I'd be pretty happy with just a 90 minute film as well, but HOLY CRAP, would I not love it if it were 120 minutes too. Well, supposing they used all that time wisely. But I think that if they were smart about it, that would be easily possible.

Don't forget the government gave money to Toei for Dragon Ball, not One Piece. That could affect the running time.JulieYBM wrote:I highly doubt it's 121 minutes long. Not even the big budget One Piece films are that long. Don't expect a run time until one appears on a reputable Japanese site.

They'll use that to get in theaters and promote it internationally. The film itself isn't going to see a single yen of that money.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Don't forget the government gave money to Toei for Dragon Ball, not One Piece. Yes. Uchuu Show e Youkoso was 136 minutes. Kidou Senshi Gundam's compilation trilogy was 137, 134, and 141 minutes respectively (although all three were mainly made up of animation from the TV series).sonikku956 wrote:Is there even a 2 hour long animated movie?

Actually, from what I recall in my Exploration of Space class, space travel does affect age. I forgot how, exactly, but it actually is along the lines of what you said.JeffJarrett wrote:but traveling in space doesn't make you aged faster or become youth.
More on topic, I wonder if this movie will beat out the Hunter x Hunter movie and One Piece Film Z? HxH opened this past weekend and beat OP and Evangelion. Can DB live up to the sales?
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Domestically, it's a tough call. Dragon Ball isn't as popular as it used to be. If international sales are figured in than there might be a chance, but it depends on how big a push the film gets.NeoKING wrote:More on topic, I wonder if this movie will beat out the Hunter x Hunter movie and One Piece Film Z? Just noticed that in the DBO timeline Age 780: Pilaf attempts to take over the world, only to fail yet again
Isn't that around the time this movie is set?

The battle with Majin Boo is set in Age 774, so I'd have to doubt this movie takes place anywhere beyond Age 777, at the least.

I won't mind if it's 90's minutes. I hope we could get a director's cut later on.

Weekly Jump 8's TOC is up and BOG news is listed for pages 21, 259, and 372. Be it new info, or just the same ads we've been getting, something is in there. The listing is vague, so I don't know what yet.

Has the next V Jump leaked early yet?

Nope. No VJump leaks as far as I know. From prior experience in recent months, most who manage to get their hands on VJump early are more interested in Yugioh than DB; all that typically pops up early are scans from VJump's Yugioh pages.
Saikyo Jump is out, but there's no new info in Saikyo according to 2ch.
The fact that Weekly shares its street date with VJump this coming week makes me hopeful there may be early spoilers in WJ8.

I do believe there could be some significance for 777.

I guess you haven't seen a Hayao Miyazaki movie, huh?sonikku956 wrote:Is there even a 2 hour long animated movie?
They're quite capable and able to hold their own against a live movie.
But since this isn't a Studio Ghibli film, and it's a dragonball film. It will most likely be 90 minutes haha.

Speaking about time and space, you think we'll see Future Trunks appear this time around? Considering the large role he plays in DB:Online, which is one of Toriyama's most recent DragonBall ventures, I don't think it's too farfetched.
2 hour movie? That's like 6 episodes of DragonBall Z!

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
From what I remember, dbz eps are, minus the opening and ending, usually about 18 minutes long. A 90 minute film would evenly split out to 5 episodes, which is not all that bad.

Guys, the 121 minute run time has been floating around Wikipedia for ages now. Pretty sure it's not the true length of the film, and even if it were, I find it hard to imagine that a Dragon Ball Z film could use that run-time effectively without drawing itself out (would love to be proven wrong though!). A long run time isn't necessarily going to make it a better film, although it would if they could utilize all those minutes effectively.
I'd say the film's run-time will be somewhere between 90-105 minutes.

It's more an issue of this being a Toei film and Toei having more on its plate at once than Ghibli ever having to contend with.Jackal puFF wrote:But since this isn't a Studio Ghibli film, and it's a dragonball film. It will most likely be 90 minutes haha.

Runtime discussion again?
As a benchmark, all One Piece films to be released on their own (and not as part of the defunct Toei Anime Fair or with Toriko) have been at least 90 minutes long. The last two movies, both of which had heavy involvement from the creator, have been at least 100 minutes (with the longest, Strong World, clocking in a few minutes shy of two hours).
So we can generally expect that it will be between 90 and 120 minutes long, though we should hold off on definitive proclamations until we get more information out of Eirin.

At least no one's talking about it being 45 minutes again.SaiyaJedi wrote:Runtime discussion again?
