I agree. The art style just reminds me of yaoi.

Or maybe there's a difference between effeminate and gay?

Let's absolutely knock off the saying-with-disparaging-tone phrases, and especially the rude responses toward those expressing legitimate complaints about its usage.

Please remember that you are on Kanzenshuu, and not an elementary school playground. I shouldn't have to say that :(.

I used the term "gay" for lack of a better description. Correct me if I'm wrong, not here to offend anybody. (Also, my house is filled with homophobic jamaicans, so it might be subconscious) :problem:

Well, to add something here, the characters seem to have been altered a little bit with feminine composition; more slender, higher cheekbones, more feminine eyes and slender facial structures.
That won't make them to look homosexual by any means (because you don't "look homosexual" simply, and there is a difference between flamboyancy in the homosexual culture, and one could I suppose be a flamboyant heterosexual as well).
I have heard a very few call Michael Jackson post- thriller for "gay", as an example. Mostly people say/said that he had become more feminine in his looks.
And there is another thing. People are too quick to throw out the word "gay" as soon as something is made less manly. Propably for a lack of a deeper vocabulary?

For the art piece itself, apart from Goten and Trunks (of which I initially believed Trunks to be female) they still look manly according to me, but more feminine maybe.
And I guess that it's true that drawing styles such as this one is pretty common in Doujins.

They look manga-gay, where gays are either hirsute beefcakes or willowy androgynes.

Just because a character is drawn in a more feminine style doesn't automatically mean they're 'gay', good lord. I'm beginning to wish I'd just never posted that pic. I feel I'd have been better off not knowing how some people here would react to it and jump to all kinds of conclusions, that I can only hope they don't have in real life as well. Yeesh.

Or not. Ever read Shoujo? Many males there are kinda feminine. And are the love interest too. In a non-gay manga.
So "manga gay" doesn't really apply, since there is no such thing.
In Yaoi manga, I believe that they indeed can switch between te opposites. But that doesn't make it specific for Yaoi at all.

Not meaning to sound insensitive or offensive, but I don't see an issue with people using the term "gay" with a negative connotation, that does not necessarily apply to homosexuality. Words do have multiple connotations, and the word "gay" is by no means an exception. "Gay" was never originally a word tied to homosexuality, so I don't understand why it would be necessarily bad for it to adapt new connotations (albeit "insulting" ones) that in no way imply homosexuality.

The "N-word" came from the Latin word for "black". Is the word "black" offensive? Probably not. Is the "N-word" offensive? To many of those who trace their ancestry back to Africa, yes, it is.

There's also the fact that the word "gay", much like the word "faggot", has a long history of being used as a derogatory term for homosexuals. Because of this long history, it's very easy for homosexuals to take offense to the word.

tl;dr Political Correctness 101

Not just them either. I'm straight and I still have some issue with the word, when used as a derogatory alternate for 'stupid' like it too often is nowadays, because that's pretty much the origin of it's use that way is an offshoot of it being used as a bashing term for homosexuality.

That said though, Zephyr is right of course that it's not the original meaning of the word. It originally meant 'happy', more or less. You can hear it a lot in old Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Anyway...Dragon Ball fan art. Yes. Specifically that 'hole in your Trunks' gag comic heh.

Yes, I understand the historical implications of both words, and the power that they still have. However, I feel that allowing a word to hold power over oneself is unnecessary. These words, despite their history, shouldn't be allowed to maintain this power, and I feel that censoring them as a means to prevent them from harming people emotionally only serves to cripple peoples' emotional strength in the end. That's partly why I absolutely despise political correctness.

But that's the last I'm going to say on this subject, as it's getting off topic.

For a second there I thought that was a Scarz original, thanks to the coloring. Then I took a closer look at that first panel and...well...
