Most recent interviews have covered pretty similar ground, but we can always hope for one or two bombshells in the vein of the Super Exciting Guides... I'm bored with hearing about Journey to the West, Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan for the umpteenth time. What new heights (depths) of the man's laziness can we plumb? Has he moved on from Photoshop 3 yet? What does the man who abandoned pen and paper for computers a decade ago make of the trend towards digital distribution and consumption?

The covers to the colored volumes appear to have been revealed (see the moddle-top of the scan, gracefully "stolen" from Nostal/Treevax's facebook fan page; he has some cute scans of the promotional manga as well).

That cover art is very reminscent of the Dragon Box Z Single DVDs. I like it. I'm really happy it's not using recycled cover art, much like the Chozenshuu seem to be doing.

The colors are great.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Wait, so I totally missed the cover art for the full-color comics in a different part of the magazine?

Guess I was overwhelmed by all the news right in the front.

I found them by accident. I was going to get a scanned image from Nostal's page as you had only given us photos when I saw the covers in that scan...

I have all the scans from this chapter, and some choices are really interesting (I guess they had no real choice in the end): when Goku has gone Kaioken and sees Vegeta flying up to avoid the rock explosion, he flies towards him in Kaioken mode. For this specific panel, the camera is set downward, but where we should see rocks in the background, there is actually no landscape at all. So when colorizing it, the team deduced that it would be one of those special, flashy backgrounds and made it all bright yellow.

I guess making a flashy background was the only possibility since there was nothing to color and it couldn't have been the sky given the camera angle of Goku just flying upwards from the ground.
Trying to colorize it in brown because of the fact that it would likely be the ground would have seem weird without an actual ground drawn.
So they chose it would be a flashy background.

Seems like a weird (even if not that big of a) thing to change. I would think that they would still stick with the original colored as close as possible.

Still looks great, though.

It's recycled cover art from the episodes covers, for me it's ridiculous, when they would have worked in some new illustrations for this new and maybe perfect edition

Physical copies are a must. Call me a Luddite, if you will, but I find the concept of digital manga pretty weak.

The coloring looks great; I like that it's consistent with the anime's color scheme. I don't have to worry about hair, skin, and clothing changing color within the same arc anymore. I, for one, would be interested in picking up a few copies if translated into English, or raw for very cheap.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

But it doesn't use the anime colors. Goku's clothes are yellow-orange, scouters are green, etc.

Where is the cover art recycled from? I've not seen these illustrations used in the same way on another release.

It makes the manga look amazing, I hope it comes to the UK/US then I can have another go at trying to read the manga, couldn't do it first time round because of the black and white, bought the vizbigs but they don't have much colour either. This really lets you imagine it.
Next to get; Leged of Saiyan figures and Freeza's force

If anyone sees
Any of the Legend of Saiyan line going cheapish
Or any other Banpresto DBZ figure :)

If anyone has a cooler steelbook dvd that wants to sell it (prefer new but used is fine) when/if the dragon box movies comes out contact me :)

It is not using anime colors and that's what makes it interesting. We will have something much closer to the original author's design (likely: bye-bye blue-haired Bulma, pink-muscles Piccolo, yellow Kinto-Un, red-gi Goku, red-scouter Vegeta, skin-eyed Krilin, etc...).

As for having consistent color within a same arc, we don't know that for now, there's no evidence in this chapter. They did change colors when the author did in their digital edition of the Pilaf arc.
You'll have to wait for two specific things to know for sure:
- see if Bulma's color scheme changes between her visit to Kame House and her witnessing Piccolo take Gohan away with him.
- see if Gohan's color scheme changes when he confronts Vegeta.
