Are you serious? I think FUNi's music has down waaaay down in the Uncuts.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:This topic is like beating a dead horse. This could go on forever.I think FUNimation really has improved with its BGM in the Ultamate Uncut Special Edition, but still I'd say I like maybe only 5 - 10% of there BGM.

I was actually capable of being able to sit through the redub's music than Bruce's music. o_O; The fact that the music wasn't always loud and inappropriate for certain scenes was nice, especially when they would either use some points of silence and very low pieces of music. Unlike Bruce's, where the music's non-stop and loud as hell. Sometimes even inappropriate.

To add to this thought, today's episode of D.I.C.E. had an amazing scene with silence. When a person got shot, the sound effects, music and people shouting instantly got cut completely in order to emphasize the drama. If a show aimed a younger target market can pull off silence, then DBZ can.desirecampbell wrote:True that. Silence can set a suspenful mood better and faster than any music. The only cartoon to ever scare me was an episode of Samurai Jack, walking around a haunted house with an errie silence (clap, clap, clap of his sandles). Nothing has ever frightened me more than that episode - nothing.Mattias wrote:Silence can never be overrated.

There is some very peaceful music in Faulconer's music. I really think you guys exaggerate the loudness of the dub.

I may be new to these parts, but I'm gonna back up Saiyaman here. Being an American growing up on the dub, I do like the Dub music. No offense to anyone, but whenever a song is inserted, I just find it kinda corny. And about the music blaring, it is soft when needed, like when Gohan is at the Kamehameha stand off with Cell, and Piccolo is watching, and then flies over to help, the music in the dub had a very good tone to it. It didn't ruin the scene at all. Some just sound cool to me cause I love that kind of music.

While the dub was the first thing I saw I'm definitely of two minds about the music.
On one hand I love some of the dub themes such as Rock the Dragon, Bardock special opening, Evil Majin Theme and Super Saiyan 3 Ascension and on the other I love some of the Japanese themes like Head Cha La, Come Out, Incredible ZENKAI Power!, Budokai 2 opening (yes we had the Japanese version in NZ) and the theme for Gohan's SSJ2 transformation.
I first realised the dub music failed in comparison to the original Japanese first when I downloaded a clip of Gohan going SSJ2 long before it happened on TV but when I saw the dub version..it sucked.
The dub version of the transformation lost all the emotion and had Gohan talking over it. But only moments before the dub suprised me with Android 16 landing in front of Gohan and the music cut out completely which was very impactful as many have noted before, the dub is quite noisy
But then the English version has had its good music moments. I kind of thought Goku's SSJ3 transformation was somewhat better than the Japanese version! But most of the time the original version kicks ass!
As for the original ocean dub and the ultimate uncut both of them seem quite bland in comparison.
Oh and don't get me started on the dub GT theme *vomits*

I know what you mean because I too begun with the dub, the Ocean dub, and when ever I saw an episode on TV it's memories coming back to me.Cyberman wrote:I may be new to these parts, but I'm gonna back up Saiyaman here. On the subject of silence, I think it's what makes the Japanese version more unique. The silence is like BGM in a way! It makes you concentrate more and everyone shuts up and watches, sometime's the silence goes on for quite long, but you gotta love the silence.
The Ocean dub has some really quite melodies that play where there is usually no BGM in the original, another reason why I like watching Ocean's dub, I'm on about the later series that we got in the UK, sometimes you have to struggle to notice the music. Funi's music is...well, we all know.
Just to add, even though I don't know what this has to do with anything, my music teacher at school told us how somebody made a record called 'Silence' or something along those lines, I don't know how long the track was but the main fact is the entire CD was silent! That's all, nothing, niente playing from the speaker, and the funny thing is, it sold! I have no information on it apart from my teachers word of mouth but if anyone know about this they can confirm it. Who would purchase such nonsense I don't know.
