I love action. I love comedy. They're like peanut butter and chocolate.... and sometimes, those two great tastes taste great together!

That's one of the reasons I enjoyed the 2008 special, and why I'm looking forward to this new movie.

I don't mind comedy. It's just that it's strange to see a random fish that has a role in a serious movie like Movie 14. The comedy in the original Dragon Ball was easy execution for Toriyama. In a modern time where everything was so serious, humor hardly exists in the media world. Humor was 80s' strength.

Also, still don't understand how GT had "many" poor executions.

Um, how do you know the 2013 movie is serious? And even then, isn't the series' biggest strength its ability to combine action and humor? And how is humor an 80s thing? I don't know if you follow the current WSJ lineup, but it's top dog can be pretty wacky.

I thought Toriyama's involvement was a sign for more humor and heart being put into the movie.

The general consensus is that GT had many good ideas on paper, but the executions tended to be boring and uninteresting, failing to bring out the potential of quality they had.

I don't see the fish being weirder than Tarble's wife.

As for this "modern time"... I'd say humor exists all over the media world.

This isn't the time to talk about the Para Para Brothers. :D

Gyt Kaliba wrote:I agree about the differing tastes thing, and I can see how that'd make the fish thing all the weirder for some people. I hadn't actually thought about that - to anyone that loves DBZ but isn't particularly fond of original DB, it is going to be a little odd.

I'm in a lucky position with my own preferences. I love the action, I love the comedy. So long as it's done well, I can enjoy anything DB sends me.
Yeah, because me in particular, I didn't really favor DB until it got to the Tien stuff. Red Ribbon was pretty boring for me, dunno why. But it's like, something about Toriyama's humor is ... I don't know. Immature? I feel like it's mostly about being a pervert and that's not too funny to me. I think perverted humor is pulled off better on non-animation tv shows, like sitcoms or movies or something. Dragon Ball humor always came off as very kiddy to me. Very few anime I find funny, actually. Japanese humor seems very toned down. Chinese humor is really funny though, guess because it's very similar to American humor.

I do admit though, there are rare times when I think One Piece is funny, and I admit-admit that the 4Kids dub of particular scenes were even funnier to me, like when Luffy imitates his friends while locked up in the Alabasta arc.

But, I don't think "humor" is really what you guys are looking for. "Whackiness," would be the word I guess? Humor was present in all of DB's movies.

I didn't like how they animated that 2008 OVA. Vegeta looked like a Chibi.

And what spoiler-free merchandise it is. XD
I have to admit Toei's doing a fantastic job at keeping a sizable chunk of info about this film's plot under wraps.

In this day and age where spoilers are thrown out haphazardly, I find this to be refreshing.

I dunno, I kinda wish they'd throw me another bone here. I know we're but months away now, but...I need more. I'm foaming at the mouth here!

I bet the fish thing was a slip up as it was, they probably didn't originally plan on releasing that little tidbit even.

Yeah, I'm aching for spoilers; even after mostly learning my lesson with how over-spoilered I got on One Piece Film Z. (But I've decided I'm ok with that, since I'm a much more uninvolved OP fan compared to how involved I am with DB.)
I can still appreciate Toei's secret-keeping skills, but man do I want those Weekly Jump and VJump scans to pop up online already.

I would not be nearly as hyped as I am for this film without the vague spoilers I already have about Vegeta, Pilaf Gang, BIrusu capable of destroying Z's "common sense", and Bulma's Birthday Party.
Tell me what you plan to do to Vegeta, movie. I need to know.
On hiatus.
