What type of games do we and the majority of the world know Spike for?

Dragon Ball Z games are their most successful, but niche western gamers will probably know them from Fire Pro Wrestling, Zero Escape/999, and maybe Conception: Please Have My Baby if you're of particular interests. They also help out with Acquire on Shinobido, and Way of the Samurai games.

Exactly. So if I see their name on a list developers making games that will be on a new system, it's not wrong for me to assume they're making a game from their most successful franchise, especially since that's what they've been making lately. You can make that argument for Dimps as well, but their last home console DBZ game was back in '08, so them making one for the PS4 isn't quite as likely. On top of the fact that they've been more focused on Sonic.

The thing is, Spike Chunsoft does not own the Dragon Ball Z video game license. They're a contracted developer on those projects.

Spike has made Heroes VS on the PSP. Just because Spike is making a video game that does not mean it won't be a Dragon Ball game. I don't like it when people assume that it's something Dragon Ball related if it's being made by Spike or publish by Namco Bandai.

The gameplay of Heroes VS for PSP seems very familiar to DBZ's Tenkaichi one, with some differences but it's more or less the same. Camera on the video below isn't broken, at least what appears, so that's a positive note.

It's just like Omega Force, One Piece Pirate Warriors is pretty much as Dynasty Warriors, which is disappointing and boring, imo. Japanese devs usually are very respected for making excellent games but this is just like Activision's Call of Duty.

Okay, let's get back on topic.

I don't think the devs (whoever the hell they may be this time  ) will take as long as they did to make DB games for next gen as they did this gen. I say this because all 3 (yes, even the Wii U) consoles will be easier to develop for and cost of development might not go up as much because of this.

Really? In my head it is that the stronger console is, the longer it will take to release games on it. I mean we already have games people waited 2-4 years for on current consoles, i can't imagine what will be with the next gen.

I wouldn't mind an Ultimate Tenkaichi 2 but this time without the Defence/Attack options or randomness, just let the players fight themselves without locking them down to suffer if they don't have any ki.

It really depends on the architecture more than sheer power.

They could just have players start battles at full ki by default.

Personally I think they should worry about making a new game worth playing for consoles before worrying about the ps4. I didn't see one game for the 360/ps3 that was better than what released for the ps2.

The game play was a little more choppy in Raging blasts compared to Tenkaichi.

Burst limit would have almost worked if it didn't pale in comparison to the Budokai's character selection, ultimate moves, etc.

You can see the slow decline in effort of the games, since people still buy them, why put the effort in making the game great? Raging blast's only benefit was more space to see above you by having the health bar a small circle. Ultimate Tenkaichi had custom characters? Why even bother though if the game itself was sort of a flop.

Long story short the graphics can be as beautiful as they want with newer consoles but if the gameplay keeps getting worse than there wont be a point besides just cut scenes..not even.

The problem also with Dragon Ball games is that they tend to get deserted on the online section which is very important for games such as fighting and whatnot, which makes its lifespan last longer.

It's possible to find gamers on RB2/UT but not tons of them on a list, more so, need to create a match and wait for one to show up (usually someone turns up pretty quickly).

After doing some re-researching of this topic, I found a quote from Tony Shoupinou himself:

http://dragonball.namco.com/forum/showt ... st-db-game....

"By the way, who said it was the last game of Spike? I remember we had discussed the possibility of change development team but it has never been confirmed ... "

So basically they've talked about changing dev teams, but it was never confirmed Spike is officially done with dbz games. So Spike may still be working on dbz games. But the franchise does kinda need a breathe of fresh air. I feel Spike has run it's course and ran out of innovative ideas. Ultimate Blast was dreadful. RB2 was decent. It be nice to see a new dev take on the dragonball series but who knows. Anything could happen at this point.

Wasn't that common knowledge? No one ever said that they were moving on to another developer. It's just that Spike's contract was set to run out after Ultimate Crapfest, and they said they would allow their game resources (models, etc.) to be used by another development team if the choice was made not to renew it, but it's not like anyone at Namdai ever said they were looking to switch developers.

@TheDevil'sCorpse and @GogetaSSJ2

Ah! I remember now but, being that that statement was made 2 years ago and all the DB related stuff that has transpired since then (Good&Bad) I guess I just forgot lol.

But yeah my only fear about a new developer is that they'll end up rebooting the roster AGAIN for the sake of saving GT,Movies and Pre-Z for future games. So the game will probably go from Raditz to Cell or Raditz to Boo but I guess if the game is really really good then it won't matter.

However I don't expect a new dev just yet, I think Namco Bandai is either going to give Spike one last chance this year or let them ride out the rest of this Gen's console life span meaning we won't see a fresh DBZ game until around 2015.

Obviously they're bringing the Zero Escape series to the PS4. Visual novels in glorious 4K.

With the impending release of Battle of Gods and promotional opportunities therein, I see the premise of Spike developing a new game to be really not that difficult to believe at all.
I was Thanos before the MCU existed!
