Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
Well, I remember being on one of the Atari forums back in the day (possibly for Budokai 1).
First forum I remember signing up for properly would be MFG. Some of the guys on there really knew their stuff, and were great...others were, um, not quite at the same level, to be polite.
I still have the scans some guy sent me on how to draw Goku in various forms. I don't remember usernames, but to whoever that was, thank-you!

Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
Funi forums where I was some what active (at least by my standards, more of a lurker than a poster). I actually joined it because I found a ongoing thread that was talking about a specific part in a DBZ game that I was wondering about. I remember finding this site not to long after but for some reason I couldn't join on my first couple of tries so I just went back to Funi. Then the Funi site went down for like a month and when it finally came back the down time had killed the poster base so after a while I tried here again. This time I was succesful and posted about 20 times in a few weeks but then I just stopped doing much with dragonball for just under 3 years so I wasn't on here at all until I watched Kai.

I used to lurk on some other forums, mostly MFG, but this is the first one I've actually really posted in. I think I may have posted a few times on IMDB's Dragon Ball Z message board back in the day, if that counts.

I wasn't a member of that forum (didn't know it was a forum too) but I loved that site and used to save loads of its articles and pics onto floppy disks. The screencaps section was my personal heaven.DanTheBib wrote:Well, I remember being on one of the Atari forums back in the day (possibly for Budokai 1).

My first Dragonball message board was here
I lurked around for a while then decided to join and I haven't regretted yet!

I wouldn't be surprised if there was somewhere else I posted briefly beforehand, but the first one I remember is Planet Namek.
Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
I believe I joined the MyFavoriteGames forum around the exact same time I joined here. Only one forum quickly took precedence, and I don't think I hit 25 posts at MFG.

Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
This is my first and only dragonball message board.

Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
For me it was the forums over at dbgt.com, I was gutted when they were taken down.
Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
I used to collect action figures from the series so I first joined Dragonballtoys.com back in the mid 2000's (05-06?) until it got taken down or something. It's still running under the name Dragonballtoys.proboards.com though. Good times, good times. I used to be known as "Dark Soul" until I changed my name to "Phoenix" and ultimately "PhoenixEX" for the boards here at Kanzenshuu.
Some funny members on that forum, I wonder if any ever joined this forum:
Brangeta, Adrenaline, Mr. E, Son of Chanjiro, Soda, Mike, Oldphan, Ss4Goshin, to name a few; excuse me if I mispelled some names as it's been a while.

Planet Namek had a forum too? Good lord, was I just completely forum blind when I was younger or something? I was on that site all the time and never noticed one, if I had I would have joined the hell out of it.Kendamu wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if there was somewhere else I posted briefly beforehand, but the first one I remember is Planet Namek.

Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
I used to post on a random DBZ forum on Gamespot.com. I felt like a god there because nobody else there frequented Daizenshuu EX as much as I did. Whenever somebody needed information, I just looked it up on Daizenshuu EX. I think at that time I wasn't aware that this site had a forum. When I found out, I immediately switched over and havn't looked back!

I was probably here earlier too, but way back when.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

This one. The community here is much better than communities I have seen on other forums.

Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
I think my first was Planet Namek with UKDB and DBZOA not far behind. Back in those days I went by "Mystic Gohan" or some variation of it.

Good ol' MyFavoriteGames or MFG. My account was never activated for whatever reason, but I was a regular visitor back in '08 to '09.
Not a message board, but I often commented on the WolfClawStudios YouTube channel. That was where I use to get all my Dragon Ball news because MFG was useless for that sort of thing.

Wolf Claw Studios? I almost joined that group. Atleast the name sounds very familiar, we met on a One Piece forum and i think they wanted to do a fandub of itDragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:Good ol' MyFavoriteGames or MFG. Though I'm "older" than Mike purely on a DB fandom level. He's weirdly got a physical year or two over me.
Even though my first real exposure to and getting hooked on it was during the midst of the original airing/release of the Cell arc (for a signifier of just how long ago this was, my first immediate visual connection between DBZ and something else I was already familiar with was Ryo Sakazaki's wild blonde hair and propensity for slinging oversized ki bolts coupled moreover with his very similarly designed sleeveless orange gi from the original Art of Fighting back when that game was still freshly new in arcades), I first heard of DB a few further years back when the Freeza arc was still going. I remember a few rec.arts.anime discussions of it from way back then, when I only had a very vague, nebulous idea of what it was supposed to be.
Fandom for DB back then was in large part made up of truly old school Toriyama fans who mainly knew and loved him as a gag manga guy (since face it, that's pretty much what he was up till that point) and were a bit perturbed at the increasingly dark direction of the series by that point (though that didn't stop a number of people from putting Movie 3 on their "favorite anime films and OVAs of '90" lists, so its not like this sentiment was 100% universal). This opinion would shift substantially when the large influx of new fans coming into it via the Cell arc (like me) arrived and loved it precisely FOR it's meaner streak. There's got to be something like upwards of sixty some-odd layers of forehead-slapping irony to that entire paradigm that I won't even begin to cover here.
But yes that's right: back in late '92/early '93, a guy like me was considered a "late-comer" to this series. Seriously. Gotta be honest, I really, REALLY miss that (for vast multitudes of reasons).
I haven't come here much at all for the past several years now, but I just bumbled across this bit of discussion and as I'm pushing the big three-zero myself soon enough, my heart sort of went out to Mike here and I felt like he didn't deserve to be left hanging on a note like that. I know I wouldn't.
So yeah don't worry guy: in any given fandom there's ALWAYS someone older and crustier than you. Even with this particular series.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Re: Your First Dragon Ball Message Board
Yea, I alt.fan.dragonball was my first online experience with other people about the franchise. I was a total jerk back then, a real ass. Is there some kind of an archive for that? I would love to check out my old post... I went by the name Burndit and then Burndit 2.VegettoEX wrote:Not sure if the Japan - Dragon Ball Z AOL chat room counts, but that and some perhaps Wizard Magazine-related comics spin-off DBZ message board also on AOL... followed shortly thereafter by alt.fan.dragonball.
Sometime around 1999\2000 I remember FUNimation making this new DragonBall Z website with a forum. I would post there from time to time but then this came along and well, I've been here ever since.
