlegs that are $20.00, come in a sleeve and the quality is "not so great." I can rip it off YouTube too and it won't cost me $20.00. The only thing that prevents me from thinking this is a bootleg is the way it's put together. It seems professionally done and to top it all off, it has barcodes, ISBN numbers, the Jump Comics logo on the back, a character bio page and like a credits page in the end. Tough to pull off with using just the video footage. This thing looks great.
Dragon Ball Z: Episode of Bardock DVD

This DVD seemed legit enough. Comes with wrapping, nice little sparkly design for the logo, a hologram sticker on the front, and some other "ANIMEDIA Entertainment" sticker on the front. But...heh, let's get into it.

This is the entire menu. Now it looks terrible. But what I like about this is that it has the option to have subtitles so I can understand it, or no subtitles so I can get a clean image if I ever need to take a screenshot of it or something. That's cute. Chinese and Malay have nothing to do with me, but this was a "Maylay" DVD, which, thank God, wasn't dubbed. The audio is original Japanese.

No subtitle.

Subtitle. See?
This release screams bootleg, though, because the quality isn't exactly razor sharp, and it even lags a little bit here and there. But it gets better. Much better. It has English subtitles! And boy oh boy what subtitles it has!

This thing is riddled with horrible subtitle work! Half the time you're trying to figure out what exactly they're trying to say. An official release doesn't seem like it would have an issue such as this, which is the primary reason I think that this release is bootleg. Plus, little pet peeve, this thing uses the FUNimation name translations for some reason. So yeah, it's "Frieza".

Still an awesome visual.
I didn't like this special either. It seemed rushed and I'd rather they left Bardock alone. He already had a story established and after 15+ years of knowing his story, now it's suddenly different. I wasn't a fan of that. But it had great animation and again, piece of DB mythos that I liked to have.
If these things are bootleg, I definitely didn't know it at the time. I try not to buy that crap. Even still, I think it's worth it. Very cheap and I get to pick subtitles or no subtitles for the Bardock DVD and I get to have a nice manga.

Yea, that's how ani-manga works. They're just screen shots with word bubbles. Some people like 'em, some people don't.TheGreatness25 wrote:The images look like they were basically pulled out of the special and put into manga form. And yea, that Bardock DVD is a bootleg. It was released only once on DVD, so it's easy to spot fakes.
Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?
I really can't understand why do you guys buy bootlegs, when you can download them from the Internet, in this case, you even can download EoB or buy it on HD riped from or inside "DBZ Kinect" for xbox360.

My girlfriend's mom bought me the printed version of DerekPadula's It's Over 9000! book. I read through the whole thing in one sitting and found it to be pretty interesting.

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?
It's a funny story, really. I recently broke down and decided to buy the orange bricks because I figured that the Dragon Boxes would be too expensive for a guy with no job and about to start college. I ordered seasons 3, 4, 7, and 8 on Christmas after my parents gave me a Visa gift card as a gift (I love my parents). I already have all of Kai and I had recently won an eBay auction for seasons 1 and 9 a week earlier, so I figured I'd finish out the Buu Saga since I didn't have that part of the story and I wanted to get my girlfriend prepared for Battle of Gods next year ASAP since nobody knows when the Kai version of Buu is coming out. So I have these things ordered and everything along with Movies 1-3, 5, and 8 (starting with the favorites) and am very happy to finally get my series collection started, even though it's the orange bricks. So I'm eating dinner and we get a knock on the door. It's two of my best friends (let's call them C and M) and they got me Christmas presents (I can't believe they bothered... I always tell my friends not to worry about it). So C tells me, "Okay, this is your Christmas present, next birthday present, and next Christmas present," handing me three rectangular gifts. I open one, and what do you know! It's Dragon Box 5!!! The next ones are 6 and 7, of course. That magnificent bastard bought me the Dragon Box versions of two of the seasons I ordered earlier that day! So I went and cancelled my season set orders, and soon as I get my money back, I'll be ordering Dragon Box 3 and 4. So that's my most recent Dragonball purchase story. Remember kids: Friends are the best thing you could ever have in life. They're worth more than all the Dragon Boxes in the world.

I ended up going for it after all, and ordered this set of figures from RightStuf, I'm hoping I won't be disappointed, but from the looks of it I won't be.

*consoles were already bought before*
Edit: Bought The Walking Dead: Episode 2 (will see about the rest after) since it was on sale for 200 MSP and the first episode was already free. I definitely enjoyed TWD:E1 so supporting TellTale Games by buying their games will show that they have fans and whatnot.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?
Ordered the Dragon Ball Viz bigs 1-5 the other day from Amazon.
Can't wait for them to arrive! I haven't enjoyed the first half of Dragon ball in quite a while. Gonna read these as soon as they get here.
These are gonna go high on a new shelf, and will be very well taken care of. A few of my Dragon Ball/Z volumes are beat up a bit, so these will be in pristine condition for as long as I have them. The Z viz bigs 1-9 are next!

Nope. I don't actually own a Laser Disc player. I bought it mostly for the novelty of owning it.Insertclevername wrote:That's awesome! Have you actually watched it yet?
