Soundclips of the new BGM! (Samples only)

Post by kenisu3000 » Sat Mar 04, 2006 3:21 am

Here you'll find soundclips of all 62 previously-unreleased compositions from the new BGM Collection. These aren't the full compositions as they are on the set (we're trying to keep this legal, after all!), but these clips should give those of you who haven't yet purchased this CD set an idea of what to expect. If you've seen at least a good chunk of the series in Japanese, you should be able to recognize a great deal of these. They're in mp3 format, and to listen to them you'll need QuickTime. When it first loads, the music plays automatically, and it may skip - if it does that, just play it again and it should sound fine. If the page says it's unavailable, then that means Geocities is having a temporary fit and you'll have to try again later. Please remember that these aren't entirely for your entertainment - rather, they're just there so you can identify which new pieces are on the BGM Collection :)

Disc 1, track 6: Cha-La Head-Cha-La (Variations)
-----------------
1. Gohan's pet dinosaur daydream
2. Cha-La Head-Cha-La victory theme

Track 7: Bridge Collection
---------
3. Goku (finally!) takes Gohan fishing [I have no idea why the audio sounds so watery in the intro - I guess it just doesn't agree with the mp3 format...]
4. Bulma in Capsule house in Namek cave
5. (I haven't quite identified this one...)
6. Goku notices the curving road
7. Peace and tranquility
8. Piccolo shows up
9. Raditz notices Gohan's tail
10. Gohan encounters Mr. Robot

Track 10: Gohan's Theme
----------
11. Gohan's lullaby
12. Gohan's first scene
13. Gohan wants his hat back! [I LOVE this one!]
14. Gohan to the rescue!
15. Gohan attacks the carnivore

Track 11: Ah, The Days Of Training
----------
16. Distant bells
17. Piccolo's bell theme
18. Piccolo refuses to help Gohan any more [I'm so proud of my editing skills here... the cut - inbetween seconds 4 and 5 - is so smooth you wouldn't even know it's there...]
19. Gohan chases the butterfly
20. Gohan heals the wound
21. Raditz's theme

Disc 2, track 8: Movie 6 suite
----------------------------------
22. Switch to Kami's Lookout
23. Piccolo anticipates arrival on New Namek
24. Piccolo tells the two to focus
25. Ki concentration
26. Coola's multiplicity [my favorite, favorite BGM in all of Z -- I'm so glad they included it!!]
27. The story of the computer chip

Track 10: Movie 7 suite
---------------------------
28. The androids march, part 1 [not to be confused - as it often is - with part 2, as they sound so similiar]
29. Rescuing the people in the cafe
30. Goku faces the androids
31. Android 13 appears
32. Android 13 shoots Goku

Disc 3, track 4: Angel
-------------------------
33. Gohan feels sheepish
34. (Haven't pinpointed this one either...)

Track 5: Reunion! Tenkaichi Tournament
----------------------------------------------
35. (I'm not sure where this piece comes from, but it sounds a whole lot like Paper Mario music...)
36. Gohan runs at super-speed [another favorite!!]

Track 8: The Time For Battle Is Here Again
-------------------------------------------------
37. Goku's final Genkidama is complete!! [yet another personal fave!]
38. Weird Japanese theme [as you can tell, I'm having trouble remembering where this comes from...]
39. Videl tries to open the water valve [haven't gotten around to checking the episode yet, but I'm pretty sure this is the scene it's from, in Gohan's date episode]

Track 9: Believe In Tomorrow...
-------------------------------------
40. Beautiful piece [not sure where it's from, but man do I already love this one!]
41. Title music remix [the twin sister to the opening piece on track 4... they sound so alike, the differences are incredibly subtle. They even share the same M-number*!]
42. Kid Boo Is Complete [gotta love it!!]
43. Boo saga "to be continued" music

*M-number: a number (beginning with M and ending with -what else?- a number) used to catalogue each BGM piece for the database. I'm pretty sure the term "M"-number only applies to Shunsuke Kikuchi-sama's DragonBall score, though Gundam Wing also uses the same concept of letter-then-number the BGM score pieces.

Track 10: Son Goku Is The Strongest After All!!
------------------------------------------------------
44. Gohan evades another suspicion

Track 16: Movie 12 suite
----------------------------
45. Janemba appears
46. The fight between Goku and Janemba continues in the Other World
47. Goku goes Super Saiyan 3
48. Goku overwhelms Janemba with his power
49. Janemba reincarnates into a more brutal warrior
50. Vegeta declines Goku's urgings to Fuse
51. At last, success in Fusing into Gogeta, the Super Saiyan to end them all
52. Gogeta's magnificent action scene
53. All's well that ends well

Track 18: Movie 13 suite
----------------------------
54. Tapion's theme, part 1 [watch out for that piano - it's a doozy!]
55. Tapion's theme, part 2
56. Gohan challenges the less-than-half monster to a fight
57. Hildegarne's theme music
58. The Son family stands up to the phantom Majin who has regained his power
59. Hildegarne lodges a mightier power and is revived
60. Tapion, having sealed the demon again within his own body, entreats Trunks to kill him
61. Goku changes his form to Super Saiyan 3
62. Goku's Ryu-ken consignes Hildegarne to oblivion

EDIT: Whoops, put a link outside of the bracket. I guess that's what happens when you're doing this so late at night
Anyway, fixed the link (not that it was much of a problem - the address was there in plain sight, so I don't doubt you guys just copied-and-pasted it into your URL line :))

Track 9: Believe In Tomorrow...
-------------------------------------
40. Beautiful piece [not sure where it's from, but man do I already love this one!]
Sounds like a "We were angels" BGM remix. I can't remember where it was played in the series either. :?

