Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Super-quick but hopefully better than Google translation of Toriyama's comment:

Apparently it's been 17 years since the last Dragon Ball animated movie! For all the animation up to now, I've basically jut left everything up [to the staff], so this is my first try at being involved from the story's creation. The key words this time, "God of Destruction Bilus" and "Super Saiyan God", were suggestions from the scriptwriter, but they were good ideas for portraying a pinch for the main characters, who had grown so strong that there was nothing higher. After first deciding on Bilus' character design and background, I tried thinking up an original story imaginig if serialization had continued. What's more, the God of Destruction Bilus, who this time I designed with rare freedom, is a terrifyingly strong opponent so overwhelmingly strong that he surpasses the dimension of previous opponent. But it's my trademark to not let things get too dark. At the very least I'm satisfied to put together an entertaining work.

By the way, the battle scenes in the second half are particularly overwhelming! It came out so much better than I imagined that I was moved. Just as you'd expect, Japan's animation is superb! Everyone on the staff, you really did a great job!! Well, please enjoy the first Dragon Ball in a long time!

Wow. That was great. I particularly like the part where he said he approached it as though serialization had continued. That makes it truly like a continuation of the manga!!!

Yeah, it's great to see that Toriyama actually put some back-bone into the story. Although I still get the feeling he forgot about Ultimate Gohan. Ah well, hopefully Watanabe tosses out a line in the movie about that.

Thanks a bunch Herms I'm glad Toriyama approved of the god form, hell even the best writers need help sometimes and can find other people's views good and use them.

There's such huge emphasis on how Bilus is on a whole nother level compared to the past foes. Heck, even the poster's tagline is, "Freeza, Cell, Majin Boo - Little Did They Know, There Was Someone Who Surpassed Them All." Toriyama makes note of how he had so much freedom to make him insanely strong.

"Common Sense of Z" = "Everything you ever thought you knew about Dragon Ball in regards to strength and power."

By the by, Herms, if we were to assume that this movie will get a manga adaption ala the Bardock OVA and the 2008 OVA, would you add it to the Strength Checker? This movie has been stated to be an actual story in the manga canon. That is, it happened in Toriyama's original work. So ...

Excuse me? who are you to say this post is dumb? If this form is stronger than SSJ4 and Goku never uses it in GT it will effetively make it non canon IMO. For the most part. We could just assume this series is in a seperate universe with a multiverse theory I guess.

You know, it's funny, I really tried to tone back the references, because I figured it was just a coincidence, that Goku's at the level where only Gods pose a threat...but Super Saiyan God? While awesome...*veins buldging in forehead* It makes me half to make the reference.

So Goku has to get a "god" form to fight a god?



I seem to recall another 1980s Jump manga with an anime adaptation from Toei that proved popular internationally following that path (though, the manga did it about 16 years before Toei did an anime adaptation of it).

On the plus side, Toei can now totally do a crossover that will make South America and France explode with fangasms. *and that's now out of my system...*

Off the reference train, does anyone else find it hilarious that this is revealed around a month or so after the Death Battle? Anyone else want a rematch after the movie comes out? lol. Of course, Supes would probably still win (unless the form is just an insane multiplier), but it would make for a more awesome match.

As for the trailer itself, Piccolo singing was awesome, as was Goku in a track suit. And the idea of Goku fighting a God of Destruction in a new form? I love it. It's going to be an epic fight. This is almost my dream movie. Just needs Yamucha doing something besides pissing himself in a corner (like fight), and I will be sated, lol.

This thread is about the upcoming Dragon Ball movie. If somebody wants to post dumb shit (which has nothing to do with the movie by the way), then they can at least make an effort to create a thread of said dumb shit.

I was simply stating my opinion on this new form and how it would affect the continuity of GT IMO. There is no need to get your panties in a bunch because I mention GT in a thread about an upcoming movie. If you are going to criticize my post for being off topic, try to refrain from childish remarks such as this is dumb shit =/.
