DBZ Character Relationships : Thematic Parallels

Do you see a parallel of any of the character or relationships in other things? Be it another manga, comics, a famous work of writing, or a great film.

For example, I kind of see Goku and Vegeta as having very Jean Valjean and Javert qualities.

Goku is kind and does what he must for the greater good. He does not hold Vegeta's grudings against him. He even spares Vegeta's life and honours him.

All Vegeta has is his selfish pride and it fuels him on his quest to surpass Goku. He also goes on to commit suicide, motivated by his conscience, and he does it resolutely.

Naruto and Sasuke have a bit of a Goku/Vegeta relationship. Sasuke values himself on his bloodline while Naruto knew almost nothing of his background up until he was sixteen, and in all honesty, didn't really seem to care too much about it before then. In all honestly, Naruto and Sasuke are just a Goku/Vegeta knockoff, with more far more emotional depth.

I've always seemed to think of Piccolo and Gohan as a Batman/Robin duo.

I think Goku and Vegeta can be in some ways similar to InuYasha and Sessho-maru. I agree about Jean Valjean and Javert, though.

I think Kame-Sen'nins relationship with Goku is similar to the relationship between Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter, too.

I think Goku and Krillin have a very similar relationship to Luffy and Ussop from One Piece.

Also, Gohan and Piccolo are a lot like Luffy and Shanks.
