DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
I never even considered stuff like Bulma's hair color. That'd be awesome if it was purple all the way through.

I think Shueisha beamed their plans directly into my brain last year, and I feel good about that. I felt compelled a week ago to buy a year long subscription to Weekly Shonen Jump (Viz Edition), and then we get this announced the week later. I must be psychic!
Now, allow me to scream something:
"FULL COLOR DRAGON BALL Z IN THE US WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP!"
...*coughs* Now that I got that out of my system, I have to ask...is anyone else pumped for this? Viz has their cash cow back, and in their magazine (which is weekly with all series caught up to Japan, and you keep them all on your account). This is a freaking dream come true. Now all I need are Kanzenban-style trades. I'll stick the first volume next to my Saint Seiya: Next Dimension Volume 1, and start my full color manga shelf! *skips to The Monkee's "I'm a Believer"*

This is really unexpected and great news!
After so many things that were published in Japan and Europe bypassing the US, now the US are the first to get their hands on this, a totally new stuff that starts simultaneously to the Japanese release - albeit with one chapter a week instead of a whole pack.
I'm glad that US fans get to have some interesting new manga stuff, the latest update available, no less. It's really the kind of surprise you gotta love!
I have a feeling a lot of US DB fans will suddenly be eager to go and buy their Jump magazine every single week now!

Viz's online presence is garbage. They have multiple websites, and the news is mixed in with manga releases. It's taking some digging to find that image.

What image? The advertisement? If so, it's at the end of this week's Weekly Shonen Jump.B wrote:Viz's online presence is garbage. They have multiple websites, and the news is mixed in with manga releases. It's taking some digging to find that image.

Is anyone else insanely excited? Viz doesn't seem to edit the WSJ online stuff since there's no time, so we'll have uncut art with Japanese sound effects. Anyone excited for Uncut full color DBZ manga?

Yes, I am. I hope it means we get Mr. Satan, instead of Hercule, Middle Fingers, instead of Index Fingers, and perhaps some cursing every now and again.Mewzard wrote: Anyone excited for Uncut full color DBZ manga?

I'm really looking forward to it but I think I will hold off until it gets collected. Hopefully they'll touch up the translation a bit too but I don't expect it.Mewzard wrote:

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
They might, they do translations for all the weekly series in advance, so they might retranslate it. But, you might not want to avoid the weeklies, because I heard even though the WSJ release is uncut due to time constraints, the volumes do end up getting censored on occasion. Not sure if it's true, but I'm just giving a warning. I don't think you can buy backissues, so one has until the week after the next volume to get the first chapter in this form.Makaioshin wrote:I'm really looking forward to it but I think I will hold off until it gets collected. Don't get your hopes too far up when it comes to a re-translation. If they don't just bring over translations, there's still Viz's translation policies. If Zolo is still used, I doubt hercule won't be.

It seems that Kaio and Gohan's first outfit (the one with the 4-Stars on the hat) will have the same colors as in the anime.

The cover images are colored montages of various title pages (202 and 219 for the first one, 217 and 227 for the second one, and 231 for the third).

Yeah, I decided to just get a subscription. I'm not really interested in any of these other comics aside from One Punch Man but I might as well try them now.Mewzard wrote: They might, they do translations for all the weekly series in advance, so they might retranslate it. Anyway I'm a bit disappointed by Kaio's coloring. Hopefully Kuririn will still have his manga eyes...

Yes, there are links on the front page of the site for you to pre-order them. Pretty much all pieces of major information on new products are posted on the news feed.eledoremassis02 wrote:Those are awesome! is there a way I can import them?omegalucas wrote:It seems that Kaio and Gohan's first outfit (the one with the 4-Stars on the hat) will have the same colors as in the anime.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
I hope those aren't just promo shots and it doesn't turn into an animanga. The art in the manga is much better than the anime. As I learned from Kai, don't judge it till the product comes out. Kai looked to be great...until it actually came out and all of the new digital shots looked like garbage and they barely corrected anything, most corrections being color rather than anything drawn. They'd redraw something terrible-looking, looking the exact same way as the old version. So until this is actually released, I'm going to be worrying about it being an animanga. Doesn't look like it will be, but who knows?
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
I don't really think there has been anything to indicate that it is animanga. I figure its pretty obvious it would be colored to match the show, but its still Toriyama's art.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Is it really going to be colored to match the cartoon's colors? That seems...odd. When Shueisha did the Son Gokuh arc in full color, they used Toriyama's color scheme. So, Bulma's hair was only green for first two chapters; after that, it's purple. Same with Gokuh's dogi (blue to orange). So, they would change it as Toriyama changes his mind. Haha.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Not really, Vegeta has his manga colors (green scouter) as does Raditz (white armbands) and Krillin (we saw the whites on his eyes on one of the first scans and we already saw all the dogis are a lighter color than the anime).
As for Kaio, have we ever seen him colored in the manga (except in the Kanzenban covers)? If not, I wouldn't be surprised if they stick to the anime colors for these characters that haven't been colored in the manga.

No, they are using the manga colors.linkdude20002001 wrote:Is it really going to be colored to match the cartoon's colors?
I wonder what colors they'll use for the Super Saiyan aura. White or Golden? In DBSD & DBO (both use manga colors) have the aura colored golden.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
