If however, Namco Bandai made an effort to make an online Dragon Ball game online for 360/PS3 like Zenkai Battle Royale with 6v6 players at least (plus Party Game Chat), this'd be quite fun to play.
Man, I literally just got out of a four year COD addiction. I played MW2 a lot and then when Black Ops came out, the world they created for that game was so awesome I cut so many corners in my personal life just to make more time to play that game. And I played the zombies mode almost as much as online multiplayer. That game definitely robbed me of some prime years of my twenties. I'm glad I got to experience it while it was the current game. But MW3 and Black Ops 2 just weren't able to follow up on the epic game that Black Ops was and they've just broken every aspect of my play style with changes to the game. Plus all of my PS3 friends only want to play the new games so I think genre fatigue finally caught up with me. Sold my PS3 the other day, time to learn some new skills.

I think the opposite is why I'm able to still enjoy Dragon Ball though. I don't spend as much time with it as I did when I was younger so now when I put on a DVD to watch a few episodes, it's more of a cool nostalgic experience.

I don't even think of it. It's just... there. It's so imbedded into my life now.

I don't thinking I ever really grew up. When it comes to enjoying Dragon Ball, I still see it as a 5 year old 17 years ago getting into everything related to the show (although slightly more critical and with more knowledge on how I can enjoy more or it :P )

I've been a fan for 15 years. The American dub(s) is what got me into it, and the games kept me going pretty much through Burst Limit. Dragonball Evolution is what brought me to this site. Seeing as how there are very few sites like it, I stuck around. I don't really talk too much about the series outside of this forum(except a few times with friends) and I don't watch/read it all the time so that helps to keep the series and this site interesting.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Nostalgia, mostly. Remembering the good times I had with the series, helps to keep me involved with it in some capacity. I've been following Dragon Ball for ...around 17 years? that sounds about right, and while my fandom is nowhere near to what it once was, I still find myself thinking anything Dragon Ball related at least once a day
Nowadays, I don't follow anime in general all that much, and I just read a couple of mangas. One Piece is the only series I follow closely, and even then, my One Piece fandom cannot compare to what I once had with Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball is not perfect by any means. Even now, if I watch an episode, I start noticing mistakes, or bad animation, and stuff like that. But when I was a kid, I never noticed any of that. Dragon Ball was perfect and it became quite important to me. So, yes, at the end of the day, what keeps me involved in the series, are the thoughts I had back then, and the love I had for it, which was so strong, that it's still there, in some capacity ;)
Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...

Well, been a fan ever since the series aired in my country fifteen years ago. I took a long hiatus until stumbling upon this website and forum. Ever since I've been keeping my flame burning high. I do pay attention to other things so I'm not tuned 24/7. But mostly, I pay atention to whatever's new like the recent yearly animated features, games, especially if they've got something new, Heroes and Online, Dragon Ball SD, Dragon Ball Abridged, Toyble's Dragon Ball AF. Other from that, my reviews and a few other topics, mainly whatever I find that is alternate to the main series. I always try to find something that feels new to me, even if it is something hidden in an old game.

It's pretty easy for me, Dragon Ball is just that big a part of my life really. I'm not constantly on about it (though I can be - more on that in a moment), and I'm certainly not always watching or reading it, but there's just something magical about the series that keeps it as my #1 favorite anime regardless of how many other 'better' titles I've seen since. I can't explain it, it's just one of those things that is.

A major part of it though, I think is because of how much I 'owe' it in a way. Without DBZ I wouldn't have gotten into anime period, therefore I wouldn't have the friends that I do, therefore I wouldn't be dating the greatest girl in the world since we met because of DBZ - most of the good things in my life can be drawn back essentially to DBZ. Sad, ain't it? :P

The final part of how I keep my fandom for it going though is really just instinctual, tied in kind of with that 'magic' about it. Dragon Ball isn't just a favorite thing for me, it's transcended that to some degree. We all have stuff we like, but then there's the stuff we really like, right? The things that we can always get in the mood to talk about when it randomly pops into our head for any reason, and even if we are nowhere near in the mood to watch/read it again, we can get really into talking about it. I like to refer to those select titles as the 'Pillars' of my fandom - they're always there, steady and strong, whenever I eventually travel back to them. Dragon Ball is one of about five for me (others being Digimon, I"s, Animorphs, and TMNT), with smaller...'statues'...or...something...that I'm almost as obsessive over, but still don't quite make it that high up the obsession list (stuff like Rurouni Kenshin and Harry Potter).

The thing is that there's constantly new or improved things with Dragon Ball, so it's easy to keep the flame on.

Amazingly remastered anime through Kai, amazingly remastered manga through the Kanzenban and soon the fully colored manga, amazingly translated episodes and movies through the Anime Comics, new movies, new songs, new games...
There's always something new or some improvement around the next corner, so you just want to keep moving forward with it given the amazing job and amazing care they constantly show with all those new products! 8)

The Dragon Ball universe has been constantly adding new things or reworking previous elements to give something that's overall more and more appealing, closer and closer to the original author's vision.
Constantly being able to discover things for the first time or rediscover things in a "better than ever before" way, that's the secret, I guess...