I'm pretty sure the term "M"-number only applies to Shunsuke Kikuchi-sama's DragonBall score
Nope, both the Saint Seiya BGM collections and the Re:Cutie Honey BGM OST use M-# to catalogue a piece of BGM.

Aaargh, maybe I shouldn't have asked my cousin to order it for me, he usually takes months to actually make an order at YesAsia.... >.<

I'm afraid that's all the *brand-new-on-CD* BGM. Aside from the 5-disc set, there's also some that come from the Ongakushu volumes 1 and 2, and the Movies 10 and 11 OSTs, but I didn't think it was necessary to include those.

Okay then, maybe it's an anime-in-general thing :)

You mean you can't just order it yourself? Don't have the right payment method, or something?
Hopefully these clips will tide you over until you can hear the full versions :)

I can't play any of the samples. It just basically says that the pages are unavailable.

Really? Well, it's bound to happen since we have to rely on my crummy Geocities site. Sometimes the service goes down for a little while. I've tried a couple of the links now, and they seem to be back up, so try it again, and make sure you can play mp3s and QuickTime.

Does the new soundtrack happen to include vegeta intro from movie 13?

This is great Kenisu! Good job!

All the links seem to be working perfect too. These are the pieces I've always wanted, I prefer them to the earlier tracks used in the series, I will but this sooner or later.

If you want I can help you identify some pieces where they are used...just to make sure, have you releated the tracks to when they are first ever used, or just any random scene they are used in?

Good, that means Geocities isn't having a fit :)

Any help is appreciated in identifying the mystery pieces! It's not that I don't have the episodes that have these pieces (except for the last disc of the Great Saiyaman saga, which I've not yet bought), rather, it's that I'm going through seemingly all the wrong episodes at the moment :) I'm working on them at random, and right now I've decided to do the last few discs of the Fusion saga and the entire Kid Boo saga, so I can catch more music from Movies 12 and 13!
The way I title each piece refers more or less to the scene that it plays in that's most memorable to me (except for when it's a movie piece, in which case, I name the piece after its movie scene). For example, "Kid Boo Is Complete" is used all the way back in the Saiyaman saga, but I call it that because the Kid Boo scene is when I first decided I really like the piece. Another one is "Goku's Final Genkidama Is Complete!!", which refers to the suspenseful theme at the end of episode 285, but is also used, again, as early as the Saiyaman saga.
I've also never seen Movies 12 and 13, so I'm rather impaired in the area of those films' music.

Hey kenisu3000
Thanks for all these short clips! :o

I'm so glad that they put the "Piccolo's Bells Theme"- It's not my -very- favorite but it's the first BGM I did like in the first time I saw the series.

However, Great job!

Can someone tell me if the music where ChiChi appears at the Kame House in episode 8 of DBZ in available in this set?

Note: This music was also in Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle.

Yeah, "Piccolo's Bell Theme" is one of my personal favorites from the training-for-the-Saiyans BGM... that and "Gohan Wants His Hat Back!" :) I looooove it!!

I'm afraid it isn't. And I do know what piece you're talking about - I've recorded it onto a cassette tape directly from the episode along with a whole mess of other unreleased pieces, and I listen to it quite often during work (yeah, I know I'm a hopeless geek). I had been wondering if it was from one of the DragonBall movies I've never seen. Unfortunately no music composed for the original DragonBall is on this set. Let's just hope they come out with a separate set for DragonBall (and GT)!

Does it have the music that plays when Goku finally arrives to confront Nappa and Vegeta and he gives them this look?

Image

It also plays in other scenes throughout DBZ.

I would check for myself but after listening to about 20 of the samples you posted, Geocities finally crapped out (exceeded bandwith limit). :(

Oh and I should say thanks for putting all that effort in getting these samples!

*Goes to check episode*
*Comes back frowning*
Boy, do I wish that one was on there. *Everybody* wants this BGM piece, myself included, and it can't be found on *any* CD. It was composed for Movie 1, when Garlic Jr. is going over his plans with his henchmen. I refer to it as "Garlic Jr.'s Castle", since that's the first shot we get of his abode.

Yeah, Geocities has a tendency to do that. It has fits sometimes. Just try again later.
And you're very welcome!

Just finished hearing all the samples...

It's too bad they don't have the music that plays in the scene when Goku says goodbye to Gohan right before transporting Cell to Kaio's planet.

Isn't that "Android 13 Shoots Goku" from Movie 7 (I'm not at home at the moment, so I can't check the episode to make sure)? That one's on there (it's download #32). I guess I just picked a less-recognizable part of the theme for the sample.

You're right. That's the one. Must have forgotten.

I'm tempted to get this set now :D

Kenisu3000, I know you haven't seen movie 12, but I was hoping you could still check something on the BGM set.

There is a scene in movie 12 where all of the dead people are brought back to life. A vampire is walking the streets and a certain dictator is driving by with his tanks.

The BGM is sooo great and funny. It's a really happy tune. Is that piece of BGM part of the movie 12 suite by the way?
