Judging from Toriyama's comments I definetly consider it canon. I put canon more with anything Toriyama approves of and has quite a big part in, I know he was told of SSJG and Birusu, but everybody gets Ideas from somewhere and can use help when struggling to think of something. He clearly thought it was a good Idea too. "After first deciding on Birusu’s character design and background, I tried thinking up an original story, imagining it as though [the manga's] serialization had continued" this part was what had me sold

Just read the interview with, Masako Nozawa, Shōko Nakagawa, and Kaori Matsumoto. It's really nice to see how much they love DB, obviously Nozawa is a given, but hearing the stories of Nakagawa, and Matsumoto on why they love Dragon Ball is really nice to read.

Staff of kanzenshuu really does superb stuff with translations, which I need to thank them so much for!
Only downfall is, that the interview with these minor actors is not much interesting for western audience. Also, I heard this stuff thousand times: ''Dragon Ball is awesome since my childhood, my dream came true, everything is so much awesome and fluffy'' and no relevant spoiler.

Guys, I actually had this idea and will be damn happy to see that! Flashback with Bills, who is approving of Planet Vegeta destruction by Freeza and Vegeta spots Uisu, as he is scounting the planet or something like that.

Well, with SSJ God, as I have fond memories of SSJ from childhood onward, this movie will be awesome little upgrade to the original story, ot it will ruin my childhood.
But really, I think that SSJ3 should've been limit, this AF mannerisms of onward SSJ forms is not to my liking. I hope that SSJG will be at least decent and not breaking the common sense of Z.

Eighty-five minutes has a good heft to it. I think it gives them a nice amount of time to play with.

This thread's one of the first of my internet check-in places too. I'm so anxious to find out both the answers to my remaining questions and to see what Goku's new transformation looks like. I've got so many ideas for what it'll be. X3

The other one is "Is there more to Uisu's role in this film than meets the eye?". Like does he have an ulterior motive that Birusu may not know about.

I think most of my other ones have been answered very recently though (the soundtrack, Pilaf Gang, the 8th figure, for example).

Going by the soundtrack it's hard to tell. I really don't know what to make of him yet.

I would've thought Vegeta won the bingo, he looks like he's happy in an over the top way, or he's about to win, rubs his hands together, starts laughing, and then Birusu appears on earth and everybody stops the game. That explains "Vegeta enraged" on the tracklist.

The tracklist starting from, "Shenlong Comes Out" "The Legendary God" "Chosen Warriors" and "One More Saiyan" makes me think that they might ask Shenlong on how to defeat Birusu, and he tells them Goku will have to become the SSJG (The legendary god), the Saiyans then have to give Goku their energy (Chosen warriors), and then Goku goes to fight Birusu as he's about to destroy the Galaxy (line from the first trailer) because he thinks theirs nobody left to challenge him (Another Saiyan). I really hope that doesn't happen though.

It's been a long time since imdb lists 121 min, but they have no source. 109mens will be screening the film, and will held an event with Masako Nozawa and FLOW for this, they're more reliable.

Well, they're not directly screening the film; they're just running a promotion in conjunction with it. But yes, given that they have an itinerary for the event with a stated approximate runtime, that's much more legitimate than the length IMDB has listed since before much of the animation and audio production was underway, let alone completed.

Not if you define "canon" as "only things the original author himself wrote during its original publication".

As I recall, there was a public statement that this is canon material, I think that's all that needs to be said on that subject.

Also, why the hell isn't funimation all over this, don't even tell me we're not getting a US release in theaters soon after the JP release

I disagree, and quite vehemently so . It's perfectly acceptable to think that only something the original author wrote himself during the original run of the series is part of a certain "canon". No particular fan has to suddenly up and agree that stuff written twenty years later can and should be accepted back into the original story as if it were always there, always intended to be there, and fits with the same tone, style, and aesthetic.

And on that note, to what extent does the original author's involvement have to be in order for it to be "canon"...? Toriyama may have designed some characters and helped with the story, but he certainly did not write the entire script (that was Yusuke Watanabe), nor drew every frame of the movie (something supervised by Tadayoshi Yamamuro). What if I only want something the author himself had full and complete control over? What if I don't care what the larger rights-holders have to say in their little marketing schpiels about what is or is not part of an "official history"...?

Thing is, I'm mostly just arguing it for the sake of arguing it -- I don't actually care one way or the other even the slightest bit. I don't care what you think is canon, what other fans think is canon, and so on and so forth. None of that matters to me. From my perspective, it's all just stories for the sake of telling stories, and if they happen to line up, well isn't that just neat!
