It's weird to not hear the characters with their Ocean group voices.
I remember hearing in a podcast here that the source Manga were using for theirs was Madmans as it already had been converted to PAL, so that means the Marathon Mode should return in Season 4. But it's weird how it was only for the first three.

I hadn't actually heard what source they were using but it does make sense I suppose. Though in fairness i think anyone can play ntsc and PAL these days. I doubt this will be a massive sale as any DB fans will have got a R4 or R1 release of these years ago. It will just be a few odd people who buy this.

The problem is, these sets should be sold to people who remember Toonami/CNX and may have never so much as looked at an anime since (which is real easy given our pathetic track record of airing anime, we were the country that aired Inazuma Eleven at 8am for a month and then never again) and Manga will/can not advertise to them.

And then they'll pitch a bitch-fit at everyone who didn't buy their sets because they didn't know they exist.

Manga are not the best at business. Couldn't even market Full Metal Alchemist right.

Hell, the fact that the boxart is reversible so you don't need to see all the ad-copy is something of a small miracle.

Someone has put up their DRAGON BALL Z SEASON ONE - UK Version on eBay for sale, starting 99p.

I'm slightly disappointed with the box-set itself even though I knew what it was gonna be, something like this would've improved the UK Orange Bricks (but it'd require more paper, plastic and printing) overall:

Yeah, I'm with you on that, It's a bit disappointing that this set is missing some of the only redeeming features of the Orange bricks e.g. marathon mode, and the spine art. I don't really like the feel of the case either. It really is just a slightly fatter DVD case. Still, I am happy that we finally have a release of DBZ over here. I'm just hoping Manga don't decide to cancel production of them half way through.

The way I'm going about it is that I'll buy the sets for as long as Manga chooses to do so and then get the rest (if applicable) via UP1. If they release Kai, I'll sell off the Orange bricks up to the end of the Cell Saga and that'll be me untill they Kai Sayaman - Buu.

At CeX today while I was waiting for my HD-DVD disc to be resurfaced (i.e, for the scratches to be cleaned off -- because they're too careless with discs and they easily scratch them) a dude brought his DBZ Seasons 1 to 5 to sell for cash and then left.

They looked all to be in pristine condition, and each right now's worth between £7 to £18 (cash/store credit). I guess he needed cash or just wasn't interested in Dragon Ball Z any more.

Anyway, if Manga UK is keeping DBZ Season sets exclusive to HMV, they won't sell any, because it's at risk of closing down unless someone takes over the company(ies). I do wonder how well/bad the sales of the UK DBZ Seasons have been so far, logically if it didn't sell any Manga UK would've cancelled it by now.

I don't imagine they could have been selling that many, because ever since season 1 was released I've always been checking in DVD shops like HMV just to see if I can see them (it makes me happy to see DBZ on sale in the UK), and I've never seen them at all until I saw one copy of season 4 recently. If that's how low the availability is, they can't be selling many.

Of course the season sets are doing well. DBZ is one of the most popular animes, and our country has been starved of it for a good 7 years or so. Just look at how much popularity Kix channel got airing Kai, both from older nostalgic viewers and even from kids voting/commenting it was their new favourite.

Here are some actual sales figures:

DRAGON BALL Z – SEASON 1 >2,500
DRAGON BALL Z – SEASON 2 >2,500
DRAGON BALL Z – SEASON 3 >2,500

http://www.alltheanime.com/top-sellers-2012/

To put things into perspective, Season 1 is the fourth best selling 2012 anime release in the UK.

It's really great to see it selling well. Just think of how great the sales would have been if they'd released the Bricks back in 2007 before so many of the fans resorted to importing the US sets. I'd bet anything that they'd be on the list of best-selling UK anime of all time if they hadn't waited so long to release them. Still there is the original Dragonball and the Movie sets which are Region 1 only at the moment so hopefully those sell really well.

Only 2.500 sold each? I kind of expected higher but anime's not really popular in UK.

I don't think that's a poor result for these releases. You'll notice the best sellers of 2012 in that market are all movies.

It is doing very well for Manga UK. They are now talking with Toei about getting the DBZ movies. So they must be happy with the sales.

It likely didn't sell to great because everyone who gives a crap about Dragonball imported it years ago. I got the Dragonbox's now anyway so it'd be a huge waste of money for me.

It will probably be the Double Features because why on earth would Manga even touch the Dragon Box: The Movies when FUNimation hasn't yet (or just didn't announce them).

Although if they did, they'd end up getting sales from around the world not just UK because Dragon Box is something fans are willing to pay up.

The Double Features would be a good idea. But I'd like to see them release those boxsets with 4-5 movies each. That would be a fast and convenient way to collect them all. I wonder if they'll just be released on DVD or will they get a Blu-ray release too. Either way it's a smart move by Manga going for the movies next with all the Battle of the Gods hype. They'll probably get all 13 of the old movies out first then release Battle of the Gods after assuming Funimation have dubbed it by then.

Anime Limited have released the top selling anime list for March. Not only is DBZ Season 6 the top seller for titles released in March but is the top seller overall. It's good to see DBZ doing well in the UK despite the fact that it's the orange bricks.

It's great to see that despite being released really late on and lots of sales being lost through imports that DBZ has still made it to the top where it belongs. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until we get more Dragonball related releases :D

That's quite fantastic! I thought DB would never see the light of day in the UK once the shows went off the air. But here we are with Kai and the Orange bricks, and they seem to be doing well too. :)