It's the DB related hentai that keeps me going... I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

I've been a fan for almost, what? 15 years now? There were times I completely fell out of the series but there was always something that pulled me back. At this point I think it's just pure nostalgia that keeps my love D all things DB alive. But to keep myself from burning out I make sure to have other interest as well, like Batman (and the entirety of the DC universe in general), my love for all things animation, and so on.

The video games, starting with Budokai 1 in North America, came out every year. There was always that to look forward to.

AMV's were also a big reason why my passion for the show never died. Well made videos would remind me of how great the series was. It made me want to make my own AMV's.

Discovering for the first time that there was an original Japanese version of the show. I basically watched a whole new show. The American dub now serves as nostolgic, whereas the original Japanese version is the show I have a passion for.

This site, of course, was the biggest thing to keep my interest in the show alive after all these years. Having a place where the series is constantly being discussed everyday is great. My passion for the show would not be as strong as it is today without it. My wallet would also not be as empty as it is if it weren't for this site...I hate you guys!

I remember watching it since I was about 3 years old (1998), back on the days Dragon Ball was on TV in Greece (it was on the Piccolo Daimao arc). It was my favorite cartoon back then, and if I were to miss an episode, I would record it to watch it on VHS. And then, in 2003 I think, Dragon Ball Z was over. After that, DeAgostini Hellas started releasing the whole DBZ series on VHS weekly (I only bought one or two of them though), and a Dragon Ball chess. I bought the whole thing, but I've threw it away now... Then I bought a GameBoy Advance, and bought Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors in 2005, and it was the only thing that was keeping Dragon Ball alive in my mind. I was playing it for year whenever I was getting bored (it's a great game). In 2007, DeAgostini Hellas started a weekly release of DBZ again, in DVD this time. I bought the first ones, but then stopped because they were too expensive. Then, DeAgostini Hellas started a weakly release of Dragon Ball GT, in 2008. I was shocked, because I had no idea that Dragon Ball Z had a sequel. So, I bought the first 4 episodes, and it had an image of Super Saiyan 4! I was like "WOW!!!". It made me wanting to learn more about Dragon Ball, so I managed to discover the Dragon Ball Wikia, Daizenshuu EX, and Kanzentai. I read the manga, and then I watched GT (FUNi dub), along with some movies. I started playing Shin Budokai 2 on PSP in the Christmas of 2008, and in summer of 2009, I watched the complete anime series (DB-DBGT), all the movies, and whatever was out of DBKai. I started following the news about DBO in 2009, and I got Tenkaichi 3 in summer of 2010. And then, the next summer, I watched every Dragon Ball anime material in order, in Japanese with English subs. After finishing it, I came in this great forum.

That was the long story of what kept the flame alive the previous years. Now, it's mostly this forum that keeps the flame alive for me, and all the new stuff that keep coming out of course (DBZ video games, DBO & DBH updates, DBSD, new manga & anime specials).
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

DBZ was my main obsession as a teenage during the 2000's. Unlike Digimon or Transformers, I never went back and feel nostalgia for it since I was still watching and reading the show as a teenager. I can't feel nostalgic for DBZ since I seen it so many time growing up as a young teen.

I've only been a fan for about 14 years. I got into in when I was in the fourth grade, during DBZ first run on Toonami in late 1998. Though, you could say I've known of the series for 17 years, with Funimation's first airing of DB in December(?) 1995.

Now, how do I keep that flame still burning strong after all these years? It's simple. I just don't overdo it. I love the series, but I do get tired of it occasionally, and don't bother checking the site for a while. And then I find myself bored and in a DB mood, so I check good 'ol Kanzenshuu to see what's been up. I never really disappear. I will live here. Forever. Or at least as long as news that I find interesting continues to flow. :)

Well, I'm not quite at 20 years years yet, but BOG, this site, the podcast and the fact that I haven't seen the whole series is what keeps me ticking. I think Dragon Ball fans are very lucky in the sense that there's something new for them to devour every year, despite the fact that the series is essentially over; whether it's new animation or old guide book stuff that Herms dug up.

My flame died around the time I went off to college (2003-ish), so I don't know from experience how to keep it alive long-term. BUT, around September of last year my interest suddenly returned...rather...intensely. It feels different this time. I have a sense that it will be like Star Wars, where I don't have to try to keep it alive, it is just always with me.

However, if you want to try to actively control it and you're good with routine and moderation, you could try something I've been wanting to start for a long time: make your own Saturday morning lineup!

From what I've seen, Saturday mornings aren't so interesting anymore (I'm comparing it to the '90s). If you feel the same, you can grab a bowl of cereal and maybe some friends and set aside two or three hours to watch the cartoons you love, chronologically, until you cycle through the whole show. For me, this would consist of some combination of Dragon Ball, '80s TMNT, Transformers (U.S. and Japanese), and some new wild card series to keep things fresh. This way, you watch the show so slowly it's hard to burn out on it, you'll really look forward to your cartoon day, and you'll have YEARS worth of DB before you even cycle back to the beginning!

Of course, it doesn't have to be Saturday. If, like me, you have to work then, or you do like Saturday mornings, you can just fit it to your schedule.
